Thanks for the clock reminder! Am I right, it;s 'spring' forward?
Got to be up early for the Grand Prix! Go Jensen! :rotfl:
WHilst, in principle, I disagree with grand prix's (environment reasons) I do love me a bit of Jensen (won't tell you which bit!)
Yes, it's spring forward, which means it's lighter later. It'll be nearly 8 before it's dark :T
Seriously jealous of all the allontmenteering. I spent most of the day on a train or in the hospital visiting dad. He is better but still can't walk and is being transferred to a rehabilitation ward on Monday, a bit closer to home. I had to go today as I am away for the next couple of weekends gadding about the continent. Sweden on Thursday for 5 days with work, Paris the following weekend for pleasure, we get free rail travel with heavily discounted eurostar so not as frivolous as it seems. We have rented an apartment as it was cheaper than any decent hotel. Looking forward to it as I love Paris - DD is mid revision for her GCSEs so it is a good excuse to give her a break. Not sure when the garden will get done though. :-/
I did spend a lovely few hours in London this morning though. Mainly just wandering about, sitting in the sunshine here and there with a coffee or my book before getting on another train down to dad.
This wine is particularly delicious - I think I will have another....I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
liloandstitch wrote: »Just de-lurking to say that I wash all my curtains in the washing machine -even the expensive velvet ones - they are all dry clean only. The reason is usually because the lining may shrink at a different rate to the curtain. I have never had this happen but I do only cold water wash them. I even put the ones with the metal rings through without any probs. They are all 90 x 90 curtains.
My xxxxxx cat sprays on my curtains if I am not quick enough to stop him, and I think I would be bankrupt from dry cleaning costs if I had to pay them each time!
Back to lurking............. lilo
Thanks Lilo for delurking and letting me know.Mine don't seem to have any lining, but I did use a cold wash. Just didn't want to spend on dry cleaning when I got a bargain!

Vjsmum:- Mmmm yes!:rotfl:
Greyqueen:- DH was already fiancee. (he proposed after six weeks and we have been together 32 years) I have a 37 inch inside leg so yes, like you I am 'top-heavy' Combined with my short-sightedness and walking with my head held high to keep my neck safe I often miss people and almost walk into things!:rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -

As you're preparing early, maybe you could source some fleeces to line them with (or if you're good with a sewing machine, line and interline them properly) as this will make them a lot warmer. I've just replaced my ancient velvet curtain at the back door, as a friend has made me new interlined curtains for the kitchen window and door which I'm picking up at Easter. Apparently there is enough fabric left for a roman blind so I may end up rearranging all the curtains in the house as a result!
ETA - VJsmum ... I'm just packing for Finland and Sweden (fly out tomorrow) for a work trip. I'll still be in Stockholm on thursday as my return flight isn't till Friday morning... We might cross paths...0 -
An awwwweeeee moment; my DD just texted to say she was on the bus home and a load of marines started fussing our pooch. The marine camp is near where she lives. She said pooch's face lit up like a light bulb with all the patting, and stroking. It kind of touched me for some reason, as those same young men may have been, or will be going to Afghanistan.0

Thanks Greenbee, I'm not good with sewing and I don't have a sewing machine (my grandmother will turn in her grave)...but I will try and source some fleece. What does line and interline mean?0 -

Lined means that there is one layer of fabric behind the nice curtain fabric, usually plain White or cream cotton. Interlining is between the curtain and lining and is thicker and often thermal, so extra warm and cosy.
Bother... A wasp has just flown on and landed on the light... I'm meant to be sleeping in the sitting room as my bedroom is being painted and smells of paint. Think i might change my plans...0 -
