Just as Greyqueen struck lucky with her BM I thought my trusty panny was dying. Yesterday it produced a lop sided brick instead of a loaf. Tried again today - same result :(

So tonight I checked the manual and the prices of new ones. Before placing an order I decided to check the ingredients - yeast dated September ......... September 2010:eek: Both loaves were baked with the same yeast:eek: - problem solved - phew! The rest of my yeast is well in date so this little sachet must have been moving from box to box for ages :rotfl: So my ingredients are in and I will sort out how to set the timer (never done that before). Lunch is saved!

Incidentally has anyone tried to bake a very small loaf in a bread maker - my lowest recipe uses 400g flour and because there's only me that's a bit big. I was thinking of halving the ingredients to produce a flatter loaf that would give me "half-slices" IYSWIM?

  • Yipee Argos came up trumps. Took teasmade back and explain how it liked to spilt the boiling water all over the place, so girl checked receipt and said you bought two is it both you are bringing back so said no just the one, so she said ok do you want a replacement so I took a deep breath and asked if its possible instead of a replacement could I have the car starter that was £15 dearer, so she went and had a word with her manager and came back and said yes. So showed her which one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7402852/Trail/searchtext%3ECAR+STARTER.htm and we paid the extra, then I thought about the extra cover and asked the cost £14.99 but it turned out I had earned a £5 gift card for buying the car starter, so with that we only had to pay another £9.99 for the extra cover, so at least I know I will have it for three years, I always take out argos extra cover as they are so good at replacing things, but admit never asked if I could change item for something else. So am very happy, we want it for the car yes, but also as back up if electric goes down as can charge up mobiles, mp3s, kindle, portable dvd player can run on the 12v socket - it has two of them and there is the mini fridge, lights and could even run portable digital tv on it as it has a normal power socket. I think if I had not bought two teasmade at first they might not have done the swap, well I will never know, I cannot believe I actually asked, but that's all about being a MSE so very happy.

I never ever take out cover on items like that. IMO a product should last 3 years easily and if something broke in that time I would return it and argue my point.

Took a TV back when it was 2 years old... warranty was 1 year... I explained that the warranty had well and truly expired but that I expected a TV to last longer than 2 years.... MrT agreed and checked the price way back then... And I got a new, even bigger TV than I had before which is still going 2 years later, and if it packs up, its going back!!! :D

    Hello all

Went to Mr T's tonight to look for bits to put in a hamper for one set of grandparents, decided against that when I found a jumper for DG for half price and then found one for my DN, anyhoo I digress.

Claude cat food that I buy for my 4 boys has gone up from 1.99 for 12 sachets (they don't like food from tins, most of it goes to waste so its more economical to buy the sachets) to 2.39 !!!!! So when I make my bi-monthly pilgrimage to Aldi where their 12 sachets are still 1.99 (fingers crossed). I also boobooed majorly with frozen fruit - their discount brand has been 1.39 for 500g of mixed fruit, they had discount brand frozen raspberries in new packaging for 1.39 great I thought, until I got home and realised there is only 300g!!!! Do I feel like an idiot for falling for such a dirty trick.

On a more positive note I managed to get 5kg of basmati rice for 4.00, it was located in the 'world foods' section in my store, thinking about it I wished I'd brought 2 packs. 1kg of the same rice was 1.39. I also added to my pasta stockpile by buying 4 more packs at 25p for 500g

    GQ- congrats on Homer

Don't know but it shouldn't be a problem as the box of ten sachets I've just started is dated June 2012. When I get to the last double sachet in the box I use one and put the last one in the new box - the offender must have been moved and moved and moved to be that out of date.

I haven't wasted the lopsided bricks - one has been processed into breadcrumbs and is in the freezer and the other has been cut into chunks to have with soup or to mop up sauces etc. It's all edible just very very heavy :rotfl:

Yes you can and it is the BEST thing to do with it. I always keep my dried yeast on the freezer and use from frozen works a treat and my yeast NEVER goes off :D

Yes I read an article on the bbc website, should be interesting viewing. Forgot to mention icing sugar was 1.69 for 1kg but 49p for 500g - so I brought 2 of them - 1kg for 98p, by the looks of it people had brought the 1kg pack (shelf was almost empty) but there was loads of the 500g packs left.

I hope my own stupidity helps prevent others from falling from the same trick *takes one for the team, falls on sword* :rotfl:
