I've frozen/defrosted and used buttermilk in cakes, pancakes, muffins, curries etc with no trouble at all.

    Thank you.

I am off now to get shaking.

My little boy Ben is off school today - he was sat this morning telling me he was cold, figured he was just messing as he'd only just woken up, took him to school and he burst into tears in the yard.

Came home and hes gone straight to his room, not entirely sure if hes sleeping or playing but hes is very pale with sunken eyes bless him and he has had quite a few toilet runs so far today. :(

So I figure we might sit and shake our cream now to see if we can get some butter made.

Wondering if I clean out an old milk bottle if I can put the buttermilk in there are freeze it to use at a later date to make scones etc.
    Time to find me again

Thank you. I keep looking at them they are so lovely. :)

I have won tickets to see The LadyKillers in London, matinee of the 25th. There's no way I can justify going; train fares and dog care, so is anyone on here in London or will be in London then. They have to be picked up from the theatre, but shouldn't be a problem. I can give you the email to support collecting them. I am asking on here first, and then will offer on the comp forum if no takers. First one to ask will have them. Hope it's ok to say this here. :)

Made a rod for my own back in my money/time saving way.

Found in Asda the other day, a tub of Ainsley Harriott Biryani Mix for £2 Kilo. Thought it would be a good storecupboard standby as a 4 person portion works out at 50p. Now I live with faddy eaters, so the odds were that 2 out of 4 of us would eat it. Last night I cooked it up, adding some left over cooked roast chicken (which dh had earmarked as a sandwich filling just for himself!). It fed all four of us and was met with rave reviews; to such a point where they asked for it again today (this time I'll be using a piece of left over chorizo sausage that is lurking in the bottom of the fridge) :rotfl:

My original plan of pizza has now been moved to tomorrows menu. Dh passes Asda on the way to work so he's going to stock up on some more as it's so easy to make and will be a great standby when I go back to long days at Uni.

I'm going to keep the tubs and then fill it with my own version of the mix which I'm sure I can make cheaper and con them all into thinking it's the same stuff :shhh: but for now, while its on offer, it's a good deal - especially when it's converted 2 faddy "don't like foreign food" eaters :D
  • Just wanted to say thank you to Softstuff for her biscuits receipe posted some weeks back. I made some at xmas time and put little balls of marzipan in them, the whole family loved them.
Well yesterday after my dog walk I decided I should make some more but I used mincemeat instead and they were equally delicious.
I also got to feel very frugal as I was using some mincemeat that I had got in Sainsburys 1.36KG for 10p. Yes, the baking, the eating and the 10p price tag did make me feel better.:)

Top PLAN!!! We had some AH wild mushroom risotto in a big tub from approved foods, and I must say I thought it was pretty good. I should have kept the ingredients list myself :( I've never seen the big tub on sale anywhere though - how much are they usually?

Morning all, I just have to share this. A large box was delivered a little while ago, with Interflora blazened all over it; I was sure it had been delivered to the wrong place so checked the name, but no, it was for me! I tried to think who would send me flowers and came up with zilch:rotfl: but it turns out that it is a from a competition I entered, can't recall which one, and it is the most beautiful basket of poinsettias and white roses. So beautiful I almost cried. Just stunning. :D I did a little dance.

edit: just had the email to advise me, and was told the company upgraded the prize from a poinsettia to a basket worth £50.

Oh I am so happy for you, just the pick me up you deserve after the weeks of worry, it could not have happened to a nicer person. Take lots of pics so you can enjoy them for years to come.

  • Congrats Byatt - the fact that you are being so generous as to offer the tickets you cannot use to others is why the lovely flowers are so nice. Definately believe what goes around comes around well done you for being so nice Lyn.
  • Hi Guys!

Not been on this thread for a while but OH is doing an inventory of the freezer today which I know will be mental and want to use up what we have in for the next few weeks, then put the equivalent in a pot to save towards (hopefully) a holiday.

I want to get back on track as Ive let my OS ways slip a lot these past 12 months and really need to get back on track. The thing is, I have such little energy and OH's now working (from home) that its easier to get more convenient items. Im not lazy, but Im not well and don't want OH overdoing stuff IYKWIM. Ive been ordering a few meals from Wiltshire Farm foods on and off these past few months as I find the meals tasty and easy to heat through.

