We were planning on going into Brum last night to see "The Voyage", a spectacular outdoor show with acrobats, dancers, light projections and a full scale cruise liner in Victoria Square. It was raining on and off all day, came down like stair rods in the evening so the show was cancelled. Good job we realised and didn't make the journey. Maybe tonight? Or tomorrow? We're off to Zummerzet on Sunday for a few days and that's the last night of the show. I think they should have built an ark rather than a cruise ship. If it's because the jet stream has pushed south, couldn't Mr. O'Dreary send Ryanair to jet it back up to us again? That'd make him a few bob and god knows he needs it
On the plus side, we had TWO hedgepigs in the garden last night and I'm hoping they're devouring all the slugs.
Enid Blyton: I used to wait at the library desk for hours waiting for someone to bring one back that I hadn't read. Loved "Castle of Adventure" series.
Another long time lurker raising her head above the parapet
Massive thanks to Hobson's Choice for mentioning The Voyage. We went last night and had a great time for the price of the fuel to get there and car parking. Even the weather nearly behaved itself.
I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Vivaladiva you do know you're not allowed to go back to lurkdom now, don't you? I'm sure Greyqueen will be along soon to demand tea. I've just made myself a brew so you are excused from making tea for me ....
Am feeling a bit more chipper this morning. Gosh, how super, as Enid Blyton's characters would say.
Fuddle - one year a friend and I made saltdough for her little boy and my neighbour's little girl to make Christmas tree ornaments from - we used Christmas cookie cutters to make stars, angels and reindeer. Painted and glittered and they looked as terrible as things made by toddlers can look, but we had lots of fun.

DH is outside getting gravel and filling in holes in garden made while unearthing drains that "genius" of former owner had covered with paving stones and lots and lots of earth on top.
We think this is what has been causing our garage to flood every now and then and the present wet weather has been a good time to check out possible solutions. Have had to reroute drainpipe or guttering as well and neighbour not pleased so trying to mollify him and reassure everything will be sorted out properly.
Found out the other day that the new bathroom has a floor that is tiled on top of existing tiles - hence floor tiles are now cracking and leaking onto hall ceiling. Not sure if the previous owner was stupid, careless or downright malevolent before doing house up to sell but not happy  Instead of using savings to do things we really "want" like new kitchen stuff etc we are paying out for the chaos the idiot that calls
himself a professional buider that owned the house has caused.
As he has had various company names judging by letters that have arrived here I am paranoid that we are not using anyone connected to him to do work for us.
Sorry for the rant and hope things are going well for everyone or will get better.
So pleased kidcat's son will get help he needs and fingers crossed for jobsearches.
Need to feed youngest (18) so see you later and hugs."This site is addictive!"

Kidcat so glad your DS is nearer to getting the help and support from school that he should be having.
Another Chalet School fan waving at you both!
I'm not been on here for a while as things had been so stressful at work with old boss dying suddenly before Christmas & a hundred million things to sort as a result of that... Things had started to get calmer but something else has come up this week making me feel very stressed :-( Really worried about jobs at the moment, for me & the other staff, so just feeling pretty sick.
Home wise - Errant Husband is now, 15 months after leaving, starting to actually have DS2 at his & the girlfriends house. He's had a row with DS1 that's resulted in DS1 saying he doesn't want dad in the house at all, compromised to say not when DS1's there & put in practice (as Errant Husband isn't respecting this) as not if I'm not there... Have been told by various professionals that we need to work on boundary setting already - so what they'd say about this, dread to think!
I've been ill so not been able to talk to him & set clearer boundaries, but will. Including - do not ever swear at my children or push them or make them feel intimidated especially in their own home.
My thoughts are with you all! Will try not to drop away again...0 -
Spiky, I admire your restraint using the word "errant". At 15 months out, a post about my ex would be full of these !!!!!!! and !!!!!!!!
Definitely set boundaries. Was he always that way with children or is it since he left? You don't have to answer.
I woke up this morning feeling like I have the whole world on my shoulders, very, very down. Kind of know why, but doesn't help somehow. Also aching all over, with ulcers on my tongue and niggly pains over kidneys. Trying to read a book to distract myself, but I read several pages and then realise it hasn't sunk in, so have to start again.0 -
On a separate note, has anyone done napkin decoupage? If so any tips/hints please? I plan to decoupage a vintage trolley on wheels, where the tray comes off the top and shows storage for cutlery etc...0

Hello Byatt
I've been lurking on this thread since it's beginning but first time to post. Yesterday I sorted through all my craft magazines ready to give away/recycle, one of the reasons being I'm no longer interested in card making. There's several new things I want to have a go at and a few more at which I want to become more skilled - I always seem to start things, get to mediocre level then move on to something elseNapkin decoupage falls in the new things to try camp and I've got as far as youtube - several good vids on there eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McXbUS0twUo&list=FLow3cu47c0S3zzjI3DZNz7A&index=3&feature=plpp_video and I found a fantastic site selling thousands of different napkins. I'm sure you can get the Mod podge (or similar) from many places but they do sell it on Amazon if you're interested. I've got a couple of bits of furniture that I want to try this technique on but want to get old crafting stuff disposed of and make some room first
I'd love to know how you get on.

My favorite book as a gal has to have been "The little white horse" by Elizabeth Goodge which was made into a god-awful Disney film called the Secret of Moonacre, quite recently. I also adored all of the Little House on the Prairie books, and My Side of the Mountain about a boy who goes and lives in a tree. All the signs of the woman I would become are in those books :rotfl: I'm STILL waiting to get snowed in, waiting for my unicorn, and would quite happily live in a tree....
Been making fishy stuff (For Pembs Fish week) at w*rk all morning, sushi prepped, fish soup made, and showed the girls how to finish it off...dealt with some lompsters (as DD used to call them) and did a HFW crab tart, was very quiet when I left at quarter to one - hope they got some fish eating customers!!!
Did anyone see that story on the news about the bloke who lived a double life for 20 years and had two families, one with 8 kids and the other with 4??? I'm struggling to get my head around how that worked? He had a full time job too....#

Did anybody else read "Tom's Midnight Garden" ? I've still got it here0

Ooh KatieOwl , you've just named three of my favourite books
, I also loved the Susan Cooper, The Dark is Rising sequence, and a lot of Joan Aiken's stories.
I'm just popping in to say Hi, and sorry I went missing after joining you all.......my youngest ds has been struggling with some issues related to his autism and when I'm in the midst of things I do tend to dissappear ( which is silly really as it would probably help me to write about it). I'll catch up on this thread later, off to get some baking done.0
