Thank you very much for your generosity Byatt, you've made a friend of mine very happy!:A

I'm delighted they can be used. :)

I had a bizarre something come through my letter box today; 2 old keys, tied together. As I wasn't up :o I didn't see who put them in, but now wondering who they were meant for and what happens if the person doesn't turn up to get them back! It would make a good short story I think.

Talking about accents, when I was 10 we moved from Cardiff to a village about 15 miles outside. The mickey was taken about my accent ...being Welsh!! Not sure what they thought they sounded like. :rotfl:

edit: Oh Ginny your OH was so lucky, even so it must have been a shock. I find things like that really knock my confidence for a while.

Laughing at accents here - the best one I read about was a wee boy who moved up here from down south. He said down there he was "Karl"..... when he arrived up here he was "Carol" :D I tried it and got OH to do it and there is no way we can say Karrrrl the way you do :rotfl: it always comes out KAROL :rotfl:

I tried really hard with Karrrrrl when I was teaching construction students but no, it always came out Karol and caused laughs (apart from any Karrrls I had). Lived in England near 20 years too!

Yes, oooh who was it said poyetry - the little girl rosieben knew - - I say poyums. It takes huge concentration to get anywhere near 'pomes'. Thats is a HARD word!

Ginny - that must have been a terrible shock for your OH and shame about the buggy too!! :)

Byatt - they dont fit your door then?? Was thinking maybe previous resident found them and pushed them through - I found wiondow keys for last house way after we moved so shoved them through the box - admittedly I attached a note!

All the talk of accents reminds me of one of my dads favourite scenes from open all hours - where the guy asks for forcandles - and keeps being given four candles, only to discover he actually wanted fork handles!

My accent varies according to company and temper, in deep anger I can throw a full on thick scouse accent, but in different company I am inclined to neutralise to their accent - I worked in a call centre once and the manager used me to conduct a survey on customers reactions to accent as I could at that time swap at will. Now I need to be with someone speaking the lingo to replicate it - usually without even realising. :)

No, they are those long old fashioned style keys for big wooden doors. People often come to my door or put things through in error; can't understand it as the house names are clearly marked.

My accent is neutral for the most part now. My DD mimics and currently is sounding like a geordie on the phone.

Hymn books it is - seems obvious now but at the time it had a whole class of 12 year olds flummoxed :rotfl:

I know what you mean about accents Kidcat - I used to automatically modify my accent to suit who I was talking to - not deliberately, it just happened that way. It appalled my parents who sent me to elocution lessons when I was a kid. I wonder if they still do those?

Have prepped 2 veg beds and tidied up the herb pots - does anyone know anything about chives? Mine have died right down - do they regrow in spring or do I have to plant again? Still got lots to do but it will have to wait a bit - I need digestion time after lunch these days. :(

GQ was online yesterday, but didn't post, I guess she is not feeling up to it. At least we know she is not lying under her bed covered in itinned tomatoes!
