That's the problem. They are not consistent. Apparently, they have 3 levels of store and price accordingly. So if you live in an affluent area you will be stuffed at level 3. In this Tescos the value range is few and far between. Yet go 10 miles down the road and it's a whole new ball game.
Gosh that explains why the Mr T in the village is so expensive, there used to be one in the shopping centre that is a couple of miles away which is right by a big out of town housing estate that used to be all council houses, now mainly private so prices in the shopping centre have gone up and the Tescos there was reasonable, but then they closed and built a big store on the grounds of one of the old mansions up in the village and to be honest I find them even more expensive than MR S and even Ocado or Waitrose. Its situated in the really expensive part of the village, all mansions with staff on the whole. I always wondered why now I know why, thanks for explaining. I rarely if every go there because of the prices, could never understand how people were able to pay so little for things at their Mr T as although its only an extra half mile on from MR S I just feel its not worth even that extra petrol for the odd bargain I might get. I keep saying village, we are all actually part of the city now but as its less than 100 years since village became part its still referred to as the village and still looks like one although now surrounded by houses rather than farms although still some round the corner from me and thanks to wealthy families leaving their grounds to the village lots of lovely green parks that cannot be built on, and their houses are mainly nursing homes, although as mentioned Tesco managed to talk their way into permission to build on on.
The next nearest Mr T is also in an affluent area, so that explains why its prices are similar to one in village, I would have to go many miles right into the city to find one in a poorer area, definitely not worth the Petrol.
I wonder if this applies to other shops, someone was saying on forum they were paying 26p for tinned tomatoes in Farm F**ds so I popped to ours in shopping centre yesterday and they are 38p each or 3 for £1 exact same as all the other shops there like B&M, C**l Trader.
I am going to Lidl next Monday as I want to pick up the Light alarm clock and a few other specials so going to have a good look at what food they sell, its miles away. Only ever been when they have had a special I want and never looked round at the food they sell, not properly, so will definitely do so as they are in what is classed as a poorer area ( gosh I sound like a middle class snob ) so be interesting to see what their prices are like. I won't go shopping before then except for milk and see if it would be worth paying the petrol to go there every week or so. Hubby luckily is off on Monday, he had 3 days holiday still left to take before end of year so they have just given him next 3 Mondays off so that means we can be there when shop opens as have noticed with the specials they only get a few of the really good bargains and usually by time I have got there - afternoon or next day they have gone and I want one of those clocks ( £30) to see if it helps as cheapest I have seen one anywhere else similar is £86. Also want to get some of the sheets and the fireguard. Having got the car starter as a replacement for teasmade it means the money I was going to spend on it on Saturday can be used to buy these extra things in Lidl, so very, very pleased .
Its funny Dr was only saying to me yesterday afternoon its good I have the biobulb and SAD lamp but one of those alarm clocks that lighten up the room before you wake up would likely to help me as well, and I told her at moment its not something I can budget for, then when I get home the Lidl email has arrived and they have one on offer next week.
So have to reign in my usual habit of as fast as money is in bank I take it out and spend it as we have more than enough in to feed us till Monday - will ask hubby to pick up Milk so I do not need to go near shops and spend. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Thanks GQ, perhaps soup or beer might be an easier option after all! Big up the neolithic chap or chapess who invented that process, no gloves then I suspect (errm, prob a chapess then as chaps are not known for putting up with that much physical discomfort :rotfl:!)
Will investigate the beer option, I have heard it to be a nice quaff, and I like the irony of refreshing the horny-handed son of the soil (OH) employed in said slashing with beer made from the very object of his toil!

Interesting about Tesco having 3 levels of shops. If you shop online are you charged the top level? I make a list using Mysupermarket and take it with me and I have noticed that the prices are usually the same as online. That's using a big Tesco Extra so I suspect it's toplevel prices.
Or does my supermarket have the ability to change prices according to your postcode? I know if you look at the Lidl's website they ask for your postcode before you can get onto the site so presumably we are only seeing 'affluent South East' pricesIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Did anyone see the programme last night on Channel 4 about the millions of houses standing empty and boarded up whilst there are people on the housing list desperate for somewhere to live? Presented by George Whats-is-name who was pretty passionate about it all. (Part two tonight I think).
That was my "shouting at the telly" moment last night and, after the programme about the supermarkets, I'm now in danger of losing my voice.
Re supermarket programme: I do think they would have been better sending Carol Vordeman to do it - at least she could have done the maths (or asked anyone on here who could have told them a thing or two)!!!Normal people worry me.0 -
I have no idea about shopping online. I only knew about the 3 levels as a woman I work with used to work in Tescos and told me about it. I was having a whinge that in the store 10 miles down the road they had lots of value ranges and seemed cheaper than the one where I work. She then explained why it is so and that it is not common knowledge. I wonder why?!?!!
But to be honest the whole Tesco experience is just horrible. I hate the place now and the bully boy tactics they use on the farmers. I only go in there if I have to0 -
Morning
I'm getting a bit twitchy waiting for the hospital admittance letter for my operation next week. I was notified of the date by telephone well over a week ago and have a pre-operative assessment for this Thursday, but I really need the admittance letter as it will contain important information that I REALLY NEED TO KNOW. I have no complaints with the medical attention I have received but the administration input is rubbish. I've already had to chase on three separate ocassions and every time it has been because a letter hadn't been typed or my notes had been in the wrong place.:mad: I am stressed to the limit and this is about to drive me over the edge.
!
Sending you lots of hugs, take a deep breath and then phone the hospital and ask them where that letter is. Ask if you can collect it when you go for your pre op check on Thursday.
Well done on the mincemeat keeping so well. I admit usually buy mine and although trying to be more OS, this year as wasn't sure if I would be up to making it, but actually feel energetic enough to day to do so - although should have actually gone into the city with friends today to have a look round and buy some material for new cushions covers and not that energetic so friend going to see if she can pick me up some. Have all the ingredients in to make HM Mincemeat so we shall see if I can do so.
One thing I don't have any covers for the jars just the lids will that be enough to keep them fresh - although do have my 3 brand new Kilner jars but wanted to use them for marmalade, bought a tin of Seville oranges to have a go making it, doing it the lazy way in the BM ( my last effort many years ago was a rather messy disaster). Its when I look at recipes they always say put the waxed paper over jar then the lid.
Try to stay calm, I know not easy with an op on the horizen.

Don't think the online prices at t3scos are the highest ones, it seems cheaper than the T3SCO express in the town centre, and about the same as the superstore which is on the edge of a housing estate about 3 - 4 miles from the town centre.Unofficial Debt Free Wannabee.

Thanks GreyQueen, it brought back memories of doing bushcraft courses many, many moons ago. I admit I have forgotten most I learnt
way back then, although still have books and some equipment from that era ( museum pieces now). We used to go camping a lot in the wild way back, don't think you can do that so much now, we used to just find a good spot and pitch a tent, usually not seeing another soul the whole time we were there and we had great fun, but different doing it because you want to than if you had to.
