My son liked the St Clare's and Malory Towers books by Enid Blyton - based in girls boarding schools. I dont remember bullying in those books? However we listened to an updated audio version so suspect there might have been editing.

I have just bought eldest son a heated airer from Lakel*nd as he is struggling to dry his washing in his new place. We have one and use it more or less daily as it only costs 5 p an hour and dries overnight.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    I loved Malory Towers! When I hit 15, I gave my copies to a younger friend, I wish I hadn't :(

I love Enid Blyton books too - I don't think I have mine anymore though :(

It's so blumming miserable here :( it's chucking it down and it's really dark and gloomy. The weather definitely has an impact on my mood - I so can't be bothered by anything today :( at least it's Friday :)

Have a good day everyone :)

I loved the Famous Five, but my grandma hated Enid Blyton so much that her books weren't allowed in the house! Always one for strong opinions, my grandma, she still is!

Prepareathome, I am a long time lurker, sorry to butt in on the thread! we have a portaloo which we use in the campervan. We were advised to use disinfectant rather than the expensive chemicals, and that has always worked just fine. We use the cheapy basic one from tesco at less than 50p
Hope that helps to save you money!!

What is the oil cleansing method you are all talking about?

Here it is Byatt http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/ I'm not going to use castor oil though, just extra virgin olive oil on a night time. I did it last night and used a bar of soap this morning. It's a big money saver so going to try to keep it up this time. I figure I would clean face when in bath or shower as hot water already running. I am getting very stingy with everything. Just wish DH was so careful

That is a super idea. I will look into it, thank you :)

    Morning all :)

fuddle I went through the kids hating each other thing and trying to best each other. It started when DS2 started moving independantly and wanting to join in. It does pass eventually, but it takes a while. Good luck x

PAH I hope you are ok and don't have any flooding.

Byatt I would take it all back to the shop if it's in date.

slowlyfading I know how you feel. Here's hoping we get some nicer weather soon x

It's yet another wet and miserable day here. I've washed one load of laundry and it's on the airer in the conservatory. When the dishwasher finishes I'll put a load of towels in to wash and then put those in the dryer which will help dry the stuff on the airer.
I'm also going to attempt to make marshmallows to give my BIL as a birthday present. All the recipes say to make them on a dry day and given there is no hope of that any time soon, I'm hoping for the best. Then I'm going to be cleaning up the mess I make while making them.
I'm hoping they turn out ok as if they do I'll be making more as Christmas presents. I did a search for gourmet marshmallows and found somewhere selling big round ones that fit in the top of a mug of hot chocolate and thought they would make a good present with a mug and hot chocolate mix.

    Take care everyone xxx

Blowing a gale force wind and raining again here today...yet again.
We were planning on going into Brum last night to see "The Voyage", a spectacular outdoor show with acrobats, dancers, light projections and a full scale cruise liner in Victoria Square. It was raining on and off all day, came down like stair rods in the evening so the show was cancelled. Good job we realised and didn't make the journey. Maybe tonight? Or tomorrow? We're off to Zummerzet on Sunday for a few days and that's the last night of the show. I think they should have built an ark rather than a cruise ship. If it's because the jet stream has pushed south, couldn't Mr. O'Dreary send Ryanair to jet it back up to us again? That'd make him a few bob and god knows he needs it :D
On the plus side, we had TWO hedgepigs in the garden last night and I'm hoping they're devouring all the slugs.
Enid Blyton: I used to wait at the library desk for hours waiting for someone to bring one back that I hadn't read. Loved "Castle of Adventure" series.
    Normal people worry me.

Stiltwalker I have found this site has been helpful to me and they have a section on games that takes you to other sites for downloads and some even play online.
I used the printables from here when my youngest was very young so they are not just for sen.

    This
    is the site mentioned above.

A few more sites are mentioned here but not got time to check them out at the minute.

On the Enid Blyton thing - it started about 10 years ago when I saw the little girl next door with a copy of "Five Get Into Trouble" and couldn't resist asking if I could borrow it for nostalgic reasons.

Well, embarrassingly, that hour of nostalgia wasn't nearly enough and I collected all these from charity shops plus a few from Ebay over a roughly two year period.

The "of Adventure" series - Kiki the parrot et al!!
The "Secret" series - The Secret Island and so on
The "Barney" mysteries (I like these ones a lot :o)
    Famous Five
    Secret Seven
    Malory Towers
St Clare's....no bullying as such in these but they did like to punish people for misdemeanours by sending them to Coventry. Oh and Darrell from MT and Carlotta from SC weren't averse to giving people a good slapping!
And finally, the Five Find Outers -and Dog - series. I love these:o

Can I just make it clear that I do have a couple of thousand adult books too :rotfl:
