Tonight's Panorama programme at 8.30 BBC1
"The Truth About Supermarket Price Wars....."
Should be interesting and they say that "nasty surprises" are revealed at the checkout....
We know!!!!! Its a constant battle to compare and remember prices constantly to be sure we are not being ripped off... which we often are, of course.
Should be interesting to watch.

I saw a clip on the 6 o'clock news & they sounded so surprised about it.
My son said Mum you've known that for years:rotfl:Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
There are still a lot of people who just put stuff into their supermarket trolleys without thinking, but it is not surprising with all the signs and the tempting displays of stuff, particularly at this time of year. Hopefully the programme will be of some help to those who are struggling to make ends meet. One life - your life - live it!0

Hopefully it will p*ss off the barstewards at the head offices as well as enlightening consumers:DTry to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0

Should be interesting but not sure if they'll concentrate on offers only or "everyday" rip offs too!
eg 200g jar of coffee more expensive than 2 x 100g ones, 1kg rice & pasta more expensive than 2 x 500g ones etc etc etc. It takes me ages to shop as I look at the prices on everything but I can see if you're in a hurry / have kids with you etc, it'd be really easy just to grab the big ones.
The other thing that really annoys me is how some of the tickets show a pack of x marked in £/kg and their own brand marked £/L etc as it's impossible to work out!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000

RFTA - that's a cunning trick, ain't it? . You have to have a degree in astro physics or summat to work out a comparative price. Even with a calculator it takes ages to work out the best value. It must be a deliberate policy, it happens so often.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

I'd like to think I was pretty wise to this, and I do a lot of research before actually stepping foot instore. I do feel for those who aren't able to work out whether they're being ripped off, or those who simply don't have the time.
Even as a person with (hopefully) a fairly with it brain, I struggle to work out when they price things in different ways (units/kg/100g). :mad:0 -
I am pretty cute on some of their general tactics but I am more than sure I have been done on pre packed stuff before now!
I am the one who is generally at the customer services desk though having a whinge about how much I have been conned! It makes me mad that not a month goes by when I don't have to have a flipping moan about the receipt being over cooked!
Truth is I haven't set foot inside a Tesco since September now - yes I feel pleased about it, because the amount of times they diddled me was untrue! I am even more savvy now about what I buy and with regard to meat I buy that in bulk from a butchers. Then that leaves the rest of the fruit and veg some of which I get from either Aldi or Lidl so actually what Sainsbury's truely does make out of me is not huge.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

On Saturday in Mr S they had an offer of 51 fairy dishwasher tablets for £8, I picked up what i thought was a bag but in fact turned out to be 80 tablets for £19.99:eek: Luckily I'd spotted it outside as i thought my bill was much higher than it should have been, and went back and swapped it. THe cashier also put through a pack of razor blades twice - so in all i had paid £17 more than i should have. I realise it was my fault for picking up the wrong bag but they were next door on the shelf and i just grabbed one. (Yes i know there are cheaper DW tablets but ours has just broken and the DW engineer said he wouldn't recommend anything else)I wanna be in the room where it happens0

I haven't had a chance to watch the programme yet but will do soon. I was really annoyed recently when I went to buy bacon.....it cost £1.98 per pack or as highlighted by a yellow shelf edge label, two for £4. The label was bright yellow and implied this was a special offer so was designed to make shopper think they are getting a good deal. The supermarket in question clearly think I'm stupid!
I also hate the fact that some products are sitting side by side, but for one the price is listed in grams, the other is listed in kilograms which makes it more difficult to compare costs. Most people can work it out, but some can't, some are too busy to do so, and others don't care.
Anyway, as this is more of a grocery thread than Old Style I'll move it over to the Food Shopping & Groceries board to see if you can get more replies.
