Thanks GreyQueen, have ordered the book as an extra Christmas present for the kids (don't expect I will last until Christmas without reading it myself though!) £3.52 new delivered. Have fun sheet shopping :)

We're going to decorate our tree today... I MAY let the children help... I can get rather fussy about spacing and symmetry, will try to restrain myself, after all, it's all for the kids... :o

    Morning all,

Very frosty here this morning, the car temp thingie was reading -3°C when DH & DS1 came back from their snooker match last night at approx 10.30pm.

I have pegged out DS2's school shirts etc and his PE kit etc, the shirts were nearly frozen by the time I'd got the second lot out but a good frost is supposed to be good for whites so everything is staying out, and the sun is now rising as well, so we shall see.

    Have a good day everyone

    Morning all.

My tree is still erect, yay! I feel though, having given everyone a laugh, a bit like Stan Laurel.

Hubby as a Christmas treat took me to the English butchers about half an hour away and I went wild. If it didn't sound very dodgy I'd say I had a bit of a sausagefest. Australian sausages suck, there's no other way to describe it. We had pork sausage for lunch and I've also eaten half a pork pie (mmmmm). I have a freezer drawer with sausages, mince, some lamb chops, bacon, black pudding and tripe. So I'm a very happy bunny. You don't want to know how much it cost him... Still, he enjoys it as much as I do.

  • I posted this on the preparing for winter thread but had to share it here I went to farmers market, its the first time I have felt able to go anywhere on my own in well over a year, mentally and physically up to it. Can make it winter related as sun was shinning when taxi dropped me off, but then heavens opened, at first it was heavy rain but then turned to sticky sleet, so everything just for a short time looked white, with all the Christmas things in the market - its only small just along one street in the village about 20 stalls, it looked perfect, I would have taken a photo but didn't want my phone to get wet, hubbys birthday present to me a brand new blackberry £329, not likely to get another good phone like that ever again, so you can understand why, but just made it so perfect for me, everyone huddling up but I had put my silk lined socks on under my trainers and although short sleeves under my coat, the white cotton duffel with quilted cotton lining, I was as warm as toast, and hood kept me perfectly dry. I spent more than I planned but the butchers stall were full of such lovely meats so we have enough in to keep us going for quite a while. Treated us to a lovely piece of organic lamb for Christmas Day, I was going to do a lamb joint I had in freezer but this looked so good even raw. I got my wreath - £15 for nothing special in flower shop but only £8 for a really lovely one, even bought some mistletoe. As I was waiting for taxi home sleet stopped and sun came out and was so sunny, but now just 30 mins later its gone so dull again. Sky is leaden as if its heavy with snow, but most likely will be rain, or maybe some more sleet. Sun has actually come out again. Oh yes another thing I bought, just couldn't resist was a wooden man with a flowerpot as a hat who is sitting knitting, and as I love to knit I just fell in love with it, wood is un treated, so if dry tomorrow I will treat it, or as soon as I can.

I am still giddy from actually going anywhere on my own, tired now but happy - haven't told hubby how much I have spent yet at the market, no you do not want to know.

  • Glad you had a successful day with the bedding GreyQueen, shame about the boots though. We're lucky enough to have a Pavers outlet here and I buy boots in the sales after Xmas, ready for next year. I'm wearing last years boots atm. Far too expensive to be bought at full price (faint).
DS1 is a chef in Liverpool and works Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, since he split with his OH he's been on his own for Christmas Day. This doesn't seem to bother him, but worries the hell out of me and, since he doesn't have much money or transport, it's too far for him to travel down here for just one day. This year we've managed to find a cheapish hotel for Christmas night (he has a one bed flat) so we were going to travel up and have Xmas dinner with him. I got really excited when he said "that would be lovely". He's now back tracking a bit and saying he accepted an "informal" offer for lunch with friends.
Hotel not booked yet (coz I know what he's like) but I'm feeling really disappointed and upset now. Sitting here with my eyes dripping over the keyboard and sniffing.
Oh well, it might still happen and we get to see him at Christmas for a change. Plus - lunch cooked by a chef is always a good idea!!
Tree is still in the loft, hubby has hurt his knee and doesn't fancy climbing the ladder and I don't have enough strength to haul myself over the ladders and into the loft. The decs are older than God's dog and every year we're convinced the lights won't work. They're Pifco ones I bought from the market when the boys were little and they're 46 and 44 now. I refuse to buy any new ones, I like the memories the old ones bring with them when they shine brightly into the tree.
I shall now b*gger off, find a big hankie and have a cuppa or three (maybe with a drop of Baileys...it's very frosty here this morning - as if I need an excuse)!
    Normal people worry me.

All fine here, had to run out at first light and knock snow off the roof of the hens pen as the weight was making it sag so much it was ready to burst. Is heavy wet snow and might melt.

We just put up our christmas tree, with the kids' 'help'.
No worries, I'll sort it out to the way I want it when they are in school next week. :D

Now I'm sitting down to a lovely bowl of honey and almond flavoured porridge my darling sister sent me from Scotland. Just the medicine for a sore mouth. :p
Porridge and Horlicks.. that's perfectly good comfort for wintery days for me. :T
Maybe it's a good thing we don't get Horlicks in Holland.. I would probably overdose on the stuff! :D
