Top PLAN!!! We had some AH wild mushroom risotto in a big tub from approved foods, and I must say I thought it was pretty good. I should have kept the ingredients list myself
I've never seen the big tub on sale anywhere though - how much are they usually?
Kate
Bear in mind his memory is even worse than my own *rollseyes*.
I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to replicate the ingredients list, so watch this space! It must be fairly straight forward (and probably cheaper) to do a HM version to store in an airtight caddy.0 -
My brain is fine, just the rest of me is knackered. Swap half a dozen brain cells for a non-wobbly leg ?0

Wonder if this is winter at last? Been very cold here all day, not thawed at all out the back the grass stayed white all day and the hens water froze. Gone colder now since sun went down. Loads and loads of geese flew over us all day - must've been hundreds of them.
I know what you mean. Not quite that cold here but we did have the hardest frost of the winter so far last night and it has been cold enough to snow today.gardenia101 wrote: »All age related again, I feel :rotfl:. Loved this :rotfl:I've started doing what my grandma and my mum did/do - ie mixing up names of kids or pets and going through a whole list to get to the right one
In common with some of you I've been feeling very low this week - down to a lack of any decent sleep in my case. Managed a few hours together last night so feeling a bit more human and have caught up with the threads at last.
Kidcat - I see your life is beginning to rival Greyqueen's in terms of sitcom potential :rotfl:All you mums amaze me with your resilience and good cheer in face of your families' trials and tribulations.
Sammy-Kaye - your thoughts on butter making - getting a processor, butter dish and pitcher for the buttermilk - made me laugh. I too have spent far too much in the name of cheaper butter/bread/stews/whatever. Good to know I'm not alone :T
Nice to see new faces and new-old ones too - hope to stay caught up now!"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Possession wrote: »Kate my Dad had to have a colonoscopy (he said it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be) at the beginning of december because they suspected prostate cancer.....they kept us waiting until a few days ago for the results which was more than a little frustrating, and came back as 'no definite sign of cancer'. Now I'm not sure exactly what that means but I'm presuming its good. Even when I was fearing the worst though, i was reading a lot of positives about survival rates. I hope your DH gets the tests he needs soon, and an apology would certainly be nice for completely wasting your time and petrol wouldn't it?1
In general, if the results are ones you need to worry about then they get hold of you very quickly. Otherwise they often wait for you to call as they are busy calling people with problem results. It would just be helpful if they said that, I now assume that if I don't get a call I don't need to worry.0 -
Hi Kate, I *think* about £3 per kilo but don't quote me on that; all I know is, I thought it was a bargain at £2 per kilo for the storecupboard. I'll ask dh to take a closer, more memorable, look when he bargain hunts this evening

I had some FAB stuff given to me - and I did save the packet off that. It's made by a company called Gustosecco (it'll come up if you google) We had the pumpkin risotto (that's the packet i kept) and the mushroom I think, and almost certain we had a cous cous too. I see they've added some puddings too. But I shouldn't think that making up a tasty 'instant' dried mix would be too difficult?

Just repeating this in case any have missed my earlier post.
I have won tickets to see The LadyKillers in London, matinee of the 25th Jan. There's no way I can justify going; train fares and dog care, so is anyone on here in London or will be in London then. They have to be picked up from the theatre, but shouldn't be a problem. I can give you the email to support collecting them. I am asking on here first, and then will offer on the comp forum if no takers. First one to ask will have them. Just PM me. Hope it's ok to say this here.0 -
Welsh names - there is a place near us (Kate, you will know it) called Eglwyswrw - it ended up being called Eggles-weggles in the Chip house! I am absorbing welsh by osmosis, I can understand some, but not really got into actually speaking any. I must join some of the welsh classes that are run by the council.
Kate - the drive up today was beautiful, especially looking down on the misty fields above Cardigan - it made me think how different it was to the grey streets of SE London!
We called it Egluwysiwyg when we first arrived. I can pronounce it now
We did two years of classes and I struggled a lot at the end. It helped, I can vaguely get the gist of what people are talking about - sometimes.
But I'm really not good at languages, and I found it poked bits of my brain that hadn't been poked since French at school...a VERY long time ago, and it made a sort of French/Welsh/English word porridge in my head  I do find it fascinating though, I just can't do it!
It was beautiful today wasn't it. I was out with the goggies on the back road, and the sky was incredible. There were the really high mares tails clouds, and lower puffy ones clustered along the coast, and loads of vapour trails criss crossing the sky. This evening the sky is completely clear, the stars are really bright, and the milky way is very distinct - going to be a cold one tonight.

Another one here who gets her words muxed ip! Years ago I was taking some strong painkillers and I phoned someone who asked if I was on my mobile and did I need them to call me back - I replied that no it was fine I was in one of those red things on the street and I'd put a whole doodah in the wotsit! (pound in the slot) Took half the money to work out what I was blathering on about. I'm not so bad these days now I don't need the painkillers anymore but I can still have my moments after a harassing day with the kids.
Had a good day today although a bit of a spendy one as took the kids to the posh swimming place with the flume and the waves. DD is really getting her confidence in the water though and DS is a total water baby - he loves it. Will have to have a quiet day tomorrow for DD to recover though as she worked so hard today she'll be tired. Off up to my parents again next week and going to the South Lakes Animal Park (still free at the moment) which is DD's favourite place in the world and it will be my birthday while we're up there too.
How lovely about the flowers Byatt - I love having flowers in the house it makes the place look so lovely, enjoy them.0 -

If you get no other takers, I have a disabled friend who lives in London and loves the theatre. No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0 -
