The problem is that its not just one thread, almost all turn out into a benefit bashing thread, can you imagine how hard it would be for the BGs to try to stop it all? I wonder whether closing down the whole section would be better. Its sad because its aim was to help people who needed it. But as attitudes turn country wide its played out on forums to a greater degree.
I know people who are so anti anyone on a any sort of benefits its almost like a witchhunt. Times they are a changing - and not necessarily for the better.

I dont go in there at all ever. But I know 99% of the bashers will live to regret their words. Which really cheers me up :)

I sometimes wonder if it's fear that makes people become so nasty. If they think it's possible to take action to prevent being poor and/or going on benefits, then they feel in control of their own destiny. However, life is unpredictable and things happen that can change your future without warning, as I know only too well. My mother's favourite saying was "there but for the grace of God" and although I am not traditionally religious I think that applies so often.

OTOH, some people are just nasty because they are nasty. Whatever your viewpoint there is no need to find scapegoats. Bullying is bullying whatever heading it comes under.

PIC:- Oh God! that's so frustrating! All that work!

Pah:- I had that last week, you have all my sympathy's it's a really rotten bug to get!

Byatt:- dreadful the thought of not having proper insurance abroad. I can still remember discovering my Mam didnt bother declaring her high blood pressure on her many jaunts! She was quite sniffy when I insisted on changing it...It all came down to cost of course!

Like most of you I read other threads on MSE. Can I say I have been dismayed and appalled at the negative and almost abusive posts on other threads that I have been reading recently. :(
People are really behaving in an astonishing manner. I think these threads are here to provide support to people who need help/encouragement and advice. Some of them are like this one 'chatty' and if that's what you need at that moment then why not? Others have become quite aggressive, with people expressing their contempt at other people problems and their inability to cope/deal with them.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the posters and lurkers here for their tolerance, and their ability to see that if it's posted it's not trivial to that person posting. Yes, sometimes it's not very OS, and yes, sometimes it descends into a good old moan, but thats fine, sometimes when you have to moan you just have to let go and do it.;)
Sometimes it's better to rant on here than rant at the nearest and dearest who is under fire. It gives you a chance to take a deep breath, which can be a good thing.
ME! quick tempered! I don't know what you mean! :rotfl:

So, THANK YOU, it's appreciated. :A

Thanks Meme, it's so helpful to know I'm not being silly. My ex can still affect my belief in myself... :A

It's often the same names too, it's as if they go on there for no other reason than to have a go at someone on benefits. The thing that baffles me the most is some of the bashers are in receipt of CTC or WTC themselves but see those on Job Seekers or ESA as below them and nothing more than scroungers. And if you try to point out that WTC or CTC are also benefits that are paid by the state they won't have it!

The Benefits board can be so helpful and there's some really knowledgeable people on there, I know I've had lots of help, but threads always seem to get spoiled by the "ivory tower" brigade.

I'm glad I am not the only one who feels like this. These threads are are great help, wether it's a financial question or how to fix the dishwasher. I don't think there is any need for the derision some posters are subjected to. I do like Mardatha's point of view. :rotfl:

Six hours to our week away. Guess who has the job of sorting all the clothes, food, extra chairs for the Grandkids, bedding and well, just about everything? Come to think of it, just add all Birthday cards and presents, all holidays stuff like tickets and accommodation, all Christmas food, presents, family visits. :p

Oh dear, perhaps I need a thread for all dogsbodys. Somehow I think it will have a large membership! :D

Meme many years ago my ex & I went on holiday with his brother & sister in law, we went for a fortnight. SIL had asked her hubby repeatedly for a list of what he wanted her to pack, he airily replied 'Oh just a shirt & a couple of pairs of pants' & refused to write a list.
So he spent the entire fortnight with just the clothes he wore for the journey, 2 spare pairs of pants & a dress shirt! He always provided a detailed list from then on!

Dipping in again to say that I ventured onto one or two of the other boards lately and soon wished I hadn't. Reminded me of behaviour in an overcrowded chicken run, when one bird is new/injured/sick or odd in some way. Sometimes it's lucky to survive the attentions of its peers & usually the ones just above it in the pecking order are the worst offenders; the exception being if it's really a no-hoper when the flock leader will usually despatch it swiftly to avoid it attracting predators. It also reminds me of some of the more interesting moments of my visit to heartland America a couple of years ago - the kindest, most open-hearted, welcoming & hospitable people in the world, unless you are down on your luck...

It'd be nice to think we're a little better behaved (or possibly just more rational) than chickens & it's the OS board & all you lovely people here that make me realise that we can rise above it.
