I have new avatar... flowers, crochet bunting, tights, shoes, skirt and an apron. Not very interesting but pretty much sums me up ;)

I love your new avatar, sums you up perfectly from what I can see on these forums, but I beg to differ on the "not very interesting" - you most certainly are interesting!

P.S. Have noticed the 1lb weight loss. Well done, Girlie :T

The wind here is making me really jumpy ... had a power cut earlier on, but luckily it came back on half an hour later. I hate it, so many worrying sounds, and it keeps pretending that it's all over, blown itself out, but then comes back again just as bad. We usually live in a sea of mud at this time of year, but we are now in the middle of a couple of inches of muddy water. There is a flood warning out for the local river. Wish my OH was here - hate being home alone in this sort of weather! It has obviously unsettled the cats, too, as one of them has just peed behind the Christmas tree ... grrrr, couldn't get hold of him in time, just had to mop carpet and give it a good spray with cleaning stuff. Not a good day. And today's task? My tax return!! Do hope all up north where it sounds as if the weather is much worse are keeping safe, and that it all stops soon. xx the cake, wet and windblown.

BMs can be fickle things :rotfl:!

I would always suggest that anyone new to BMs should follow the book, making any necessary adjustments until the loaf is how you like it - then write the recipe down! Once you have cracked that start experimenting with different mixes of flour and flavourings, but always note down the variations in recipe, if you get a brilliant loaf it is a real pain if you can't remeber how you made it!

Mr Chip turns out perfect loaves three times a week, but he insists on following his recipe to the letter! He and OG have long conversations about the various merits of bread flour, comparing loaves and taste-testing their product - :rotfl:you would think they were hand-crafting it themselves!

ETA: Hope everyone is safe and dry, and all hennies accounted for!

  • Am feeling very lazy today. It's my first day to actually get on, but am too distracted by internet and eating Christmas chocs/biscuits (not good for supposed diet).

I have made a marvellous bottom of the fridge casserole for tea, which is slow cooking.

It's interesting reading about people thinking of joining WI. I've been considering having a go. I'm 32. I don't mix well, and I don't have many friends. I thought it might get me out a bit. I did join PTA for a bit for the same reason, but it's been disbanded.

DD went back to school today, and already her joints are hurting her. I think I might be kidding myself that she'll ever be up to full time school whilst on chemo. It is not boding well for my job. :(

I feel so fed up at the moment; I'm struggling to know what to do with myself. The past 12 months have been so draining. I was totally on track with my job, earning decent money, had family life organised, and now I'm in some kind of limbo just praying that the cancer stays away from DD. It's horrible.

    Sorry for vent.

Sorry to hear your DD is suffering with her joints, chemo is a horrid poison that we have no control over when our little ones are diagnosed with cancer. (I lost my DD this summer to cancer, she was 5.)
Can you speak to your Clicsergent worker about talking to your work try and take some of the stress out of you worrying about your job? Also if you mention to your consultant about DD's joints they can pass you to a physiotherapist who can advise of what exercises might help. (Sorry if you have already done this, I know it helped in our case) .

We're trying to sort out our finances this year, before we get in too deep, cutting spending on un-needed carp and trying to make food stretch a bit further and not wasting so much. I hate putting it in the bin so am clearing space in the freezer for batch cooking, which is very new to me.

Hope everyone has everything battened down in this wind.

Thank you for this Fellpony. I'm truly sorry to hear that you lost your DD. It's a cruel illness. Thank you for your advice. I've got a meeting at work in a couple of weeks so will see what they say then. I've not really been in for a year now - she was diagnosed last January. Hospital kept me going by assuring me that when she got onto maintenance chemo, I would restart work again - that's what I told my employer. However, I have learned that this is a best case senario, and I don't want to put pressure on DD to think she has to force herself into school so that I can work. We'll be okay for the time being, but I worry about the future - this is why I'm starting to try and save as much as possible.

With her joints - she still gets unexplained arthritis and it flares awful each time she goes back into school. If it happens again, rheumatology are going to take samples of the fluid and test them, as it shouldn't be happening whilst she's on methotrexate. They want to find out what's causing it. They keep trying to reassure me that it isn't the leukaemia back again as swollen joints were an early symptom :(. Now they think something else might be happening too.

Again, though, I am ever so sorry for your loss.

A few minutes ago the sky went black and I needed to put the lights on. In the middle of the day! Then rain absolutely belted down, so hard I couldn't see the buildings on the other side of the river. And the wind! Still, it turned out to be a flash in the pan (or the complete opposite but I can't think of a suitable simile). All calm here now, thank goodness.

