I second using milk for chilli burns. If you suffer when eating curry have a glass of milk on the table. I can't remember the science but it works.
Oil is also very good instead of shaving creams etc.
It is very wet and windy here and after reading Mardathas' post I think I will have to get some milk in the freezer.
greenbee thank you for mentioning rosehip oil. I googled how to make it and came up with this easy method.0 -
Morning all.
What a cold, soggy and grotty day. I'm flippin' perished and we don't have the snow here yet. I'm turning into a wuss.
Thanks for the olive oil tip. definately going to try this. In my 40's and still get spots.....grrrrrr.Can recommend Nettle risotto, made it earlier this year with what we had left from picking for nettle beer. It was a bit like a cross between kale and spinach and i think very high in iron as we all had quite a glow after we'd finished!! :cheesy:
Nettle beer sounds interesting. Do you have a link for the recipie. Just starting on my journey into beer making.
Off to Ald1's later to get some grit stuff. They are selling 10kg back for 4.99. It's the clear stuff, not the orage stuff which I always manage to tread all over the house.
Mardatha. Thats a horrible forecast. Makes me want to hibernate with tea and bourbons.
Have a good day everyone. Keep warm and well.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Good Morning all,
yes the weather here is cause for concern - am just heading out down the coast but will turn back if too bad - parts are right by the sea and it's always windy at best. We have a lot of black ice as well, as the snow is melting but temps are very low - snow coming back with a vengeance on friday. OH determined we're travelling further north for a "holiday" on friday - i'm not convinced - we shall see.
have a good day,

Beccjte - I had an incredible tooth ache when we moved that my dentist gave me really low antibiotics for which didnt work, he refused to see me until all the tablets were gone even though it was obvious they werent working. I collapsed and was taken to a walk in centre who transferred me straight to hospital, they were excellent and gave me two sets of much stronger antibiotics and wonderful painkillers!! I cried when the doctor left the room and re-appeared with water and painkillers, the relief was incredible especially as they worked almost immediately. The hospital was very clear that if the dentist cant or wont see you its always better to get seen by a doctor as there are real risks in leaving it.
How horrible that must have been for you!..
I'm quite sure I don't need antibiotics. It is a big filling that fell out and probably left the nerves exposed.
So it will be a root canal treatment I guess.. But i looked it up yesterday to see how much it would cost and it it's easily over 300 euro!!
I think I'll just have the dentist take the tooth out as that only costs 20... (well 50 including the numbing shot).. crazy stuff huh?
I am taking pain killers (paracetamol with Codine) and they are helping somewhat. I've also stuck a piece of Clove in the hole and that's working a treat. I'll manage untill tomorrow.
Thank you all so much for your caring words.0 -
Thanks GQ. I'm a bit more on form today. Sometimes just get a bit annoyed with early-onset-decrepitude!
Have at least managed a few bits in the freezer towards Chrimbob. The tree I put up yesterday though looks like I decorated it with my eyes shutSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I will give it a go, thanks Frugal. So this will work for dry skin too?
The OH says I am a marketing mans dream. I lurrrrvvvveeee my pots.I actually have very good but dry skin so this will certainly be interesting. I also have had a facial religiously for about the last 15 years, once a month. My cosmetics and girlie stuff is where I spend my most money, along with clothes.

