    Morning all
Meme - sorry you're feeling rubbish - be kind to yourself.
SDG - the pulled pork was yummy, OH had the most enormous plateful and made the sort of yummy noises while eating that usually only I do!
kidcat - support groups a bit thin on the ground round here as we're a pretty rural area. We have a 0-5's any condition one at the local surestart centre but we are still trying to get that off the ground at the moment so we are a decidedly select group! There are autism and downs groups but DD has neither of those and they only 'do' their own thing. I do belong to a FB group for jouberts parents and have asked on there what other kids are getting but think I may be going it alone!
Byatt - I am going to try and put off being that stroppy until I have exhausted ever other avenue as DS is also looking like he has jouberts so still have to work with these people for a lot of years yet and they have really helped DD so far I just want them to be able to continue to help at this level! To be fair some of the practitioners have tried it's just that their hands are tied. May try the PALS at the hospital if I'm not getting anywhere but don't want to bring down any piles of brown smelly stuff on the heads of hard pressed practitioners who are overworked and under resourced themselves.

: For 7 lurcher sized meals I use 3 packs of turkey, 250g of pearl barley, 250g of macaroni, 1 teaspoon of garlic granules and just over 1 litre of water.

Hi Lyn, I don't want to alarm you, but I read something on a pet food website that says NEVER to give your dog or cat garlic in any form, as it disrupts the red blood cell walls and can make your pet very ill. I was very surprised to read this, as many vets advocate giving them garlic to repel fleas. Other things you shouldn't feed them are grapes and raisins, currants etc, as they carry some sort of organism that are toxic to dogs.

    We live and learn, eh?

Hi Betony, I had read the same about garlic as it's part of the onion family (I think), also learned the hard way about grapes as our dogs loved them, but then younger pooch became ill.

I do know people who feed their dogs cooked bones and chocolate (my ex inlaws), and remember one Christmas secretly removing all the bones from my dog's food bowl, as they just wouldn't listen when i said it shouldn't be done.

Kidcat, thank you for your concern, it's a breast abscess not a tooth abscess. Still your advice stands and although DD has a nurse every day, things aren't improving. I wanted to speak to the nurse over the phone but she was too busy. The nurse says the hole is bigger, and still gunge coming out, and it will take another 3 weeks or so to improve. DD is going to call the doctor today and ask if she should have more antibiotics. She slept well last night so sounds better in herself.

Meme, I'm sorry you feel unwell and are in pain. Pain is so debilitating and drags you down. Try not to be too hard on yourself and rest as much as you can. I know I always feel like a malingerer when I can't do much (no diagnosis as such, but have pain and extreme tiredness)...but when I feel well, I realise I'm not lazy just unwell, It doesn't stop me berating myslef constantly though.

I feel exhausted right now, and have a low mood, and wonder if it's the poor weather again. I felt so much better when it was sunny.

Unix, it is tough waiting to hear, so hope you get a response soon.

Stiltwalker, I understand, and often the softly, softly approach works best. I wish you luck.

Hugs to all who need or want them. :)

edit: Hi Slowly fading, nice to meet you. :)

Fuddle, what a sweet thing for your OH to do. :) The bag looks perfect and you can alway jazz it up with stickers if you wanted to. Black is alway chic and stays in fashion, whereas the flashy ones will not.

    :hello: Hello and welcome, slowlyfading.

I have done some research and a recce in JL and found an entirely personable Miele larder fridge which looks like a suitable prospect. I shall be sending out the wedding invitations any day now. This will be the first ever fridge I have bought and I'm in my late forties. How is this possible, we ask ourselves?

;) Lived in rented & part-furnished places, my dears. Mr Beko came, along with the stove, from my last privately-rented home. As it was being auctioned off shortly after, I was concerned that they'd be wasted and junked and as I needed them, I asked the landlord if I could take them with me. He was a Yorkshireman (still is, I expect) so I knew he'd understand thrift. He graciously agreed.

Now, just go to cruise around the web and make sure that the same thing isn't available elsewhere for a better price.

PS Thanks for the vinegar tip; I was concentrating on the white wine bit and forgetting it was vinegar. I shall try it on oven chips and if it tastes a bit peculiar, use it as a hair rinse.

I got back from my walk at just before 11. I left at 8.55 and I'm pleased with the timing. 50 mins there down hill but oh so much longer up the hill. I need that trolley.

