    Hello all
I de-lurked on the "not mentioning the T word" thread a few weeks ago and then went MIA for a little while, only to find on my return that most of you had decamped over here! Hope it's OK to join you?

I'm watching the weather forecast like mad as we are due to take a ferry on the Irish Sea tomorrow. So far this week they've mostly been cancelled :(. Mind you, I'm a terrible sailor so, if they do decide to sail, no doubt I'll spend most of the trip glued to the white plumbing apparatus! Mind, if they cancel again, OH is talking of taking a plane instead...........in THIS weather :eek::eek::eek:.

Hope those over the border are coping OK with the weather, we are a bit south of Ginnyknit and it's horrendously blowy here so goodness alone knows how you are coping up there :eek:. Hope you all stay in the warm and stay safe. I had visions of Mardatha's poor hennies being blown away, very relieved to hear they're safely tucked up Mar.

ETA - oooh, poor you Beccatje, that sounds awful. Never mind the eating, I'd be more focused on medicinal drinking by now! Hope you feel a bit better soon.

melt the chocolate and suck through a straw...where there is a will and all that :D
  • Beccatje sending healing thoughts to you, isn't it awful how with the cost of dental work being so expensive you have to chose to lose a tooth and have it saved. Twice I was lucky, different back teeth broke and dentist sent me to dental hospital to have them repaired, so it was free, but only even after 5 injections the area around the teeth did not numb and so needed something more, don't know what it was but they could have cut my leg off and I wouldn't have cared, boy was I flying, but then they give you something to bring you down again, shame, felt all dizzy afterwards, but worth it not having to pay as was going to cost a fortune One repair came off earlier this year ( it felt like plaster round the tooth) but as it was just a matter of replacing it as not pain and no more damage it didn't cost much to sort and amazing one injection numbed me nicely.

    Stay warm and safe.

beccatje I hear you can liquidise fish and chips too :rotfl:

i just nipped out to feed the guinea pigs and found my little greenhouse had blown down the garden - luckily it was empty - and it was held down by a huge paving stone, thing is Im in the office about 4 foot away and didnt hear a thing. I am so glad I resisted putting my new walk in plastic greenhouse up till after the snow in Spring

Changed my wet clothes and am staying firmly put!

  • Ooh poor you Beccatje, I hope you feel better soon - I recommend some nice comforting soup this evening.

Well I made it home before the curfew. It's pretty blowy at the moment, but nothing completely outrageous. I'm still trying to work out why one of my neighbours thought it would be sensible to put their recycling box of glass and tins out in this howling gale when the collection isn't until tomorrow!

I can't see my hens, I'm hoping they have all had the sense to stay tucked up in the roost upstairs.

Oh well, nothing but a nice quiet evening (weather permitting) planned here. Highlights probably include an EVOO moment whilst drinking red wine and watching "Living with the Amish".

    Take care everyone

Congratulations on the exam results 7WW.

Everyone in windy areas, hope you're all keeping safe and warm. Saw some of it on the lunch time news

Thanks so much to everyone who made suggestions about washing machines. I went into John Lewis this morning, asked the salesman what was best, then told him my budget, at which point he stopped talking about Miele lol. There was a Siemens on the shop floor for £499 - still too much. He then went and twiddled around on his computer, came back and announced there was an unboxed one in the warehouse for £399. Then he came up with a £50 off selected Siemens models offer as well, and free delivery and removal of old machine, so a new Siemens it is for £349, which I'm very happy with. Oh and it's got a 5 year guarantee too :)

The Comet clearance website suggested by Kidcat was going to be my next option. The only reason I didn't go with that immediately was that it would take too long to be delivered and the wait to know if your bid has been successful. I shall certainly used it in future for planned purchases though.

I thought it was just me! I always get the cheap guides at Christmas and always regret it because, like you say, full of soap gossip etc. I remember reading my grandma's radio times when I was growing up , always a nice traditional picture of father christmas. I'm going to spend the £2.50 this year :)

I splashed out & bought the RT after spending far too long deliberating :rotfl:

Nearly got blown back inside today when I left for the school run. I hope you lot oop North are OK - just heard the trailer for radio 4's PM & it sounds grim. Its not too cold here, just a bit windy & foster cat is behaving like a mad thing.
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...

    Morning All

Hope you lot up in the north are all batten'd down - I must admit my geog of that area is a bit vague, and have a terrible memory. Coupled with peeps often being a bit cagey about their whereabouts, I am unsure of who is in line for doing a Mary Poppins - we need a pin map I think! Anyway good luck everyone, it looks like its going to be a horrid day everywhere.

Kitchy - Well done on kicking the evil weed - I stopped smoking in 1984 (ahem, I was a child smoker :D) as OH did not smoke and thought it unfair to marry him whilst smelling like an ashtray. Best thing I ever did, and if you want to, you will (always say our brain is the greatest gift and we totally under-rate what we are able to put it to).

I am not a sweetie person generally, chocolate and lots of it is my downfall, but thought Jelly Babies give you a good sugar rush if you are needing energy to battle the winds, and Fishermen's friends are so horrible, after one of them anything seems ok!

I can't join the Mad Pie women, I remember a time in the 70's when Mum and Dad took us on holiday to Devon with another couple, they took it in turns to cook. I will never forget the look of horror on Mum's face when on the other woman's night she brought out two of these pies and presented them as dinner!!! The tirade of abuse heaped upon the poor woman (not to her face!) by mother put me off them forever - she was labelled a disgrace to womenkind and I was told in no uncertain terms that pies in tins were the work of th devil. So I have steered clear ever since! i quite like the idea of the tin being used as a cat dish though, I might call down Mum's rath from upon high and get one just for that!

    Stay safe everyone!

we wont eat the pies in tins, since there was a finget found in a certain maked pie, that was it for us, i look at them now and heave in the supermarket and that was years ago, yuk