My darling, sainted sister gave me some much appreciated cash for part of my Christmas present and I went to Asda yesterday and p!ssed away a whole TWELVE POUNDS on luxury items that I really don't need. A pair of those cosy fleece pajama-bottoms for when the weather eventually turns bitter which I'll wear for house-trousers and a cute little hand-mixer for my baking adventures. I sent her a text to tell her what I'd wasted some of the money on and she called me a "profligate flaming wastrel". Hehe. Meanwhile I've got the princely sum of sixty quid to put towards groceries for the next couple of months or pay a bill or two with it. The other sister gave me an M&S voucher-card thingy which will go together with the other one she gave me for my birthday in summer. I'm hanging onto those for when there's something I'm in desperate need of, maybe some new underthings when the current lot have given up the ghost completely. Ain't life just grand sometimes? Hooray for lovely and generous sisters!

Now, can't chat. I've got some baking to do.

I dont think it sounds like frittering waste as jan/feb can be cold.Sometimes we need little treats keep us sane.

We got given some xmas money which went on food and bills felt bad using kids money to pay water but we buy lots for them in fact hubby took eldest into boots to get aspirin and came out with huge spongbob pillow other day hes has problems saying no.

Hopefuly do family day trip when weathers better.
Plus have to arrange her 6th birthday party for next month. so more money.

Had bit of poor start to week due to really bad weather.

Got soaked this morning on school runj but did do breckfast club so hoping she dried out in time for class.
The babies were ok as took the double but I got soaked rigfht through.

I was suppost to go out again this morning for slimming world but as the rain was so bad dident want to drag kids out will go this evening instead.

So tried to get warm and dry this morning
waited for rain to ease off.

I had to go to high street but not my local high street a nearby suberb 3miles away with toddler and baby.

Dident want to carry baby as raining.
so put toddler in rainsuit with brolly and reins.
we took bus up to my high street
then walked my higns treet to nearby suberb as no direct buses.

Asdmittoidly this suberb is better than mine many more shops but as it was raining and had overexited toddler in tow dident go too far.,

went to poundshop got 6pk crisps noticed few good xmas reductions might go back sat.
went to flipping santander the worlds most useless bank to pay cash in to hubbys account as he had 3direct debits coming out on 1st so today we assume as this 1st working day after new year as hes paid cheque in which clears tommorow always seems to be cashflow problem as he had £60 bank charges.

Went to tesco where toddler threw herself onto floor and wouldent get up.
Anyway went into tesco for value fromage frais as all kids eat it even the baby and value is always cheapest. Its gone up 6p from 44p to 50p! Expect sainsburys to copy with their basic lines annoyed at such steep rises inb value.

With the framage frais and wipes I cant find any cheaper than value to just have to put up with the rise as the big 4copy each others value prices.

By time toddler walker at snails pace to our high street where we got bus home got baby changed and we had lunch its now time to go back out on school rin where I forsee rain and tantrums so will take the double.
Its not just wet its windy so plays havoc with the brolly.

everyone take care out toddler slipped a few times.

Feel bad as havent had chance to do any housework as been in out a lot.

I did pop in agents and reminded them we been without fire fo 3 weeks!

when get back from school will hoover downstairs.
get tea ready spag bol reduced mince and bacon.
    get kids changed in pjs
    do eldests reading.
try get toddler and baby asleep.

hubbys too busy to chat but assures me he be back by 6.45 so drag myself to evening slimming group always weigh more in evenings.

Fellpony - I am so sorry for your loss and MT2M - keep strong.

My problems are so little in comparison.

DS and I have been out for lunch - he had a full english so doesn't need a meal tonight. OH and DD not coming back till late so I will just have soup and a turkey sandwich, then freeze remaining turkey for another day. [STRIKE]We are[/STRIKE] he is doing homework but I have to be around to keep him on track.

We went to a local farmshop on the way back from lunch, that I haven't been to for years. My but it's posh - luckily there is no room in the freezer otherwise I might have blown my monthly budget :rotfl: There is a cafe there too, so might investigate that one day.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Fellpony so sorry for your loss.

Really wide here -96mph locally recorded and stuff flying everywhere. Power came back on half an hour ago - it's been off all day, but we have the stove and have been making tea and egg sandwiches on it over the day. It's colder too, we have hailstones in the rain, so expecting worse not better. No damage though, thankfully, apart from the usual trees down and the sea coming over the road - always exciting in my wee corsa!!!!!
