I'm wondering if we'll get to see Northern Lights? Prob not as I guess Stockholm is too light.

Greyqueen:- DH was already fiancee. (he proposed after six weeks and we have been together 32 years) I have a 37 inch inside leg so yes, like you I am 'top-heavy' Combined with my short-sightedness and walking with my head held high to keep my neck safe I often miss people and almost walk into things!:rotfl:
:D Blimey, I have "fun" getting tights and trousers to accomodate my 34 inch inside leg...........I also am prone to falling over small children as they are below my line of sight and tend to run into me at knee-height.

It's not an advantage on airplanes or any kind of public transport but being lanky enables me to assist little old ladies and gentlemen in supermarkets who are stuck trying to get things off high shelves. Nearly had heart failure once, seeing a very frail old man standing on the second shelf up from the floor trying to reach something from the top shelf........hastened over and said; "Please let me get that for you, sir!" He did accept my help, thank goodness.

Mind you, back in the day when I did martial arts, I used to get creamed by small women (one particular sparring-mate was 4 foot 9 and used to thrash me) as they had nice low centres of gravity which is helpful when you're throwing a bigger opponent across the mats. Tell ya, spent a good part of the 1980s with friction burns on my arms and legs from skidding across the white cotton covers of the practice floor. I got a lot of leg-pulling from colleagues who were quite convinced I had an exotic private life............:rotfl:I used to spend Saturday mornings picking up strange men by their collars and bouncing them off the walls of church halls and misc gymnasia in another part of the forest.........such fun.:p

OK, have put my watch forward and am now on BST so am overdue for my bed.

A wasp? Oh no, can you swat it? Are they early?

Have a good trip to Finland and Sweden; how exciting. Well to me it is. :D Perhaps you could have a mini gtg with Vj. What is the food like?
it was a queen wasp which may have come in with a load of logs, or have been hibernating in a bookcase or curtain and woken up due to the warm weather. I'm not going to chase it round the house, so am braving the paint fumes!

I may buy from Approved Food, but I prefer my food to be food, not a chemical weapon thanks!

Work are reasonably generous with subsistence allowances, but scandinavia is always a stretch (hotels aren't cheap either).

I'm not expecting to see much in Stockholm, but we're hoping we might see something in Helsinki. That's if we manage to get out of the hotel for 5 minutes at any point!

I'm currently trying to pack, always my least favourite job. I think it will be left until morning, and I'll do my usual think of trying to shove everything I own into my suitcase, and forgetting something vital! I should be able to give you a weather report on wednesday if it would help!

You are both well travelled it seems, and take it in your stride. I would be mega excited and bouncing about the place. :D Have a good trip. And enjoy the fish. :)

BTW I just remembered someone from here was off to Oz/NZ/Japan? Lord, my memory is getting worse...and backpacking on their own for the last 2 weeks. Can someone remember their user name? Has it been several weeks since they left? :o:cool:

Thanks Marie, I'll have a look through the back posts tomorrow. Honestly, I am sure my memory has holes in it. I forget so much. :o

I know she said she would try and get online, but hopefully she's having so much fun she hasn't had the time! :D

edit to add: It's Catbells!! If you're reading catbells let us know how you are!

Great news on the bumblebees, GQ! This site should help to identify, but the tree bumblebee (listed as less common on the site) is much commoner all over the UK now - I had a nest nearby last summer.

The ones with red bums are likely to be the early bumblebee, they have a short life (nests die out shortly after midsummer) so I'm really glad you're making sure they have some food sources on your lottie!

I was jusy going to say Catbells, I remember as her user name is one of my favourite walks in the Lake District. For some reason, I thought she was going to be away longer than a couple of weeks. I could be wrong though.

I used to do a lot of travelling and like you, Byatt, would be bouncing with excitement (and trepidation) for weeks beforehand. Those days aren't likely to return for quite a while, as I try to save to pay off the mortgage, and build an emergency fund before my job folds (which it might not, but I really feel it might at some point in the not too distant future). If it does, and I've achieved my financial goals to ensure I can eat for a few months, maybe I will take a couple of months off the job hunt to wander somewhere cheaper than here with the pusses in my backpack. :rotfl:

    Nice to dream, eh?

More likely, I'll just be straight back on the treadmill, looking for work :(

Hope you all have the gorgeous weather we have here at the moment. I'm sitting outside listening to the birds over the traffic noise :rotfl:

Well, must get some brekkie. Enjoy your Sundays!

I'm sitting here aching from laughing so much. Can I recommend watching Sarah Millican's show from last night on iplayer. Last night's was about food and the bit about whoopsie shopping is hilarious. She was talking about her friend being an even bigger whoopsie shopper than she is and making thai green curry with sausages.

Well, I would have followed your advice but the iplayer looks like they've made the picture out of children's building blocks:D

Me? I was off in Kidderminster and Bewdley, being sociable and doing a well disguised raid on the charity shops....

LB's what a great memory you have. Yes I think Catbells was going for longer than 2 weeks. I think it was 2 weeks with her son, and then venturing out on her own. Can't wait to hear how she is. The "gap month" plans sound like a plan. I can look after the pusscats when you are away! :D

All this talk of fish  and I got some ready cooked mussels from Mr T, for 35p on YS. Not sure what to do with them now though. Only ever had them once before in a posh restaurant, all garlicky and yummy.

The cat I was looking after made a bid to escape out the door! I don't blame her, she's been cooped up all weekend and wants to go out and hunt.

Stressy this morning. My DD has been transferring money from her main account (bills) and using it for frivolity and fun. Just told me she is worried about paying her phone bill and when I asked why, told me she had moved money again, but insisted it was only £10. (probably an understatement).

    Sigh.

edit: just told me it's £50! :( I may go back to bed. :(
