Beccatje you have my complete understanding and sympathy. I've suffered from several episodes of dental pain and seriously I would rather give birth (and that was never plain sailing for me)
7 Week Wonder - congratulations !!!
Well the pre operative assessment appointment gave some scary information that I'm trying not to think about, along with the joyful news that as I have a problem with my blood clotting I will need an injection for the next 3 days. Didn't bother me too much to hear this until the nurse told me that she would need to send a fax to my GP to ask her to issue a prescription for this and .......... I will have to inject myself each evening :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: I seriously do not know how I am going to face doing this.
Off to catch up with the thread properly as I only skim read a few posts on my phone earlier.
Don't worry about the injections. I had a DVT years ago and when I was pregnant with DS1 & DS2 I had to inject myself every day from 12 weeks until several weeks after the births. I was horrified at the thought but surprised myself and managed - though have to say glad I don't have to do it again for months on end. It really wasn't half as bad as I thought. Key thing is don't procrastinate, just wait til you have a quiet moment to yourself, try and relax, deep breathing helps and quick jab and you're done. As its not going in a vein, its not too bad, just a quick sting. If I can do it, I'm sure you can. Let us know how you get on. Maybe promise yourself a little reward once its done? Good luck :grouphug:0 -
GreyQueen - there are only pillowcases left but I got flat and fitted flannelette sheets from BargainCrazy for 3.99 each (double) AND they were BOGOF AND great quality (100% cotton) so what a bargain. I searched like mad on the site but can only find a set (9.99, I think it includes a flat sheet) and pillowcases left - really sorry you missed that but worth keeping an eye on the site I think.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Thank you all SO MUCH for the supportive PM's and the posts re giving myself injections. No chance of a practise with an orange (good idea though!) as I have 3 pre-filled syringes, so nothing spare to practise with . However, when I went to my GP to collect the prescription for the injections and explained how nervous I was, she rang through to reception and told them I was to be added to the end of the afternoon list (even though there was no free appointment) and she is going to guide me through giving myself the first one. So that is somewhat of a relief :j
Greyqueen I have no idea how long I will be in hospital. I'm having my spleen removed so it depends a lot on how well the wound heals because of the risk of bacterial infection .......no spleen in place to help fight it you see - oh the irony :rotfl::rotfl: Also have the blood clotting problem to compound things so they are evasive when pressed on likely length of stay.
Very nice and sunny here today but brrrrrrr cold. Am off now to make some tea and decide what I can make for dinner to feed 3 bodies that will use up 6 thin slices of cooked brisket from the freezer. I am determined to eat all the bits of food that have been languishing in there fore longer than is good for them.People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

Hello all.
I'd put my Christmas tree up the other day, but it looked a bit sad really, and tilted to the side, so I decided this morning to take the decorations off, make a few new ones to add in, fluff it up a bit more and redecorate it. So I did and was stood feeling pretty smug as the last decoration was put in place....
Then the tree snapped in half.
Turned out the slight tilt had been the central post of it snapping slowly.
I was left rather puzzled holding the top half of the fully decorated tree in one hand and looking at the other half on the floor. The look on my face must have been priceless.
I've managed to cobble it together again, more or less. If anything goes bump in the night though it's more likely to be my tree than santa.
Hugs to anyone needing one, baileys to anyone needing that.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