Thanks GQ
On the tights front, I bought some 100 denier black ones in Primani about 2 years ago and they're still going strong. Think they were about £2 for three pairs.
Off to a different town for work today and need to scour their 99p/Pound shops for some plastic cereal containers to keep the dried cat food in. I think after the EVOO talk I'll see if I can get some of that and some flannels too!0 -
Aaaaaarrrgggh, the washing machine went kaput last night. Online searching suggests that the cost of the repair won't be worth it, so looks like it's time for a new one
We do have an emergency fund available for such eventualities but it isn't very big. The absolute max we would be able to spend is £400. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, reliable, inexpensive replacement please? The old one was an LG and it lasted 8 years 2 months, which doesn't seem very much to me. Before that we had a Candy which I think clocked up about 14 years, but memory may be a bit dodgy on this.
Meanwhile mil has kindly offered the use of her machine, so will be lugging our dirty washing round there later.0 -
Get Rid of the little ££££££££££££££££££ pots!!!
Effects of R0accutane are grim aren't they? I used to have to smear vaseline over my whole face, even when I was at the pub... Was never without a big pot of Vaselineand a bright red face too
Luckily I have a fabby BF at the time who didn't care :A
Yep redlady, exactly that!
OK, to reply to all... This is how I started, with no knowledge and before research...
I had awful skin... Am a qualified massage therapist and was using Avocado oil with lavender and rose on my clients... Liked the feel of it... Used it on my face to soothe.... worked a treat...
Carried on using it... Experimented with Evening Primrose Oil and Vitamin E capsules... both were a bit thick, but had good results.
Later found out that other people were using the Oil Cleansing Method with Olive Oil... Didn't have olive oil so used sunflower oil.... Great results! Have never used castor oil (as per the usual prescribed method of OCM but will try it at some point)
Moved on to EVOO - great results but no different to avocado or sunflower... Sounds better tho!!!
So yes, rub oil (any of those!) into face and neck, leave if possible (tonight I left for over half hour but have done a lot longer, and have also done only 2 mins) then use hot wet face cloth to wipe off....
Done!!!
Easy, cheap (er) than chips and the best facial I ever had.... And I am a therapist!!!!!!
Thinking of offering Evoo treatments in the new year!!!
Science bit.... Oil will mix with and dissolve other oil... hot wet cloth wipes it away..... Expensive solvent/soap based cleansers = stripping the skin = confused skin = problems.... My theory, and am sure there are other theories but I only speak from experience.
If you think about it.... Mix Oil (say skin oil) with water and what do you get, separation... If you mix oil with oil... you just get more oil... easy to wipe away with a hot facecloth.
This is by no means scientific, but browse the web and ask the questions.... Then ask yourself why you spend £££££££££££s on facial treatments
PS... It will remove the most stubborn of waterproof mascara too!!! An all round winner!!!
I do hope that helps someone xx
I've been getting down about not being able to buy cleanser, toner and moisturiser etc.I have been using Aldi face wipes as they remove eye make up too but I get spots with them. I'm also using a body moisturiser on my face as I have ran out of facial moisturiser..... so I am in a bit of a pickle with my skin care routine. Why does everything run out together?!
I'm going to empty out bottle of body moisturiser (a waste I know) so I can put some olive oil into that tube and know exactly what is in there. I am 'blind as a bat' without my glasses so I fear I will do something similar to the chilli oil incident - ouch!
Great to read that some of you like the tights idea. I'm sure my grandma wore her skirts more than a couple of days too as there's many a time there was no pleats left in them. Needs must. I get that.
Also my fil's partner swears by drying off after bath or shower with a flannel. She says it does the job just as well, dries out quickly and takes a tiny space in the wash pile/machine. I have to admit I haven't tried it as I like a big towel wrap around moment getting out the tub but it's there should energy costs become unmanageable or washing/drying breakdown.
Freezing today. I had my sheepskin daft hat on this morning, for the school run. It irritates me how the 'yummy mummies' in their cars look me up and down. Don't get me wrong, I am no scruff but I have a 30 minute each way walk and it's cold. I get well wrapped up and don my wellies. Seems that attracts the look up and down treatment. I try to ignore but doesn't make me stop wanting to poke their judgemental bots with a pointy stick :rotfl:
No word on the job DH went for and giving up hope... oh well, kepp on plodding on.0 -

After years of having posh vacuums (spelling?) including a Dyson and recently a Sebo which was much better but even my dds moaned about how heavy it was to carry upstairs - thanks to your post ages ago - I now have a henry!!!!!!:j
Tried to convince DH of the idea but he was very dubious especially since we have had to replace lots of kitchen big appliances. Then I had a brainwave and went to the big Sainsburys, grabbed the only henry in the store (reduced by £30 to £89 instead of £119) used nectar points and staggered to the car with it proudly!
DH's face was a picture till I pointed out it cost me the actual cash total of £14.95
We need to go to Morrison's later as I want bread and milk and meat for the freezer as weather looks bad today and forecast is worse for later in the week. Lunch will be home made individual lamb and veg pie which I baked yesterday. Have chicken in fridge so might make enchiladas tonight and see if family greet that with any enthusiasm.
My nose looks like Rudolph's as family have passed on their colds so want to make an effort and get more basics before cold and weather gets worse.
Beccatje
Have you tried dabbing the tooth with a few drops of whisky to numb it? It helped me years ago when I had a bad abcess.
