  • I wrote to A&L about the £250 Switcher Admin fee they charged me when I changed from one of their mortage products when the discount period ended to another A&L mortgage. I also paid a product fee for switching!
They have responded that as I did not redeem my original mortgage it does not fall within the FSA definition of Mortage Exit fees.
Does anyone ha ve any advice or experience of a similar nature?

    Thanks, Bryan

I called my bank today, and was told straight away that I was due £100 back, bit annoyed as I queried this at the time, April 05, as I knew my mortage offer stated a lower amount than £275, but was told by letter that I was incorrect & that I had to pay £275 not 175, when it was due even my solicitor held back paying the higher amount!!! Also thought I'd give Halifax a go form 2004, and got £25 back from them as well, so thank you to this site!

  • Hi, just wanted to let everyone know that I tried writing to two Building Societies as I move my mortgage around as much as I can to save money. Norwich & Peterborough said they hadn't overcharged me but Cheltenham & Gloucester sent me a letter today saying they owe me £145.55 (which includes £10.55 interest). Good eh!
    Thanks Martin.
I'm on a mission now - I'm going to help my brother reclaim his bank charges:j
  • i read on here about meaf, so i thought i would give it a go, rang the halifax on the telephone number on this site on friday and guess what they are sending me £100,00

Thank you very much Martin for your great website, ;) :money: :T :) :A :j :cool2:

Initial rejection from Northern Rock with tehm claiming the discharge fees on deals taken out mid 1999 were £160 which goes against the table in Martins article. Thinking of getting them to send through proof of original agreement, I only have the redemption statement detaisl from 2002 sadly

Success with Northern Rock paying £35 back from a mortgage I took out in 1998.

Sent a letter to C & G from my mother for a mortgage she took out 2 years ago and they have written back refusing, although the meaf charged was more than the original contract. My mother dosn't want to try anything else but it's annoyed me! What can I do now?!:D
  • When I redeemed my mortgage in 2004, my redemption statement confirms I paid £225 as a sealing discharge fee, even though I was told when I took out the mortgage in 2001 that the fee was £75.

I rung the RBS today and gave them my account number and said I understood I was due a refund as I'd been overcharged. she took my phone number and said she'd call back (....yeah right....all ready to ring back each day). About 4 hours later, I picked up the phone and was told I was entitled to £150 and would I like a cheque or paid straight into the account my mortgage used to come out of? I will get it within 10 working days! A result!!! I’m amazed. Definitely worth checking.
    :T :D
  • Following the template letter to northern rock ref mortage exit fee. Had letter stating the amount charged was 160.00 but we end up paying 225.00
so they will send cheque for 65.00.
But I have read its only 50.00 to exit a mortgage so should I send 2nd letter asking for a breakdown.
