Happy birthday Byatt! Have some virtual ginger cake freshly made by DS2 & I this morning.
Well done littlecal & son! Ask for cuttings from friends & family & the garden will grow quickly.
Have 3 loads of washing on the line, it's sunny right now but we've had showers... Of to work meeting, but I told the boys to leave the washing - it will get drier on the line than the horse. I want to work on DS2's curtains as winter prep so they're on the line. He's got 2 pairs but only needs 1, so I'd hung them together but want to do something that doesn't come apart so easily.0 -
Happy Birthday Byatt  and congratulations to Littlecal on getting a house and on your son's achievements, well done to you both.
It's amazing what you can grow in just a small garden - think vertical!
GQ: I have heard that slicing cucumber and putting it into an old metal baking tin will deter slugs and snails. It appears the cucumber reacts with the aluminium and produces a smell that slugs hate.
Or maybe they just gorge on the cucumber and leave the crops alone!:oNormal people worry me.0 -
hi everyone:) Rain rain rain and yet more rain. We are very fortunate not to have had any flooding where we are, but feel for all of you who have had it:( It is really awful this weather. I am wondering does anyone know how Gailey and Nuala are keeping? Have a good weekend everyonexxDo a little kindness every day.;)0

Some news. Pink-winged the board guide has said a new thread isn't a problem. Don't worry, all that will happen is she will set up a new one and do it properly, with links to all the old threads - there's loads going way back. I couldn't find them all so didn't get to do it properly when I started this one. She'll lock this one sometime this afternoon but all we do it jump on our new thread.
I think this thread (correct me if i'm wrong) has survived without being ticked off, locked or removed and that is testament to all of us who use it. A lovely bunch of people huh? Here's hoping some lurkers will come join us on the new one and we get to extend our family. I do love it on the tougher threads.
Don't worry everyone, it will be exactly the same, we just post under a new title. PAH I told pink-winges about your idea for the make do and mend title, so everone look for a new title that says something like "as it gets tougher we make do and mend" later on this afternoon. I hope you're all ok about it.
Popperwell, we're all about politics really aren't we. Don't worry about posting stuff about it. I was just being a flake the other day.
Hope that I find the new thread Frugal,;)
I didn't use to be political and I'd love not to be so as much in the future but it's cirumstances that have made me so because I'll probably need to use the services more assuming I live a reasonable amount of time in the future.
Especially, if(and I dread this thought)having seen Mum have care from the State for the last six months of her life.
If I had a loved one looking after me as I did Mum that I could happily accept but I hated dealing with the District Nurse we had, the Social Worker was no better and the Nursing Home really would make me want to give up.
The Nursing Home was said to be the best on the town and had a good report from the Government Department that assesses such places.
I know that you cannot judge the whole system by the few I have been in contact but it does colour your views.
Sadly being alone I probably will find I need to deal with
all of the above at some point...I hope not!
Unfortnately, being alone with no family(this is so morbid)I will find my final days spent in hospital or a home surrounded by strangers:(
I can't change things(both my parents passed away not in their home)I hope I go peacefully in my sleep...Don't we all.
Oh this so depressing. Right I'll not mention this again...and I honestly don't sit here for hours dwelling on such matters but I think that they are all natural thoughts we all think at some time it's whether you can let it go..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
"Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in" ~ Alan Alda0 -
I'll cheat and borrow Frugal's greetings...Hope you have a good day!

we're going to Seaton Carew
The times I have spent there:)but with no transport and all that has happened in recent years its been a long time so it's probably changed."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Hey POPPERWELL - you've got us, we're always here for each other and we're the biggest family in the world and guess what, you're a part of us and I hope you will always feel so. We'll pick you up and dust you down if needed, we'll laugh with you (sometimes at you if you're amusing) and understand, best of all we'll listen and sometimes that helps as much as anything else, so sorry you feel alone but there's always us bless you, keep your pecker up Cheers Lyn and Docky Dog xxx.0

Popperwell:- don't worry about being political, we all have our opinions and are entitled to air them. Most of us have got to a fair age and are past being told what we can and can't do. Agreeing with everything to play your life safe results in a fairly dull life and a deep rumble of un-voiced resentment. It's not good for you.
As a fairly fiery Sagittarian I am probably more vocal than most about what I will put up with, but I have found with age that it's worth considering all sides. Listening to people properly, with all your ears (rather than forming your half of the conversation while they are speaking) adds value to both your lives. Many people have lost the ability to listen.
Over the last few posts the over whelming feeling I get from you is your awful loss and loneliness since the death of your Mum. Having looked after her, there now seems to be a big hole where your normal routine would be. Your words about the 'official' people involved in her care shows a feeling of being let down by the system, yet you still had to accept that level of care from them. There is a lot of anger. It's early days in your grief and you are a long way from moving from the anger and loneliness that you feel. That is normal, as are the 'depressed' feelings. No one bounces after such a significant loss, (If they did you would worry) Taking your time to remember your Mother is your right, tell those who think you should snap out of it to Bu88er Off! Everyone grieves differently and that is as it should be.:grouphug:
Keep posting here and never feel that you have to change who you are in order to join in. After all we readily accept GQ's Nursey and Mardatha's RV...just shows we can cope with anything you want to throw at us.......Runs away and Ducks :rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
MEME - do you think Mar might throw some sweeties at us if we're rude enough to her - of course you get first go cos it was your idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0
