Well, no emailed admissions letter from the hospital despite the secretary's promise, I'll wait until the post comes just to be sure then I suppose I'll have to phone again. Can someone tell me please, why I feel guilty chasing them up when it's NOT my fault and I DO need the letter (how else will I Know when to stop eating/drinking, what time to turn up and which ward to go to?).
Do we have a marzipan expert on this thread? I've just found half a packet that I opened last Christmas and didn't finish. It has been stored in it's original packet with a clip to keep it closed. It has been in a dark cool cupboard for the past year - note to self, tidy cupboards more often!!!, and it has a use by date of Feb 2012. I can't see anything on the package that says use within thingummy days of opening. It looks and smells OK - any advice welcome as I would really hate to waste it

If there's no mould on it and it doesn't taste funny, I'd eat it. The worst that would happen is it'd be a bit dry. You can keep an iced and marzipanned fruit cake for years, so it's a pretty longlasting stuff.
And now I want some sweetiesSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Grey Queen - THANK YOU!!!!!! :smileyhea I have copied that into Word and will have another look at it when Himself does his Elmer Fudd thing over the fields0

We do have an emergency fund available for such eventualities but it isn't very big. The absolute max we would be able to spend is £400. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, reliable, inexpensive replacement please? The old one was an LG and it lasted 8 years 2 months, which doesn't seem very much to me. Before that we had a Candy which I think clocked up about 14 years, but memory may be a bit dodgy on this.
Meanwhile mil has kindly offered the use of her machine, so will be lugging our dirty washing round there later.
Hi hornetgirl - have a look at boot appliances online - I got my washer/dryer from them & my fridge/freezer. My washer/dryer was £220 cheaper from there than Argos. I also got advantage card points too. My washer/dryer (only brought because late OH had to have fluffy towels and there was no room in previous kitchen for a separate TD) is a hotpoint, but I loved my previous indesit but I couldn't find a washer/dryer with a big load wash, so I brought the hotpoint (7kg of washing, great because I'm on a meter and can get more in a load, so less loads needed).
Have a look on the shopbot shopping thingy on the shopping part of MSE website. £400 sounds more than enough. (I think currys had a candy washing machine for £299), also don't forget cashback websites too, they might have codes for free delivery/collection of your old WM

Taurusgb - I am given all that information at my pre-op assessments, it's never in the letter, so I wouldn't worry about it. As the pre-op session takes 3-4 hours there is plenty of time to ask questions and they give you lots of bits of paper.0

Thank you. I didn't even realise Boots sold appliances online!
The post about using Nectar points for a Henry also made me think that maybe I could do something with the Tesco vouchers I've got stashed away. Hmm, a day of research coming on methinks.0 -

It's absolutely not your fault the hospital admin is messing up, and there is no way you should feel guilty. Look at it this way - you are being incredibly helpful to them. Imagine the waste of resources if you turned up and they couldn't do the operation because you'd eaten too recently or if you turned up late cos you didn't know which ward to go to. YOU ARE DOING JUST FINE:)
And marzipan - I used some a few weeks ago that I'd opened and resealed last Christmas and its use by date was Sept 2011. It was absolutely fine - I just cut the bit nearest the open end of the packet off as it had dried out a tiny bit.
Off to MrS soon for their value t-bags and also to see if they have any cheap flannels. Looking forward to my facial this evening:rotfl:
Have a good day all.0 -
I've emptied some of my evening primrose capsules (unfortunately they're mixed with cod liver oil too - I shall be a real fish wife! :rotfl:) in with evoo
so I too am looking forward to my facial later :j I've sourced some castor oil for 100ml for £3.40 does that sound about right? I'm not buying yet but for future reference.

Oh thank you SO much, I'll try and stop worrying then (about that particular aspect anyway) I've only been in as a day case for operations in that past few years and everything was in the letter, so that's what I expected this time. Different and much bigger hospital this time though
