Prepareathome - thank you. I have considered home schooling DS13 and it may well come to that, just hoping his assessment comes through as easy. :)

B&T - there are six of us and three bathrooms so 20 rolls equates to one per bathroom per day, DS7 will use half a roll at a time and one day I will attempt to develop a strategy to deal with it, but as toilet training was a major battle and until recently he had to have a special seat I look upon the toilet paper usage as a small price to pay - we used to have to be changing carpets etc and getting him to actually use a toilet was a break through - cant begin to imagine doing anything that may put him off :)

We used to have a cat that shredded toilet roll -used to drive my mum up the wall, if you forgot to close the bathroom you would come home to a house covered in snow kitty style :)

I don't really get luxury loo roll, for exactly the same reasons. However, OH moaned about the very basic Aldi one I brought home. We went to Aldi yesterday and bought a slightly more expensive one (but still cheaper than branded ones). Hopefully this will suit his delicate behind! There's only 2 of us, but it feels like we go through mountains of the stuff. Maybe the loo gets hungry while we're out and eats it?

I have a theory about men and lavatory-paper. I have done some research but not extensive. This is from observation rather than cross-examining total strangers, you understand. Even I'd be too ashamed to do that.

Men wrap TP round and round their hands several times for each use. They have to get at least ten layers of paper between their hands and the Other Dirty Place. Chuck it and then wind again. None of that stingy folding-it-in-half crack-pot and dangerous business. This is the reason why men, who only use the WC when visiting for A Certain Purpose Alone, use almost roll a day while the ladies who use it for every single visit use about half of that or much less.

I am catching up with superscrimpers at the minute, the first one of the series, i am glad I recorded it to watch back, it's helping to keep me focused on not spending and saving as much as possible! Don't know if I will be allowed to change some of my curtains (which I seem to have billions of) into cushions, the last time I used a sewing machine I snapped the needle... in my finger which ended up with me in hospital having surgery (a week later coz I was busy...) to have the tip of the needle removed!! Hubby was NOT impressed lol

Smiley, hope Bruno is ok, thinking of you.

    Kidcat, thinking of you also.

We have snow; didn't believe it but had to go out and there it was about 8 miles from me. Really cold of course, but I seem to have adjusted and really didn't think it was *that* cold indoors till I went out. Have only had my little convector heater on at low, (unintentionally low, but didn't notice). Do have layers on and snuggle up with a duvet on the sofa. Even so I'm quite pleased at my *hardiness.*

Quite gobsmacked at the Sun ranting on about the army being on standby for the south of England as they expect "extreme temperatures" of minus 6 :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: - Since when was -6 "extreme" ?! Am sure the older ones in here can remember winters of minus 6 and below ? We had minus 19 here last two years and we never got any help.. The highlands have had snow for weeks now and never even got a mention!

Well we both had to get up in decent time this morning and we both had a bad night. I'd intended to get up early to type up my short story for my creative writing group for the first Tuesday afternoon of the month. When I cottoned on to the fact that it's the LAST Tuesday of the month I breathed a huge sigh of relief- another week to get my act together!

As OH always looks forward to Radio Times on a Tuesday and I had some other bits to get I went for a circular walk which ended up being 2.98 miles.. Boy was it cold and it's taken most of the day to get properly warmed up despite being well wrapped up. The council had been griitting the pavements but no sign of ice....! Pity they didn't do that in December 2010 instead of leaving us with 3-6 inches of pack ice for a month!

OH likes TV if it's a programme he's interested in and plans the week's viewing / recording around the R/T schedule. He can't bear it on in the daytime unless it's the News and we both hate the 'meal' they seem to make out of every conceivable programme these days. We are NOT looking forward to the Olympics for that reason among others and will probably record a load of films to view rather than watch it! We share a loathing of spectator sports as well!

We'll probably be in the garden a lot anyway as we grow a lot of our own food.

Feel sorry for the London travelling public- did anyone see the news last night saying people are being encouraged to work from home/ go to the pub etc to delay their work journey? OH says he's seen a news item saying it will take 2 hours to get in and another 2 hours to get out of Olympic venues- security I think. Surely they'd get a better view on tv??

As for childhood holidays - well my mother was a Makkam from Sunderland so each year we would make the 130 mile trip 'home' as she called it and spend a fortnight with my grandparents. There was the seaside and I remember a sea fret so thick it was hard to see the sea from Mother's deck chair. But no one went on foreign holdays then it seemed (I'm nearly 63) and visiting our relatives did at least ensure that we knew them (cousins as well) to some extent. We didn't feel deprived as that was just the way it was.

It seems very hard to be a parent these days with all the expectations children have. Last month my cousin had to tell one of his sons that he couldn't have the box of lego he wanted. Apparently it was about £500!!. The boys told me that some of it wasn't too expensive being only £100! I felt like something out of a bygone age when I heard this and yet my cousin & his wife are doing an excellent job of bringing their children up with good values.

We don't have that kind of money to spend on them but it seems our originality and thrifty buys keep them guessing every year...
They have to open a different present every day for the 12 days of Christmas so they don't have that 'gimme gimme gimme grab grab grab' mentality.

Well I'd better go and cook the meal.- a rare treat of farmer's market bacon with fresh veg - and really tastes nothing like supermarket bacon....absolutely delicious.....
