Muchin's diary of recover; becoming debt free and being happy

Hi all
Well it has taken us a few days to come to terms with OHs redundancy - to be honest I really don't think it has sunk in entirely. However he has a stay of execution until at least May 2016 and he is positive that he will get another job but the big question is what???
I work for the civil service and yesterday the government announced that they are considering a voluntary redundancy scheme_pale_. It just reinforces what a bad state the economy is still in. However there are so many people I know in work who would grab redundancy with both hands that I'm still confident I should be ok. It has reinforced to me how good MSE is because I've cleared my debts and I have almost £2000 sitting in savings but I need to start putting aside a set sum in case the S*it hits the fan in the future.
Eating/health front - Oh dear my work trousers were cutting me in two all week - it was painful. I'm still continuing with structured eating but I'm going to have to make it a bit healthier. I managed a 2 mile run yesterday but my knee flared up so I started back on the physio exercises again (I know I should never have stopped them:o). I'm also just going to do short runs and enjoy them and if my knee settles then I will go that bit further.
Money front - I didn't spend much this week but I have £41 left to next Friday as I'm away next weekend and will use holiday money.
I borrowed a smiley from Upside down bear as it made me smile and I just want to keep it here to use in future & because there has been a nip in the air this week.
Have a lovely day everyone.0 -
Evening all,
I got more bad news on work front - it could be a long time before/if I get promoted. Even though I'm listed for promotion my Dept is broke and promotions have stopped. Its so frustrating because friends in other Depts who were promoted at the same time as me have jobs - very annoying but at least I'm not facing redundancy like my OH. I think I'm going to email my personnel and ask them what the situation is because it just seems we are being told nothing.
I also got a text from RBS to say that they had a result on my PPI claim and they would be writing to me within 10 days. I keep looking at the text to see if it looks at all positive which is a bit mad but hey I'm having one of those days.
However as I tend towards optimism I have my health and my eating seems to be back under control. I'm going away this weekend with lots of friends and will have a ball. I was looking at the hotel and it looks lovely and it has a 3 course meal for 20 euros which is great when you are eating in a large group:). We always go out for a big dinner on one night with everyone and it can be quite dear so I'm pushing for the buffet.
I'm going to have a super early night and I will feel so much better in the morning.0 -
Evening all:),
I'm just back from a short break and it was lovely. I had booked it ages ago with my running group and had plenty of time to save up for it. OH decided to come with us (he was booked but kept dithering) and I think it was the best thing for him. It was so hot but I'm not complaining as it was a bit of a shock getting of the plane this evening.
I will update tomorrow as its time to get back on the NSD bandwagon.0 -
Good to hear your positivity shining through Munchin. You've a lot on your plate, but are facing it all with optimisim. What a fine example
USDB's smilies are the best aren't they?
How's that little niece of yours doing? Bet she's growing apace

Hi Greying - thank you
, I want to copy all of USDBs smilies as they are brilliant. My sister sends me mini clips of my niece and she is getting soo big and is gorgeous - proud Aunty:).
So I have had wonderful news this morning on the money front - I got a PPI payout of £1080:D:j. I had a letter a while ago to say that they thought I had been missold PPI and I thought well I'll fill in the form and see what happens. I got a text last week to say that they were sending me a letter with their findings. Obviously I was away and this morning I lifted the mountain of post and there was the result. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get this much:D. Of course it has a home to go to already - £600 to my credit card this month (concert tickets, flights to see sister at Xmas etc) and £400 to kitchen payment and £80 to me:)). I had already planned to pay £600 to my kitchen payment in Nov so now I'm paying £1000 with only £300 left to pay in December. I'm keeping £80 for me and it will be spent on treats.
I'm away to balance the budget:D0 -
Excellent news!!0

Cheers Moomin - my hands were shaking when I read the letter but still on cloud 9:).
OK I've looked at the payout and if I juggle the budget and be really money conscious this month then I can actually pay off my kitchen in Nov:) - so that is the plan.
I have just over £100 in cash which is unusual but I arranged taxi/bus on holiday and people gave me cash and I paid it on my card. I need to make this money stretch for as long as possible. I'm popping to post office today to post a package for OH and plan on getting a few groceries but after that I'm hoping I don't have any big spends waiting for me.

Morning all
Last night I went to bed with a hot water bottle as I was so cold.
I spent a few pennies yesterday and have a few more to spend today. I popped to post office to post a parcel for OH and picked up a sympathy card for a colleague. I also returned the PPI letter to say that yes I was [STRIKE]estatically[/STRIKE] quite happy with their calculations.:). Again a big thanks to this site because I've had both a PPI and a CPP payment this year.
I'm going to the shops today as I've been invited to my nieces birthday party in 2 weeks so I need to find something pink and girly. I will update my spends after that.0 -

Pinkpoppies - thanks for popping by:), I wandered over to your thread and you are doing so well.
I was just looking back at my diary and decided it was time to go back to basics so I have been planning my Nov budget. I've also popped over to the NSD and apologized for my absence:o.
I know that I've been debt free for a wee while but it is so easy to fall back into old ways so I'm sticking with this thread:).
