It does and with an odd exception where a few have been lucky, the torch relay has for many been a disappointment. The free gifts that never materialised I discovered today were miniture coke a cola bottles and when I say mini, I really do mean small about the size of your palm if that!"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Evening all.
I wouldn't have given that scrounging mare a penny. A few years ago, a pal and I were leaving another mate's home about 11 ish. We were not-quite in the city centre but on one of the main drags in and out of it. We stopped because we saw another woman, drunk-as-a-skunk and falling all over the place, spraddled out on the pavement.
Pal was concerned, as was I, as it was quite late and she was alone and completely smashed. Pal stopped her car and went out to see if she needed help. She was hit on for £2 "for cab fare", which she handed over, although it was nowhere near enough to get you anywhere and there were no ranks about that neighbourhood. We drove about another half mile into the centre and were passing the cop shop and saw her falling all around on the pavement outside. Couldn't work out how she'd got there ahead of us.
I nipped in for a quick word with the polis. The weary woman sargeant told me that the police had already driven her home once that evening, drunk and incapable, and she'd come back out again. She'd got to the cop shop by flagging down a good samaritan, a feller who got accused of sexual assault for his trouble. That was how she'd got there ahead of us. The policewoman said they'd take her home one more time but if she kept making a public nuisance of herself, they'd have to put her in the cells overnight and this wasn't really what they wanted to do. So, pal was down £2 and we wasted several minutes of our time...............
I think these people who ask for small amounts of cash are propbably hitting on a lot of people. Don't let them guilt you into giving them money.
SG found out that one of her neighbours didn't have enough money to put electricity on his meter and offered to help him. He was very reluctant and she eventually established that he needed just over £1 to add to what he had to buy £5 of power. She virtually had to strong-arm him into taking it and he was on her step a couple of days later once his benefit had come through, insisting that she take it back again, even though she didn't want to. It's a tough world on those pre-payment meters.
Well, got a few things to poke around on the interweb with, and some bits of personal admin to do, so will wander off now.
Take care those in the way of the bad weather to come. Love and peas, GQ x.
PS, no news from the folks so assume all OK. You realise that you've reached adulthood when you withhold certain info from your parents so as not to worry them. You realise you're middle-aged when you're fretting what they're up to when out of your sight..............:rotfl:Thank goodness they don't drink, that's all I can say.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Torch gets to us next week - I'm not going to go, because I'm performing in the Opening Ceremony and will get to see it lighting the cauldron - hurrah :j
After three bereavements, my fifth redundancy and the news that my landlady is selling my flat happening already this year, the rehearsals and the new friends I've made have saved me from going mad. It's taking everything I have to scrape the money together to get there, but I was determined not to let the opportunity go. Which is also having a positive effect on my cluttering and shopping problems
I will try and be a more regular visitor - forgot how much you guys cheer me up!0 -

Good reason to attend and the event you are involved with should be better than the relay."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Good point...plenty of windows and doors and there is a carbon
Monoxide detector in the house Whatever is cooked will be quick not for a long time and only in an emergency so may never be used..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
