:D:D:D:D Couldn't decide which ones I loved the most (although the chocolate-eating one is making me laugh) so decided to use the whole lot of them.

Happy Easter everybody. I've been away from pooters for a few days as doing family-stuff but wanted to catch up with my "online family" and see what was happening in people's lives.

:o I miss the thread when I'm away. Not sure if I'm mad or sad but there you go............:o

Gotta fly, we have rellies here, so must put my social head on again. Hope everyone has a lovely day and if the downpour stops for tomorrow morning, we'll be going to TWO bootsales!

((((Big hugs and a Happy Easter to everyone)))))) GQ x

Docky, we thought Bessie should have won too, but we are very biased. :) She has her rosette on her collar and DD has taken a pic, so when I get the chance I will put the pic on here. She's had lots of treats and neckie scritches.

Gardenia, I don't think DD is on the guaranteed interview scheme.

It's all about ticking boxes. I know there is not supposed to be age discrimination, so they interview their quota and say no. I have seen some shocked faces at interviews when I've turned up and I've been told by nice friends I don't look like I'm late 50's. :D

That's why I'm trying the self employed route. I am the only person I know who will employ me. :rotfl:

Have a lovely break, and you Shegar...enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! :A

Hope everyone had a lovely day. How are you PAH?

GQ, I know what you mean about missing the thread. :)

Now we've started a new financial year - is it better or worse for you? Or maybe you don't know yet? We probably need to tighten the belts even further as a lot of people will have lost their tax credits. Our pensions went up, but so did the rent and then OH found that would pay tax on his - (that was interesting to watch. A very very RV exploding all over the house- he went on for 3 hours before his batteries finally ran out. I even learned some new swearywords) :D
So anybody with any ideas or solutions on Life in Tough Times, please jump in !

Not sure how it's going to affect us yet,OH is self employed which is always a worry.I'm cutting pennies where I can but I've noticed a definite lack of "whoopsies" in my neck of the woods - and small things like that make such a difference.I've discovered slow cooking and although my freezer is the size of a shoe box I've used it well:D
My elec & gas are on cards so I can keep a track of how much I'm using.

    Hello Everyone :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and that the Easter Bunny left suitable deposits :D

Well I'm back in Leicester after visiting the family for a few days. It was wonderful seeing everyone, but I'm glad of the break at home before we go back down south. Especially since DPIL's only toilet stopped working yesterday  with 11 of us in the house at the time! Thankfully they have keys to the church next door so we could make use of those facilities.
The kids from NZ (DH's cousin's children) are now looking so grown up although not as much as my two. They were very shocked at the size of DS2.
The only bug bear was cooking for everyone. DH's cousin says that her kids eat everything, which translates as "I want them to eat everything, so they will eat what they are given" That leads to the kids not eating at least two of the meals that I cooked. Next visit I'm talking to them one on one and finding out what they actually like. I don't mind cooking three different things if it means it actually gets eaten.

Today I'm tackling the laundry mountain. It's amazing how much laundry three days away can produce. I also need to do a stock up shop for fresh stuff and things for DS1 to make for himself when the rest of us go back down to the rest of the family. He has masses of revision to do for his GCSEs so we made the decision for him to stay at home alone for the first time. I've promise to limit my calls to once a day, but have arranged for friends to check in on him.

It sounds like DH might be stirring at last, so bye everyone xxxx

:) I'll have a bit more of an idea towards the end of the month when I've been paid, Mar. At the moment, I've had 2 years of tiny-pay-increases 0.5% (about 4 quid a month on the net) followed by 3 years of no-pay-increase-whatsoever so the prospect of getting to keep a bit more of my own money before income tax is taken off is quite exciting.

:p I'm expecting it to work out about a tenner a month which won't cover the increase in my rent but will at least slow the backward slide into Tough Times slightly..........I dig my heels in as hard as I can but you have to run faster to stay still these days, don'tcha think? Ooops, mixed metaphors there but I'm a bit dozy today.

I may be being dense but does any clever person know if the National Insurance threshold moves up in tandem with the income tax threshold so will we be paying a bit less on the NICs as well?

Today, I have persuaded Mum to try a trick I got from a friend's Mum; lay leftover beef in slices in a casserole dish and cover it with leftover gravy and warm thru in the over. It reprises the hot dinner very nicely.

:( Rain stopped play so no going to the 2 bootsales which were handily half a mile apart. I don't particularly need anything but second hand books and first hand jam are always on offer at one of them and I was looking forward to brushing the cobwebs off my wallet. Apart from giving 2 hours' pay to those grasping s0ds at National Express and adding a few pence to my Tesco till spit to add to the Stockpile, I've spent nowt in 4 days.

Will be bus-ing back to the city in a few hours and will have to touch base with SuperGran about neighbourhood gossip and pick up the reins of my life. Glad to have had some restful days and another 4-day week to look forward to.

Gardenia: Sealife was built over the site of the pub - but the pub was gone before then. Gt grandad was a boatman who diversified when the railways started taking over (as did his thirst) I think. All that area has been poncified now and is the place to be seen. Tre expensive to eat and drink around Brindley Place, nice though on a sunny day to be sat overlooking the canal though.
I was dragged up in Handsworth and remember those pubs well - only from a packet of crisps and a lemonade kinda way, of course.

We're both pensioners and our tiny increases are being eroded by the day. This coalition lot act as though they're doing you a favour with any allowance.
I'm getting a gang together to dig up Clement Atlee and his government, I reckon that was the last decent one we had!
    Normal people worry me.