My friend was very sceptical about walking that far/getting a trolley at 8.55 but by nursery pick up she had changed her mind and had looked for trolleys to maybe join me one day. She can't drive. It just took her that one person to make her think out of "ergh, that's fuddy duddy and naff" into actually it's a solution and gives me a bit more independence. She's talking about getting her case down on wheels for now. I feel good about that, even if she doesn't dare go out with it in the end, she's thought about it and changed her thinking. :)

Welcome slowlyfading I haven't been on the frugal challenge thread for a bit, too busy gabbing here but much of what I say here would go on there too so feel daft posting twice. It's lovely here too :)

Oh ETA: doggy is much better this afternoon :) I've got plenty of offal and turkey, a few 'appetisers' they do with bones etc and a meat and chicken and veg cooked mix they do too. He's got pate on BOGOF and loads of it has been separated and into the fridge.

Is it just cooked bones dogs aren't supposed to eat? Thanks for heads up on garlic and I knew about choc and grape products, onions too. :)

:) Thank you for all the good wishes for my exam. It wasn't too bad, except that I couldn't remember many references, but I'd expected that - I'm another one with M.E., and unfortunately for the last few months one of the symptoms has been memory problems, not really what you want when doing an exam  but I will fill in an "extenuating circs" form and send it in along with a copy of a recent letter from my GP which mentions the memory probs. I'm going to take a high dose of fish oil for a few months - that helped a lot last time I was having this sort of problem, though it took a few months. (Of course that means I have to remember to take it :p)

Next time I'm doing an exam I must remember not to try going grocery shopping the same day though :o Really knackered now. Got haircut appointment presently and would cancel it, only we're going away on Friday so it needs done before we go.

    GQ -Fridge sounds lovely!

Fuddle - the trolley looks very chic! If you want to jazz it up you could put big bright flower transfers on it :) Been thinking of doing that with my own as it's plain burgundy, but I don't use it much atm as we've got the car and I can't walk far. Sorry Byatt, I forgot you'd already suggested stickers :o
  • Hi BETONY - thanks for your concern, we feed the hairy one this diet with the full recommendation of his vetty pal. If anyone is concerned about garlic it's so easy to leave it out and put in some parsley or ginger (apparently some dogs like ginger) or just use the turkey, pearl barley and macaroni. Docky is 8 now and has been on this regieme for 6 years with no ill effects at all. He is just as batty now as he was when he was a pup . The compound that could cause the problems is in all members of the allium family, so onions, shallots etc and it can accumulate if you feed to great a quantity. Wise precaution to keep consumption low!!!! Docky sends you a big slurp to say thank you for caring about him! Thanks Cheers Lyn x.

    Hello everyone

Fuddle - loving the shopping trolley! Tres chic and practical too - and it sounds like you may have started a trend.

Byatt - I hope your daughter is a lot better soon, the abscess sounds awful; I really hope it clears up quickly.

Unix - Hope you hear some good news soon on the job front.

Meme - I hope you feel better soon. It's normal to have the post holiday blues but if it seems to be more than that please get some help. I'm sure the weather doesn't help - all this grey weather and rain is getting everyone down.

Stiltwalker - Good luck getting the extra support for your children. For what it's worth I think getting in touch with PALS is a good idea.

Sorry if I have missed anyone and ((hugs)) to all those in need.

Having written all this I've just seen the time - got to go and get DD to Brownies! Hope to get back online later.

    Evie xx

Mrs L, I used to give garlic to my pooches until not that long ago, and then read about garlic and thought ooops...I'm glad Docky is doing well, I am jealous of him giving slurps to others. :)

Fuddle, I just got my AF order and thought of you as a bubble of excitement ...well bubbled. I ordered 2 bottles of mojito mix, (well not just that!) and the bottles although plastic are very pretty, here's the link...in case anyone is ordering anyway and wants bottles for the elderflower drinks. :) edit, here's the link http://www.approvedfood.co.uk/?pid=46739

I am feeling rough now, went to bed for a nap and I'm hallucinating again. Had a great big spotty dog licking me with quite a slurp, I actually felt like I had saliva on me. At least it's better than spiders and reptiles.

Ivyleaf so glad the exam went well. I understand about the memory as mine has detiriorated (sp) in the last 2-3 years I can't study anymore because I don't retain things. Oh and great minds think alike regarding the trolley. :)

    GreenT, helloooooo. :)

Evie, thanks, they've told DD it may be another 3 weeks, so she is getting very down.
