I all been missing for a couple days looking after my sister, went back to hospital this morning she as two breaks and two fractures in her arm. She does not like having to rely on any one, so we have had a few words this morning. Told her I am only concerned and if she doesnt want my help I will go home, so she told me to go.

Very cold and dark here already, hate listening to the news its always bad never any good news.

'incredibly serious weather' oh mardywotsit and everybody up there. Keep safe for goodness sakes! I'm just over the border so guess it will be bad here too but not on the scale as what you're going to have to go through.

What the heck does 'act now' mean.

As a serious point when I get home I'm going to:
change the batteries in our head torches
make sure my mobile is fully charged (and laptop too)
dig out our wind up storm torches and radio
try and find our old trangea stove

So if we have a power cut we can see what we're doing and get a hot drink.

Any other suggestions what we should do?

Morning all well I am at work and just sneaking on. Off tomorrow and plan to have a sort out in the freezer and the cupboards. I can do a rabbit but don't really like birds, all thanks to my Dad could even do a deer if I had to LOL.

Myself and DH did do a deer in the summer.

A workmate of DH saw it hit on his way in so picked it up and brought it, Dh then gutted and hung it and a few days later we set and skinned and butchered it.
Lovely meat for a few hours work.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

Just been to see Mum, no ergonomic pillow haul this week, she took the advice from MSE and bought a feather one and is as happy as Larry with it :T:T:T She got me 2 chickens off the market which are in the oven now, with the piece of beef I got last night from Mr T (cooked in sc now browning off) so thats all the constituents of Christmas dinner - rest already frozen. In her job as a mercenary for the salvation army she managed to buy me a bag of cotton yarn and various warm hooded tops for in the house. I do hope she stays fit and keeps volunteering there because she buys really good stuff.

We had a sample of the weather on the trip over to Mums, rain, hail, rainbow and really strong winds  Its quite scary on the motorway and am happy to be home. Have made sure she is stocked up till Christmas and she has been adding to her stash with baking ingredients, I am impressed with her - she loves hearing about the advice you all give on here and at 81 she adapts very well.

Off to snarfle a few of the choccies she got us before OH eats them all :rotfl:

Jeepers  I hope everyone will be OK through this as it sounds alarming. I'm jolly cold down here in Wiltshire, but I'm made of very soft stuff & don't do cold!

Act now - hmmm, not sure. I've dipped in & out of the various preparing for winter threads, & only this morning was hurridly safety pinning a fleece offcut to the bottom of my front door curtain that isn't quite long enough. Most of my curtains are now lined with Ikea fleece :rotfl:

I was going to recycle my cardboard box mountain but then thought that they would come in handy for putting down on the hall lino when the weather is really foul. See, I am learning.....

Have got salt & a shovel handy (not in the shed) just in case,, & spare candles, matches, torches etc - although I'll be fine in a power cut on my own as I can get round with little vision. I just fall over the darn kids when they come home with all their detritus :D

Kimsmum - best wishes. Maybe your sister feels a bit like I do as I often "need" help with hospital trips etc. yet I hate the having to need it IYSWIM. I know (on an intellectual level) that the person offering to help doesn't mind helping, but it still bothers me & I hate that I can't usually return the favour. For me it is all about being dependent. However if I was helping "me", then that wouldn't bother me at all (if you can follow that!).

Tea is leftover suprise, so I'm going to spend this evening knitting & watching TV with proper cocoa when I've wrapped some pressies to post. Bliss.

Keep warm everyone, especially North of the border.
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...

We spent the middle of the day stacking logs up in the garden, and my the wind was strong and cold :(... but on the up side we now have a proper logpile ! Not the best I have ever seen, a passing badger could knock it over with a sneeze, but it will do for now.

When we came in we were glowing warm, but sitting here with no heating on I am freezing. Looking forward to a nice hot bath.

Here's hopling that everyone keeps safe in the coming couple of days, the weather does seem to have changed with a vengence. Not sure what 'act now' means either, I think I'd be burrowing under a duvet with a big bag of sweeties and a good book!