I have a PA a couple of times a week now and she's helps prep any food etc for dinner, so want to start taking advantage of that and might increase her days to 3 if we can afford it, as it really does help me with everything from helping me wash/dress etc to usual stuff around the home that I would love to do, but cannot. I really need to eat a high calorific diet, rich in protein and already have Fortisip protein drinks daily.

Money isn't too tight atm, but I don't want to rely on it and cut back as much as we can and save the difference. Have had a look through utilities, sky, mobiles etc and already:

Got Sky reduced by 40% for 12 months and took sports off
DD & OH moved to Giffgaff (I will too in 3 months)
    Opened an ISA
Changed Gas & Electric and cut £18pm

I ordered a delivery from Approved foods and got many packs of the 9 rolls of decent loo rolls for £2.75, couscous (loads!), soup mixes, 3.5kg custard powder as a cheap filling pudding and a load of other items.

Hope its okay to come back every now and again.

    PP
    xx

  • I totally believe in the the system of trial by Jury but I know there is no way I could get there every day, or be able to sit more than about 15 mins without moving or having to go to loo and very often I get fibro fog which means I can not remember or concentrate on anything and I have holes in my mind where words should be - hubby and I have fun with me describing some thing and him working out what the word is I cannot remember. Getting very good at discriptions:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: ( that stuff growing out my head that is getting very long: the thing that shines brightly so I can see in the dark: my portable pc etc etc) Hubby is getting very good at working out exactly what I mean. If he is not here google is a great help at helping me find out what the word is. Not such fun in public though can see me sitting in a Jury trying to talk about the defendant without me remembering the word defendant or something like that, to embarrassing for words.

If only they had asked me 10 years ago I would have loved to do it, my mum was asked funnily about my age and she enjoyed it - it was a case to do with stolen fur coats and she said you knew right from the start the defendant was guilty as he was caught with them but trying to deny it ( before cctv) but there was not just security guards word for it but lots of other peoples, but this guy was saying he had not walked out with 3 fur coats stuffed in a bag and it was all lies, mum said she could not even imagine how he managed to stuff the coats into a bag as they were all mink and thick coats but this guy thought if he kept saying he was innocent and shouted that society was trying to fit him up he would get away with it. Turned out after he was found guilty he had spent most of his life in prison for theft and had only been out two days. I think it wasn't so much he wanted the coats but that he had got used to prison life and wanted to go back, judge obliged him by sending him down for I think 15 years.

Rocket gardens are now resending me the second half of the fruit garden order. I asked them outright to do so as after a box of live plants has been lobbed over a 12ft wall, been attacked by a dog, stayed by a radiator for over 24hrs I somehow doubt the plants will produce their best in the summer. This order is just jinxed, should have received it in one go in Dec but half was missing and now this happens. Cost £50 for it but hoping it will be an investment giving me fruit for years to come, never had any problems with any other order from them so hopefully just a blip. I just need to get some fruit trees now.

I had bought some reduced cream last week but it got shoved to back of fridge and I only found it yesterday well out of date so its been binned so hoping to pop to shops soon and see if can get any more. Don't usually seem much reduced in my Mr S but I can but hope. Want to see if can get anything else reduced as its my poorer week this week, so have about £10 left after everything to buy food - still got some in freezer ( just don't know what) and store cupboard but need milk and fruit, vegetables and salad stuff - so hoping they have a nice selection in the reduced part of fruit and veg section and I will make do with whatever that is.

Names of posters forgotten sorry but

Well done with Sky but I do agree they are great at first refusing to do anything then when you threaten to cancel offer you help making it seem as if they are doing you a favour, crafty.

Hubby how had horrible op yesterday I hope he does go back for the blood test etc. Not nice what happened, doctor sounds horrible.

Hope daughters college sorts out her courses, had similar with youngest son as he was HS and went to college at 15. Oh the fun we had but he did get on his course and did well.

For others lots of hugs where they are needed.:A
