Morning all,
Been feeling deprived as I have been unable to get onto the forums for the last 24 hours. Internet was fine but every time I tried the forum it was Google Chrome cannot connect - although funnily enough, the main site was fine. So assumed the site was down for maintenance or summat. But still couldn't get on this morning
Well! I wasn't going to stand for that! so downloaded Firefox and straight in, no problem. So went back to Google Chrome just to check and lo and behold it had fixed itself. VERY strange.
Not v pleased with IT matters generally atm. DD2's laptop gave up the ghost yesterday. The laptop is fine but the screen was looking very pretty with lots of lovely colours - but usable it weren't. As she is just about to do her GCSEs it meant a new laptop. but that still left us with the difficulty of getting her old files off. We have an old monitor from a desktop but the connections have all changed (don't you hate it when they do that?)
The chap in John Lewis sold us a cable for connecting a laptop to a new style monitor and said we should be able to connect to a TV to use as a monitor. Could we heck! So I spent the entire evening googling only to find
you can use a laptop as a second monitor OR
you can use a second monitor with a laptop.
What you don't seem to be able to do is use a second laptop as a second monitor. Fortunately she has a friend nearby with a monitor we can plug into to download her files onto an external hard drive.
DD1's laptop did the same thing just after she went back to university last term. So clearly all things IT are out to get me/my bank balance. If I disappear for a while you'll know that they've succeeded. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Morning all. Have not caught up with the latest posts yet have been ill for last few days. Oh at work today so mum and dad here to sit with kids. Feel like crying as yesterday i got dd to prepare meals for next couple of days. She made huge pan of chilli enough enough for at least twenty portion and pan curry enough for ten portion. Dad has thrown all away because they don't do leftovers. Have no money until Saturday and dd at college so not able to cook. Means dad will end up buying junk food and i will be left with massive bill.
I would never walk into someone else's kitchen and throw food away. I cannot believe they would do this.
I was expecting it to last till Friday when dd is off to help me cook again.
Sorry for rant its been a long week.0 -

Oh Kidcat, what a blinkin nuisance - Hugs. Not surprised you've succumbed to the lurgy with all the hassle you've had recently - it always seems to get us when we are over tired doesn't it? I'm afraid I'd be telling Daddy dearest that the huge junk food bill was his problem after throwing away your lovely DD's cooking. Hope you're feeling better soon and manage to get sorted.
Bit manic here at the moment as DS has discovered locomotion. I won't call it crawling as it's a very strange technique - poor little sausage has obviously been watching his sister who is hypermobile as he's been trying really hard for the last 2/3 weeks and not getting very far as he doesn't bend like that! But he now seems to have landed on something halfway between his sister's odd bendy technique and and a more usual method although he is still going backward more often than forward! At least he'll be able to escape from her over enthusiastic hugging and kissing now! But I'm going to need eyes in the back of my head.
Been getting on with a bit of my patchwork and quilting which kind of hit the backburner for a while as I had a succession of OU assignments due, I' not just caught up but ahead at the moment so I've given myself a few evenings off and have now completed 6 blocks (from the 10 mags I've got so far) It might be a bit of an expensive way to do it but at least it means I'm actually motivated to do it, only been intending to start patchwork and quilting for over a decade now!!! so guess it's worth it. Rag rug is coming on slowly but may be done in time for next winter if I'm kicked!
This month is going to be the first that all the new payments come in at the right amount so will be able to calculate just what we have available then should be able to look in to some new activities for DD, maybe riding for the disabled as that would go a long way to promoting her balance and she loves animals and gets the car boot sorted so we can get the big pushchair in and out with less hassle. Need the renewal pack now for tax credits though as OH earned about 2k less than they had him down as and he's likely to earn a good 3k less than the estimated figure they're basing the new payments on as not only was that still based on last years figure he's also now given up OT on a Sunday since I got carers allowance for DD so he can give me more of a break.
Not surprising that when I was on a carers website a couple of weeks back I could tick all bar 1 of the boxes for signs of stress! Funny thing is I don't feel stressed, it's so gradual I think I'd only notice if it went away! Mind you if I din't have all this to do I'd not know what to do with myself, am already making plans for my extra 12-16 hours a week between October and February when I don't have an OU course on the go!0 -
Kidcat, how could he do that? I can imagine how churned up you must feel about it. What did your mum say?It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

She has just laughed it off. Their weekly shopping bill is more than i spend in a month. They have no idea. Worse, she has thrown away my ham from fridge - just in case, and sent dad for 'decent' ham! Cannot get through that kids won't eat the type they buy.
Then when dd6 asked for McDonalds for dinner, mum says oh no want you to have something healthy - will send dad out for pizza! Only for being physically unable to walk would throw them out and lock door. Seriously considering getting oh to call in sick tomorrow and lose days pay - it cannot possibly cost more than this. Besides my blood pressure which feels like i am going to explode.0 -
Just caught up (finally) after a week away in Cornwall last week (where DS1 had a vomiting bug, as did DS2 - who then came down with a really bad case of chicken pox....)
HUGE (((((hugs))))) to kidcat - you seem to be really going through the mill at the momentCannot believe someone would do that in someone else's kitchen. I remember before when your Dad did shopping for you and it was a horrendous bill
Is an online shop possible at all?
I know hugs are needed elsewhere too, but my memory has gone from reading too many pages at one go! Must remember to take notes next time. greent which part of Cornwall did you go to? So sorry your boys were ill though.
Kidcat, just hugs...0 -
Lovely day...collecting poo got cancelled, so I cleaned out the chickens instead. Major op as there has been spotted a bit of red mite - grrr.
DS(20) had a manflap last night when I got in from w*rk because there was no bread (and he couldn't find the yeast which has been in the same tin since September) also there was no 'ordinary' pasta (apparently) SIGH. They are two things I don't eat, so really maybe someone 'should' mention finishing off a packet? Anyway I've bought LOTS in Ald! today, and bagged some stickered 50% off sausage bargains
Kidcat, you are very restrained girly, I would have done BIG SHOUTING
Hugs to all....
