gardenia101 - I used 300g flour for a loaf this morning and it has turned out just right for size. I used 1/4 wholemeal and will have another go using 1/2 wholemeal as I think that will make for a slightly smaller and denser loaf that is easy to slice into something thinner than doorstops :D. Just used the small/400g programme and adjusted quantities of salt and sugar and water but not yeast or oil. I've always preferred small loaves so this is turning out to have been a good experiment to try.

Had a long walk this morning and got the best of the sunshine/frost. After lunch it will be time for some creative furniture rearranging re my "office" corner so my paperwork ends up on the left not the right - you'd think I would have worked this out ages ago being left-handed :rotfl:

Katieowl - like VJsmum I did not really enjoy my first term at uni that much and couldn't wait for the Christmas break. But after that it got a lot better so hope it's the same for your DD.

Can anyone pass me some virtual sweeties to cheer me up?

Bit miserable and not feeling too festive. My nerves have been strung on a knife edge thanks to a bug issue and I seem to be falling apart physically. There's a strange patch of eczema on my back, my hands are very bad (getting arthritis just like mum did) in particular my two index fingers, which is a shame because I can't poke anything and I've got vertigo (BPPV) again only there's no point in going to the docs since I react nastily to the tablets. At least the 30 quid a month I'm spending on the acid reflux pills is actually working....Oh, and the tumour in my leg hurts.

I think the reason I don't mind leaving my hair to go grey, even though I'm only 33, is that frankly, as far as ageing goes, that's the least of my worries.

Sorry for whining, especially to those who have it much worse. I do try and keep my mouth shut in real life, and mostly in the virtual. It's just surely I should be able to bend over to pick something up without wondering if A) I'll be able to stand up without falling over or B) My hands will work well enough to pick it up at all.

    Group hug?

Trouble with DD is this is final year (of 4) and they are all heaping work on her at once. I told her to talk to her tutor, which she's going to do. Sixth form did this to DS, each teacher insisted their work was 'most' important, they do not communicate, and all the deadlines are same day! :( Something has to give, some 'unmarked' work needs to hold off 'til the Xmas Hols.

    Kate

Oh GREAT she just sent me this:

"Got a message back from the tutor, she basically said that she can't 'sign me off from work' and if I choose not to do it its my own choice.
And basically just to 'do it' "

Wouldn't mind if she wasn't RACKING UP A LOT OF DEBT for this degree...but HELLO if you are charging then I think you should expect to provide support and 'customer service'

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

No apologies needed - you moan away if it helps. I can offer you a virtual share of the HUGE slice of cake I am about to eat and some of the maltesers from the (shhhhh!!!! bought for Christmas) box I have on the table next to me.

Some days life just sucks doesn't it? :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Hope you feel better soon

Lets all have a dodgy group hug

    :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

    Might raise a smile

THis is probably not the time to say that i am a University Lecturer :o - my suggestion though would be to take the issue to her course director / head of school / dean in that order if there is no help forthcoming. Might depend on how long they have had to do the work.

ETA - Taurus beat me to the dodgy group hug - how funny that we both did 3!
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Thanks Taurusgb. Have a bit of my virtual baileys. It really is virtual since I'm not supposed to drink right now.

I'd better head for bed, I sure as heck won't feel better tired tomorrow.

    xx

I heard someone on the radio a couple of years ago when my daughter started uni that he regarded his time studying at university as "the most expensive library card he'd ever heard of." I see where he is coming from. We had a few miserable weeks in the summer when my daughter had work to do and needed to use a pc programme that is installed on her laptop by the geography dept at her uni. The programme stopped working as the uni hadn't renewed the licence. For 3 weeks we couldn't get hold of anyone, then when we did they said it couldn't be sorted out until after the start of the term...now she's stressed to the limit still trying to catch up on all the work she had to put second to catch up on work she should have been able to do in the summer. I feel your pain.

Yes I read an article on the bbc website, should be interesting viewing. Forgot to mention icing sugar was 1.69 for 1kg but 49p for 500g - so I brought 2 of them - 1kg for 98p, by the looks of it people had brought the 1kg pack (shelf was almost empty) but there was loads of the 500g packs left.

I hope my own stupidity helps prevent others from falling from the same trick *takes one for the team, falls on sword* :rotfl:

I do this all the time as I can never see the darn prices! Programme was interesting though - I'm very cycnical & even I was shocked!

Frugal - I admire your cojones with the freezer & hope your disguise is successful as I guess he'll remember you :D

Softstuff - life is just rubbish sometimes isn't it. I'll have a virtual Baileys with you & set the world to rights if you fancy it?

Am I allowed to say that I HATE Xmas? It is always such a difficult time with family "stuff" & I spend most of this month slowly going downhill, dreading the big day. My sympathies are with anyone else that hates it all too. I won't have my kids for NY eiher (at their Dads as I'm having them for Xmas) so I shall be having an early night with earplugs.

    Bah humbug, moi?
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...

Sending you big hugs and chocs out of the selection boxes I have for the gkids and some of the peanut brittle I made

I would consider buying something like this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8650751/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHealth+and+personal+care%7C14418350/c_2/2%7C14418350%7CMobility+aids%7C14418351/c_3/3%7Ccat_14418351%7CMobility+and+home+help%7C14418354.htm

I have been using one since I was in my early 30's since first attack of vertigo and I although I changed to a light weight model, like that one, ( first ones were rather heavy) I won't be without it, use it indoors and out ( rubbish blows into front and side garden and when its nice and I have a good day I go out to do my rubbish patrol) no more falling over.

You moan away if it helps, we can at least give you an ear if no other practical help

Lots of hugs and love winging their way to you :A

OOh virtual Baileys, that sounds nice, its many years since I had alcohol ( 3) but a virtual one would be ok.

Softstuff sorry to hear you so down in the dumps, hope you feel more like 'you' soon. I think you have plenty there to complain about hunny. My arthiritis is playing up probably due to the cold/damp and Im going to ignore it, after all my GP said it won't kill me - shortly after that comment I went in and she thought I was having a heart attack when in reality I had not slept for a week due to extreme pain which can cause high blood pressure etc!

So dodgy virtual hug back at you all :j
