I can't remember which thread the mad pie ladies live in, is it this one? (I follow them all so they all get muddled in my mind.) If it is, Morrisons have got your "Fray Bentos Pies 475g (Excludes Mince & Onion)" on for £2 and BOGOF. No good for me as I'm vegan, but I thought I'd pass it on in case it's of any use.

That NZ news is crazy. I thought proprietary seeds were bad enough, but all seeds? Horrifying.

The mad pie ladies are on the Preparing for winter thread ;)

I've seen reports from US, farmers are being sued for thousands of $$$ and in many cases being put out of business by the companies growing GM crops (Del Monte is a big one) if any of the gm plants escape into the other farmers field - windblown or self seeded, makes no difference; big businesses are determined to take control over what food is grown. There was a big campaign for saving seeds a while ago as more and more seeds that are sold are the F1 hybrids (or whatever) and you can't use seed from them the following year :(

I had a hospital appointment this morning and the car park and paths hadn't been de-iced. Are they looking for more patients? False economy.

Morning all, if anyone else is up at this time you have my sympathies. I haven't even got company - pets have scoffed a very early breakfast and have gone back to bed :(

Ah well, at least there will be plenty of time to put the BM on for sandwiches at lunchtime - still haven't worked out the timer thingy :o

I had plans to have a go at Weezl's Cheap Family Recipes planner but after inventorying my freezer and stockpile I've had to change my plans - let's just say that food price increases are not going to be affecting me for quite some time - about 3 months  Quite proud though that my stashes can be turned into decent menus instead of being too long on some stuff and too short on others.

    I'm rambling - that's 3 hours sleep for you.

  • Morning Lizzy, I've been up since 3:20, all I've managed to do is make a cuppa, do some knitting & make the packups for lunch.

Hi Hester - I've had 2 cups of coffee and done a bit of reading, so you're way ahead of me :) No commitments today though, so no rush to do anything.

PS the Mad Bushcrafters say don't eat urban pigeons cos they dine on vomit and Cheesy Wotsits.:p Woodpigeons are good, tho.

Mmmm, yummy ... I have a cupboard full of cheesy wotsits, no beggar will eat them as they 'smell like sick!'. Might take them into the town later and chuck em at the pigeons :o

The demeating I can stand but this was definitely TMI

Feeling more human now - washed, dressed and I've got cinnamon and sultanas in my porridge.

No, it was the vomit/Wotsits bit that was TMI. I've watched too much Hugh F-W to be upset by boning a pigeon. :D

    Morning

Freeeeeeezing cold here but bright again. I'm trying to think of anything that needs washing while the drying is good.

I'm getting a bit twitchy waiting for the hospital admittance letter for my operation next week. I was notified of the date by telephone well over a week ago and have a pre-operative assessment for this Thursday, but I really need the admittance letter as it will contain important information that I REALLY NEED TO KNOW. I have no complaints with the medical attention I have received but the administration input is rubbish. I've already had to chase on three separate ocassions and every time it has been because a letter hadn't been typed or my notes had been in the wrong place.:mad: I am stressed to the limit and this is about to drive me over the edge.

Think I'm going to tidy the freezer today and try and make some sense of what is where - move all veg into one drawer, meat in another, that sort of thing. I swear it all moves around when I'm not looking.

edited to add something positive:- found a very large jar of mincemeat I made for last Christmas and didn't use (I went slightly over the top in the amount I made as I was so pleased with myself never having made it before) It is in fine shape too!

GQ, thankyou. Really. I can do wabbits with my eyes shut but have never done a pigeon, my son or husband used to do all that. Pigeon pie is NICE.
Tell me how the mad bushcrafters lit the fire?
