When I worked in the CS every year there would be a stream of Mums asking for old caps cos the kids were doing the Victorian era. the thing is the chappies who wear flat caps wear them till they fall apart. I did stash some whenever I got them and the Mums were very grateful, however I wondered why the schools didnt ask the Mums for them, as I am sure they would never be used again, and bring them out the next year?

Got my roasting bags and have a chicken on the SC at the moment, as far as I can see its probably cheaper to use them then wasting hot water and washing up liquid to scrub out the SC. Am going to do some casserole bases in them next. The bags were 8 for £1. 29 at Mr A and fit a large chook in.

DS is home early again, the whole Natw**t fiasco has meant his company cannot do any work - they chase debts for the banks - and they found out about the !!!! up a day before the rest of us! He is officially bored and the company want them to have time off unpaid so he refused and kept going in and doing what he could.

Our local market ( next to Mr T) seems to be thriving, I just got all my fruit and veg much cheaper than supermarket and a pound of cooked turkey breast for £1, its really nice too. The stall holders are all working really hard to pick up bargains to pass on to us and 'touch wood ' its working.

Hi Fuddle, just unlurking to say if you have the items in white or a very light colour you can dye them yellow with tumeric. It's really easy and cheap :-)

    http://www.kew.org/plant-cultures/activities/handson_turmericdye.html

Oh drat and bother. I have bought 1 metre of yellow fabric for £4.99 inc postage and packing. I have loads of tumeric because DH uses it for fishing (don't ask :rotfl: ) Never mind. Still cheaper than buying new and I don't know where I would get yellow leggings from.

There was a free MOT prize at the school raffle. It went last. The wine/smellies/chocolates prizes were favourite. I suppose they are treats and nice but that free MOT would save £30. I can't really fathom it.

Can you send vibes to boiler engineer that he does get here today as went to wash some cups around 2pm and water stone cold, checked boiler and its dead, no lights or noise, even pressure is on zero yet gas is working fine - hob works and electric switch on wall for boilet has the light on and yet cannot get it to come on so called engineer and was told they should get to me today if not it will be Monday. I have not idea what could be wrong as this is the first time its given me any problems since it was put in 3 years ago.

Not bad...I paid £1.13 for ten at Wilkinsons...

You'll have to tell me how the casserole idea goes using bags...

Rainbow Trout tonight for me...don't think I will be able to do that too often but whilst I can...suppose I'll do potatoes and vegetables with it. Not sure what to have afterwards, perhaps fruit, fruit and custard, we'll see...I may have cheese and biscuits...got some Anchor butter yesterday reduced to £1(date ok until August)I purchased three.

I have just eaten butter in the last few days with a date of March and it was perfectly ok...

good luck with the engineer pah. Are you in rented? Hope it doesn't cost you. Look on the bright side, it's happened in the summer (it feels like a swear word at the moment doesn't it?!) and so it will be perfectly fine for you come the winter months.

What were we saying earlier about life getting in the way? Prolems being piled on top of another, Just when you hope for a little bit of peace and quiet and no surprise bills, something goes wrong. I hope PAH's boiler is sorted out.

Serious stuff like the loss of Mum in my case. Or I got a good deal on my internet and telephone calls/line rental...then my PC needed a new hard drive and burner(approx £100)so what I saved on the deal was paid out on the repairs to the PC:mad:

Then again what I saved on the deal in a way paid for the repairs but I can imagine a time when I would not have any spare cash and would have to save for ages... And only a few weeks earlier the pc had to be wiped and the operating system re-installed. More money...

    Hello everyone

Just dropping in to say "hello" and send (((hugs))) to all in need - I have some major catching up to do with this thread, so apologies if I've missed anything drastic.

All's well here, but life has suddenly become even more hectic than usual, so I've not been able to get online as much as usual.

My oven has finally gone "bang" which hasn't come as anything of a surprise at all. We are actually booked to have a (not very OS :o) new kitchen installed in about a month's time so there's no point gettng it fixed; I'll just have to be very inventive with the slow cooker/microwave/hob (which still works) for a few weeks.

I am actually very nervous about having spent such a lot of money :o. I am not at all used to having new stuff, but we were offered an 80% discount on the cupboards and appliances. At the time when we ordered it DH still seemed to have a secure job (hah!) and I had just received a legacy from my lovely grandma which is covering the cost. I feel terribly guilty about spending it on something so selfish as a kitchen, even though ours is well over 20 years old and falling apart. It's also hideous, but I'd be prepared to live with that if the cupboards didn't keep collapsing in on themselves and the drawer fronts didn't keep coming off in my hands!

Right, I'm off to make a cuppa and catch up with the posts.

    Evie xx

Just about caught up now. (((Huge hugs))) to you PAH - I haven't read your diary yet but you are obviously going through a tough time at home :(

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed with schools issuing demands for random things at short notice! My DD's school seem to want money for this, that and the other nearly every week, and then they ask them to come in silly hats/costumes/specific colours (never what you have in the wardrobe). It's like they have no appreciation or understanding of the work/cost involved at all!
