Thanks Shegar, I have tried a couple of others and the price has come down to £18! And I've included a couple of other pre-existing conditions as well as the epilepsy and autism.

    Have a lovely holiday. :)

BYATT: Gordy Riggs in Todd is Gordon Riggs garden centre in Toddmordon, West Yorkshire.

It's a very big garden centre and across the road is a mill shop and cafe.

Haven't really been on much recently and have just had a quick look at the last couple of pages.

PIC:- Oh God! that's so frustrating! All that work!

Pah:- I had that last week, you have all my sympathy's it's a really rotten bug to get!

Byatt:- dreadful the thought of not having proper insurance abroad. I can still remember discovering my Mam didnt bother declaring her high blood pressure on her many jaunts! She was quite sniffy when I insisted on changing it...It all came down to cost of course!

Like most of you I read other threads on MSE. Can I say I have been dismayed and appalled at the negative and almost abusive posts on other threads that I have been reading recently. :(
People are really behaving in an astonishing manner. I think these threads are here to provide support to people who need help/encouragement and advice. Some of them are like this one 'chatty' and if that's what you need at that moment then why not? Others have become quite aggressive, with people expressing their contempt at other people problems and their inability to cope/deal with them.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the posters and lurkers here for their tolerance, and their ability to see that if it's posted it's not trivial to that person posting. Yes, sometimes it's not very OS, and yes, sometimes it descends into a good old moan, but thats fine, sometimes when you have to moan you just have to let go and do it.;)
Sometimes it's better to rant on here than rant at the nearest and dearest who is under fire. It gives you a chance to take a deep breath, which can be a good thing.
ME! quick tempered! I don't know what you mean! :rotfl:

So, THANK YOU, it's appreciated. :A

Meme - I think the current attitudes are not at all nice, I have begun to steer clear of reading them, as I find it quite upsetting. The growing culture in the country as a whole seems to be that anyone claiming any sort of benefit is an ideal target and beneath contempt. How sad it is.

I have braved the Easter Saturday shopping hell ( I worked in Woolworths during Uni - and Easter Saturday is by far the worst shopping day of the year, Christmas is busy but goodwill and festive spirit carries people through usually in good cheer, however Easter people have no such spirit about them and are just cutthroat!) and got my veg and bread etc for tomorrows meal,.

I have decided to serve a nice salad with whole salmon again this year as we were unsure if nurses would still be in and out for DD and I wanted something that would not spoil. Mr A had an offer on salmon this week £4 per kg so I grabbed one to throw in mum and dads freezer. Thankfully no nurses but I dont see any reason to swap at this stage. Cheated and bought ready made desserts as am so far behind with everything I do not see where I would find the time.

Am feeling really tired today, which after so many nights without sleep was to be expected, but doesnt help with preparations. Have made a pan of soup for lunch which can double as a starter tomorrow, and am planning on sitting down with two youngest to watch Hop movie this afternoon and just relax.
  • Hello everyone, for what it's worth I think you are all amazing, you cope with situations that would break most people and still have time to listen to other peoples worries and problems and come up with the most innovative solutions to virtually anything life can throw at us - all I can say is thank heavens this thread is still here and thank heavens you all contribute to it. Life would be much more difficult without your wisdom, humour and tolerance. Have a Happy Easter everyone thanks for being there Cheers Lyn and Doc x.

The same for me, I know just knowing you are all here helps, knowing you will all share your wisdom makes each problem seem easier,

I've had a lot of help from this site - household stuff, electrics, computers, etc, etc and I'm really grateful for that. But earlier this year I decided to apply for contribution based JSA as the savings I've been living off were dwindling and a part-time job would make them stretch a bit further - the idea being that applying for the benefit would make me get my a*s into gear and sort something out.

The first interview was fine, the appointments afterwards were not - I was pushed into applying for all sorts of stuff that I was never going to get, for full time work and for work that would cost me more to travel to than was worth it. I checked out the benefits board - never posted - and my goodness how negative was that  After a few weeks I decided to be poor but happy and stopped my benefit claim. To anyone wanting advice on benefits - use another site/sites - the one on here will just make you feel worse.

Thank goodness for the OS boards - that's what I call real support :T

Tried to add a PS to last post but ran out of space:

An earlier version of this thread got closed down because of some personal conflicts - shouldn't the moderators be looking at the benefits board vis a vis the forum etiquette instructions?

Lizzy I've looked in on the benefits threads and sometimes asked a question or 2. It is rife with people who enjoy being nasty behind the safety of a computer screen. It says, IMHO, more about them than anyone else, because what sad lives they must have that their only enjoyment is to trawl threads to see where they can be nasty.

On the note of looking for work that you can't possible get or is not cost effective or difficult to travel to, my DD is part of the finding work scheme, bless her heart, and they let her apply for all sorts of things which she has no chance of getting. Worse, these people offer her an interview which she bravely goes to without support, and then they say she is not qualified! Despite having her CV and information about her autism beforehand. Plus she does not drive and is applying for shift work jobs at pubs/restaurants which she will not be able to get home from, let alone get there on time because of bus timetables. She keeps plodding on and then gets downhearted and has a break for a while.

    Thanks Esther :)
