Horlicks is essential when the temperature drops below 3 deg, especially at high altitudes. Trust me I'm a doctor:D
Hope everyone is doing ok, I'm feeling pretty blessed with life at the moment - which is a distinct improvement on the funk I've been in recently.
Got up to find a blanket of snow but had to go into work briefly, so gingerly made my way along the roads. Had one bend which i didn't so much drive round as ski round - saying out loud "Oh no, theres a lamp-post, oh no, there's a parked car - point the wheels where you want them to go, point the wheels where you want them to go"
Then it was on to the supermarket where I struck lucky. I *never* manage to find any whoopsies, which I put down to shopping first thing in the morning. But when I got to the meat section I managed to get: Christmas sausages/chipolatas, chicken breasts and a crown of duck all for half price. The chicken breasts are getting made into a tagine as I type and the crown of duck will do us for New Year's Eve. I also got the biggest head of broccoli I've ever seen for 35p - so it was broccoli and stilton soup for lunch, with plenty left over.
So now the kitchen is going like a fair with the tagine plus a cake for my colleague cooking away and I've even had time to do a few none essentials like topping up the wild bird feeder. Poor things - it got emptied during the week and cos we're out all day it never gets done until the w/e.
Hope everyone is doing ok and those with snow are getting on ok. According to the met office the warmest part of the next 24 hours will be at 3 am:o
Have a good weekend all.
ETA: How could I forget the best bit! We got home yesterday to a gift from a relative we'd helped out earlier in the year. A very generous amount of vouchers for our local farmshop/deli/cafe. Will come in so handy over the Christmas hols:j0 -

This doesn't seem to bother him, but worries the hell out of me and, since he doesn't have much money or transport, it's too far for him to travel down here for just one day. This year we've managed to find a cheapish hotel for Christmas night (he has a one bed flat) so we were going to travel up and have Xmas dinner with him. I got really excited when he said "that would be lovely". He's now back tracking a bit and saying he accepted an "informal" offer for lunch with friends.
Well if you do end up coming up and he then does go out your are welcome here, only hubby and I together this year for Christmas dinner, we are having organic lamb I bought at farmers market today, we are not really drinkers but do have wine in, although am going to make mulled wine with no alcoholic wine for us - hubby has to work boxing day and its driving so he will not chance it. So rather than be on your own with your hubby you are more than welcome here in Liverpool and maybe you could see him if not for lunch then later in the day.:)Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

YES!!
If anyone feels the need to send me a big box full, don't suppress it!
And lucky me... I'm the only one in the family that likes it.. *evil cackling laughter..*
I should move to the UK really.. or better yet, Scotland! For all that lovely foodstuff you all have there.. Horlicks, pie in all variety, chocolate oranges... and ofcourse whiskey.0 -
It must be the weather cos my Mum just bought Horlicks - its cheaper at Home Bargains guys:j I hate the stuff and it makes me gag when I make for Oh, he always gets it wrong so I have to make it - why isnt there a gagging smilie???:rotfl:
I went to Home bargains too today and spent £20 on 2 huge bags full of pressies, they have some lovely little candles in jars for 39p :T so got 3 and will put them in a basket of goodies for DS's girlie. Think they are gingerbread scented. When I thought about it, I got lots of bits and bobs for 49 -69p each, they would have been a round pound in the pound shop, so not always the cheapest optionReckon it would have cost me getting on for £40 in the pound shop. Bought lots of O/S sweeties to put in jars for nephew and brother, 49p a bag and a good make too. Just need to find some jars now and dress them up a bit, probably wait till DGS has gone because he would end up conning me out of all the co!!!! mushrooms with that cheeky smile of his.
Preparedat home, well done on your trip out, must be good to know you are organised for Christmas dinner.
Note to self ;- you still need a christmas tree, kids are moaning as its not Christmas till Mum gets the decorations upClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Thanks GreyQueen, have ordered the book as an extra Christmas present for the kids (don't expect I will last until Christmas without reading it myself though!) £3.52 new delivered. Have fun sheet shopping
We're going to decorate our tree today... I MAY let the children help... I can get rather fussy about spacing and symmetry, will try to restrain myself, after all, it's all for the kids...
Another one with OCD where the Xmas tree is concerned but I have learned to let them get on with it and sort it all out once they are in bedIt must be the weather cos my Mum just bought Horlicks - its cheaper at Home Bargains guys:j I hate the stuff and it makes me gag when I make for Oh, he always gets it wrong so I have to make it - why isnt there a gagging smilie???:rotfl:

Ahhhh that's lovely. Thank you so much (blubbing again). What a lovely thought...and here's another one:

I have to agree with ginnyknit about Horlicks, can't stand the stuff along with Ovaltine, Bournvita or any malted hot drink, can't even drink hot milk, even in coffee or drinking chocolate etc.
Have to admit I don't like flannelette sheets either, would never have them on the bed as a child."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell0 -

.
Can I make three I loathe them, do like drinking chocolate but made with water and a bit of cold milk added. Hubby loves them but he also cannot make it right,so he says don't think in the 33 years I have known him he has every made anything except tea, won't even make instant coffee, I make them.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