Don't apologise at all, I had a good chuckle too. My mother was nearly crying with laughter when I told her on the phone.
Frankly the phrase "it just came off in my hand" was invented for me. Fortunately over time I've developed skills to fix most of the things I break, or I'd be an expensive liability.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Although all the talk of crises is making me want to go back to bed, so on a lighter note -
Xmas Radio Times - does anyone else get annoyed with the holiday bit in the middle? The first thing I do is rip this out before I've read anything :rotfl:
Just what I did when I found it in the midddle of my copy. It went straight into the recycling bin. Glad it's not just me who finds it annoying0 -
I was talking to someone this morning about the hard times and how to cope around christmas time, and I thought I'd share with you lovely folks here as well.
To maybe give a positve note on the hard stuff.
When I was about 9 years old my mum, sis and I were really hard up. We had just moved after a broken down relationship my mother had and we had to start all over again. House wise and money wise. We lived on benefits and times were very, very tough. Even as a youngster I knew that much.
Christmas was coming up and even though in Holland christmas was at that time not about presents, it was however about decorating and having lots of yummy foods.
But we couldn't afford any.
At school, we had a christmas tree in our classroom and my mum had spoken to my teacher about what would happen to it during the christmas school break. He told her it would be thrown out and she convinced him to give it to us.
So after school, that last day before the holliday we got to pick it up. We didn't have a car so it had to be done on bycicles.
There was the three of us, trying to carry this tree home while riding our bikes. Mum took the heavy part, the bottom end of the tree, my sister held it in the middle and I held the top. We cycled in a row, holding on to this flipping huge, spikey, prickly tree, trying not to fall over and navigating around corners and stuff, and it wasn't long before we all had the giggles. I remember us all pretty much laughing all the way home.
We set the tree up in our flat, but we ofcourse didn't have any decorations. Mum had bought a roll of alluminum foil that we used pieces of to make into balls. Crunched up, and added a piece of string so that they could hang in the tree. Cotton balls were also used to hang in the tree.
We made popcorn and spent the day stringing popporn onto a long thread to make garlands.
I remember how we giggled and I remember how pretty I thought it all looked.
I was SO proud of our pretty Christmas tree!
That evening (christmas eve I think it was) the doorbell rang and an old family friend stood there, holding a great big box.
It was a christmas package he had gotten from his work (a common practice in Holland) full of luxury christmas food. He somehow had had the thought that we could really use it, so he brought it over.
We couldn't believe it! There was so much posh food!. Pat!, and chrismas bread and salmon and chocolate biscuits and everything! I could tell my mum was trying to hide her crying when she went into the kitchen.
I am 43 years old now. But I remember that one christmas as being one of the best ever! I don't remember any other holliday from my childhood, but I remember that christmas! And I will never forget it either. It was just simply the BEST! It was filled with laughter and giggles, with being together and being so SO grateful for the kindness of others.
And as I was telling this story this morning it made me re-think about what I want for christmas this year. I want it to be about being together with my family. I want it to be about giggles and laughter, and I want it to be about gratefullness.
So chip everybody who is finding it hard going around christmas time. Having no money to spare doesn't mean that you can't make this christmas memorable.0 -
Thanks Beccatje and Softstuff for your Christmas tree stories. We're off to get ours tonight - I'll think of you both as we do0

Gardenia101 I grinned to recognise that kid's book Six Dinner Sid. Used to babysit a friend's lad and that was his fave. I always liked it because I recognised that I'd met a few Sids in the RW. We had one cat who moved in with us despite there already being an incument of the feline persuasion. Cat then decided the neighbour would be a better bet as she was cat-less and would spend hour after hour sat on that poor woman's patio staring in thru the closed French doors (nose up against the glass) as if trying to hypnotise her into adoption...........
I didn't know it was from a book, & I wonder where the 6th dinner went as DS is adamant that he is Sid 5 dinners!
This is how I fell for it - my table is opposite the patio doors so I see him all the time he is outside & he is also very vocal. He has that amazing ability to get through any open window, even hanging by his front paws from my tiny bathroom window & hauling himself through it after he has jumped up from the roof of the utility room. He is like Macavity in reverse by just "appearing"...
He does make me laugh - he has such a look of disgust on his face when he goes to sit by the radiator, then realises it isn't on!If you sides-to-middle a double sheet, you really have to use it on a single bed afterwards, or cut it down for cot-sheets or pillowcases. A truly OS household has to think ahead on its thrifting, dontcha know.
Any idea what to do with a fitted sheet that is going in the middle? All I can think of is rags (boring)
Stillstruggling - hope you are feeling better soon.
Beccatje - that is a lovely storywhich has cheered me up. Was feeling a bit ratty this morning as yesterday I sliced my palm trying to cut bread (stupid, I know), the night before I scalded the same hand filling my hottie bottie. This morning both bits were sore & I consoled myself by reasoning my right hand was OK - only to impale my right thumb on a fork in the dishwasher! It has torn a shallow cut about 2 cm long & jolly well smarts - still not sure exactly how I did it. I could only find my DS Batman plasters, so I look a sight & bizerrely "Accidents Will Happen" by the fabulous Elvis Costello has just come on the radio :rotfl:
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0
