Well actually stopped raining at the moment although we have a warning for very, very heavy rain to start around 7pm, but so far no flooding, road has coped very well but then the fact that there are 5 gigantic holes in it due to gas mains being replaced is most likely helping - they said it would take 4 weeks, that was about 3 months ago and still not finished and I for one will be very happy when they do as they have put temporary traffic lights a bit further along from me as road goes to a single lane just beyond as other side is just a massive deep and long hole and so cars end up being stopped all along road to past mine and although drivers even on road outside mine can see the traffic lights it doesn't stop them sounding their horns to try and make the ones in the front go through the red lights - which would end in crash as of course when its red one way it means the traffic coming the other way are coming along the single part and definitely no room to manoeuvre with a very narrow pavement on one side and big hole on other, am sick and tired of car horns - if wasn't up here in bed it wouldn't be so bad as double glazing downstairs keeps out the noise much better than it does in my room ( lets in more noise than old single glazed windows did) am just glad not had a migraine since it started as I think I would go out and commit murder as some just put their hands on the horn and leave it there and as its a main road into the city its well used day and night so can have horn blasting even in middle of the night, to say its frazzling my nerves is an understatement.
Didn't get to doctors, payback after yesterday so although woke up at 7am when alarm went off and took my meds, then reset alarm for 8am when they would be starting to work, when it went off I realised there was no way I was going anywhere this morning so luckily had not turned laptop off last night - had left it on running a scan, so just signed in to patient.co.uk as luckily our surgery has gone on-line with them and cancelled my appointment as would never have got through on the phone. Did try calling this afternoon but never got through as want to see if they can get doctor to issue the referral which hubby could pick up, as really don't need to see her until ECG has been done, so will try again on Monday...........
Got my glue gun out as wanted to have a go making a bead and button picture for a friend but hands not co-operating and have just ended up with blobs of glue all over frame, over-bed table and my hands and got a nice blister into the bargain from the hot glue, so given it up as a bad job and just been reading.
Thanks for the Marshmallow recipe, never made them, but hopefully will soon. I used to do the home-made playdough for the children, plus salt dough and still have some bits and bobs around that they made and we painted and varnished.
Fuddle I love the poncho, it looks very comfortable to wear. One of these days I might get the hang of my sewing machine and not end up with the loose stitches. Knitting in the round can be tricky especially if you are doing a pattern, but have to admit I do enjoy it, but I prefer using 5 needles, although do have circulars in ever size, just not getting much use at moment, but doesn't stop me collecting up knitting patterns I come across that I like. If I was to knit 24/7 all year long for the rest of my life I could never knit them all, but like to have them as sometimes will use a pattern as a basis for one I have in my head and just need the number of stitches to start me off or something.
So today been very lazy just ran washer a couple of time and put one load so far in tumble dryer - I have an airer but just no room for it anywhere except in bath and to lazy to carry it up stairs today, dish washer has had one load so far, put some lamb in slow cooker for tomorrow and made up a stew type dish for tonight - just frying steak ( got a pack of 5 pieces YS last week) so cut up 2 of the peices, threw in tin of tomatoes, seasoning, some white wine vinegar and some Bisto gravy- from the powder to thicken, a beef cube and a veg cube and make dumplings ( I just use the vegetable atora) and cooked one nest each of egg noodles and served it all together. No actual vegetables but just didn't fancy any so not exactly healthy but just what I was in the mood for and knew hubby would enjoy after being out from 6am till 6pm in the awful weather ( went really chilly this afternoon but a bit warmer now). Will be good and serve vegetables with the lamb tomorrow.......
I cannot remember who said about the disinfectant for the portable toilet but thanks for that, I will remember.
Right back to my new Terry Prachett book.........different but enjoyable............
Smiley I hope you manage to smile and keep your calm with the ineptness of the SS.
Am hoping the NW bank sorts itself out by Tuesday as although we use a building society they use NW bank to bank with and my next ESA is due Tuesday so gets paid through NW. Will call my building soc Monday to check and if there are any problems will have to see if SS will issue a giro although I doubt it as do need the money - my fault for buying to all that lovely YS food, well at least we would eat:) but hubby would have problems work wise as he needs cash for either car park or bus home if he gets a lift in, oh well no use borrowing trouble will just have to hope its all sorted out over the weekend.
Nearly forgot I adore Enid Blyton, even though the children are horrors at times, I have a few in audio book format, my favourite book the is the Magic Faraway tree, although love every series of books, and have quite few but no where near all as I did have years ago, something else to look for in CS

Byatt I already volunteer for a cancer charity. It keeps me busy and I enjoy it but unfotunately it doesn't pay the bills. When I was made redundant before I went to work for them and when my former boss heard I was being made redundant again she asked if I would go back there and be a volunteer.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Unix, I am sorry if I put my foot in it by suggesting it. I hope you hear something positive soon...xx0

You've not put your foot in it Byatt. A lot of people the first time I got made redundant didn't do anything at all. I thought by volunteering I was giving something back as well as keeping myself busy.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Unix, you are doing the right thing because your CV will not have gaps and it shows you are a "can do" person. Do you have a job club near you?0

Evening
My favourite book was The lion the witch and the wardrobe. When my daughter was young I watched the BBC version and have bought her it when she got older on DVD. When my son was younger we watched the movie so it has a lot of meaning for me.
I made both my children, my step children and my Granddaughter watch drop dead Fred with memy daughter laughed when I told her what we had been watching and then she watched it again a few days later as my Granddaughter loved it so much she kept going on about it. The word bogey breath still make her chuckle lol.

I love E Nesbit too Mar, my favorite is Five children and It. And the F H Burnett book The Secret Garden is another favourite. Oh and any book by Alan Garner - best of all The Owl Service.
I thought I was the only 50 something that still collected and read children's books, so glad I'm not alone!
ETA - Mar, have you read about E Nesbit herself - her biog in Wikipedia is astonishing!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -

ETA - Mar, have you read about E Nesbit herself - her biog in Wikipedia is astonishing!Oooooohhh The Owl Service. That seriously-weirded me out as a kid, really lodged in the mind. Out of curiousity, I re-read in a couple of years ago and it is sparse, elegant and get-under-your-skin weird even when you're (allegedly) a grown-up woman of forty-something.
Been strolling around the city this evening as we have a lovely end to a couple of very dodgy days and the ancient walls and river are looking particularly telegenic today. Plus I looped by the library for a browslette and chat with a pal who works there. She was working as we talked, so no slacking there, I'm glad to report.;)
I'm watching my runner beanlets with increasing anxiety. They're chronically light-deprived and are already about 5 inches tall with tiny little leaves on the top, most strange. Will leave them a few more days then start taking them to the lottie as I don't want them to get too sickly.
 I have been unreliably informed by my dear Mum that it is possible to breed slugs. Pause whilst we imagine why anyone would want to..........being Mum, she probably heard it on Radio 4. I blame them for a lot of things.
(((((smileyt))))))) look after yourself, hun, and set the DWerP (rhymes with twerp, dontcha know) right.
Well, went to bed and slept 10 hours overnight last night and will probably rinse and repeat tonight. If people ask me what I do in my spare time, I'm tempted to respond "Sleep!"
Ho-kay, have a good evening, and let's hope that the bankers' computers sort themselves out by tomorrow. Shall we shout, as one: Turn it Off and Turn it On Again.
