I'm contemplating putting in an AF order. I have a list of stuff I need, If I can get the majority of stuff on there it will be worth it. Off to go look.
I did my contemplating last weekend and took delivery of my order just now. I'm currently awash with flavoured cous-cous, 2 litres of salad dressing (£1.50) , 8 packets of Carr's water biscuits (£1), 3 litres of long-life single cream (£1), Twinings English Breakfast loose tea (£1.50 for 2x200 gramme tins - might make nice Xmas presents), green lentils and a whole load of halva (yum, yum, yum and cheap, cheap, cheap). And a few other things. The 4 for a quid toothpastes are Wilkos.
I'm now facing the challenge of where to store it all. I might be eating cous-cous every day for lunch for about a year at this rate.0 -
Smiley, I hope you feel better soon, it's awful having those long crying moments. If you need to talk just PM me. ((((((smiley)))))))
Fuddle, DD is about 25 miles away, not far in one sense but the type of roads means it can take up to an hour to get there, plus the petrol is so expensive I have to plan trips. If she does move closer, there are also more transport options for her, train, bus as well as for me. I am just stunned that she has decided she wants to move as she was dead set against it, even though we all wanted her to be somewhere with more support. The thing that worries me is that they will not give her the right place, so that needs some discussion. It's no point in moving from the frying pan into the fire. Anyway...I will just have to see how it all works out.0 -

Snap - think I might have over-ordered
Made pitta bread yesterday - 24p for 8 big ones. They puffed up like inflated whoopee cushions in the oven and were soft and chewy when cooled, not at all dry or difficult to split. Won't be buying those again.

1st day of summer and I've got a thick cardi on and am thinking about winter prep - want to make some window quilts using my freecycled sewing machine. Haven't done any real sewing for ages so better go practice a bit first. Lunch first though"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Do you have an M&Co near you KatieOwl? There is one in the market town close to my parents - used to be closer to the lower end of the market but they have a lot of nice (sensible) frocks. Quite a few less sensible ones as well but that's your choice I suppose
I was lucky enough to be treated to 2 (!) by my Mum last time I visited and get compliments every time I wear them in the office - I think they're lovely and feminine but have hemlines around the knee and small sleeves so you don't feel inappropriate.
They had a booklet recently of '40 under £40' dresses so might be worth a shot

Not one in Wales apart from Cardiff, so that may explain why I've not heard of them...I will have a shufty on their website.
Someone else suggested this http://www.alexandra.co.uk/D2746/ which I think will be good too...I might order her one of those.
She's just agreed to take a house just around the corner from where she will be working, it will be £50 a week rent each for her and BF, I don't think they will get anything any cheaper, and the council tax is lower than here (they are in a different county other side of the river) so they are going for it...get my sitting room and craft cupboard back

Katieowl that dress is lovely.
My middle son has just moved out because he got a job on the coast. I will not be doing anything with his room yet because he is in lodgings just a few doors from his work. If he does eventually move into a flat or something it will be my store room as well as a spare bedroom. my craft stuff is in the attic where the light is better.
I am glad the link helped stiltwalker, I nearly didn't put it on.0 -
Afternoon Toughies, all this talk of Enid Blighton books really does take me back. My two girls loved them particularly The Faraway Tree and The Wishing chair, as well as the famous fives adventures. We had some audio casettes as well and they loved to listen on car journeys and also at bedtimes. It's lovely that littlies still like them today. The weather here is dismal grey and mostly wet (particularly whenever I walk the dog!!!) and it is quite chilly today so I am going to make a nice vegetable stew and dumplings for supper tonight to warm us up. Off to visit DD2 tomorrow and am looking forward to that very much. Stay warm, stay dry Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Hello Everyone
smileyt I do hope you are feeling better now (((((((((((hugs))))))))))))
I remember reading the Amelia Jane books Endi Blyton wrote about the naughty doll when I was younger. Although looking back they were very moralising. I never really got into the Famous Five books, I thought Anne was an idiot, but loved the descriptions of all the food.
Today has been a day full of rain and visitors. The third one has just left. I was also recovering from a picnic on the park I had with my friend and her two year old son yesterday. I had forgotten just how much energy small boys have. It made me almost glad that my two are now so grown up, even if we have had to tell DS1 that he has to leave the house at least once a week. One visitor was my friend Emma who does courses at the local Adult Education Centre under a local mental health charity and she thinks I should go and get a referral and see if there are any courses I can do. I'm just not sure about going to the Doctors and asking, as apart from my two bouts of PND, I don't think I have ever been diagnosed with depression since then. Even though it keeps turning up it's never been bad enough to get me back on anti-depressants.
I've sorted out a pile of stuff for a friend who is having a car boot sale, so that's a win win situation. I get rid of things that are cluttering up the house and she gets some spending money for her holiday. It's sitting in the living room at the moment waiting for collection.
DS1 had his last exam today, so he is now home until he starts his A-Levels. He wants to celebrate with pizza and Resident Evil films, so I'm waitng for DH to get home to collect the pizzas as it's half the price of delivery. I'm going to hide upstairs as I hate movies like that.
Tomorrow it looks like DS2 and I are going to a quiz evening. It's £7 each and I don't really want to go as I had to fork out £40 for boots for DS2 yesterday, but it's for a good cause and includes dinner in the price. I'll let DH know and he can decide if he wants to come or not depending on when he gets home.
DH is home, so time to go.
Take care everyone xxxx0 -

When it got to "longest day" my Gran always used to get a wicked twinkle in her eye and say "Well, the nights are drawing in now!"I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

:rotfl::rotfl:Anne is a bit of an idiot isn't she? And Julian's a condescending PITA.
As for the food - nobody could make a hard-boiled egg (with a screw of salt!), a radish and a tomato sound as appetising as Enid Blyton could! And I don't even like hard-boiled eggs!
A few years ago after borrowing a neighbour's child's FF library book I actually re-collected all the FF books as well as a few of her other series'. They're good comfort reading:o:o but sometimes I just flick through looking for the picnic or farmhouse lunch descriptions!0
