Hi
Yet another lurker being drawn in to the chat. I love catching up with you ladies every day. It's so reassuring to know that I'm not the only pinny wearing, baking, cleaning, home cooking, non shopping 34 year old out there!!
I too would like to make some RL friends, but have no clue how. Have this weird tendency to assume everyone hates me, or 'puts up' with me out of politenessnot sure why I believe this cos I'm lovely really
Anyhoo, just wanted to say hi, and to break the news gently to Fuddle - sorry hun, we don't have a Primark in York. I know not why, but there you have it. Our nearest is Harrogate, which also has a Betty's and much much better charity shops!!
Take care all, hope the wind calms down
Lumpy x
Hi LumpyNo Primark in York? I'm not really fussed about that but it means I won't be treating myself to summat for 2 quid then.
I didn't realise there's a Betty's in HarrogateI imagine that the CS's there would be rather better than what I'm used to here. Well you have just sealed my plans for my birthday in September - a day to Harrogate CS shopping with sister and a Betty's Afternoon Tea

I wondered what people's thoughts were on the WI as I was thinking of going along. My OH reckons that at 34 I'll be the youngest there (which would be a novelty!) but I think it would be good to meet some like-minded people and hopefully I could learn a lot too.
Am pages behind, so you may well already have had several replies to this! However, I'm in our WI. I'm 41 and have been there 4 years (I was teh youngest when I joined) Have had another baby when I was there - which was quite amusing when we were having a demonstrtaion by someone who was using something unsuitable for pregnant people and they made the comemment taht as it was the WI they didn't expect any pregnant ladies - at which point I was pointed at (by then 7 months obviously pregnant!) We also had a demonstration by someone who was going on about pre decimalisation things - and was surprised to find me therre 9ok, I was born in 1970, so just before decimalisation- but I don;t remember anything about it!!)
The WI can be great fun and a good source of female support - and great for knowledge sharing. Give it a whirl - you often get 2 or 3 free visits as a guest before having to join up - and if you've more than 1 group locally, try them all - the mix of people between different groups can be vast.....I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Oh my its so windy today - our outdoor snow globe blew away:rotfl:
then an hour later blew into our back garden
DS13 wanted me to call school today cos he was sure it wouldnt be open in this weather:rotfl::rotfl: needless to say he was delivered safely on time!!
have attacked my washing mountain and am currently having a tidy up upstairs - problem is I have lost my motivation, sitting down to call garages to find tyres before MOt this afternoon has drained me. More likely hearing the prices was the draining bit £102 per tyre (we need two):eek::eek:
Going to send Oh into loft later to get rid of last Christmas' boxes and put this years up instead, will then start to take down the decorations I think.0 -
The cheques came today! Praying always seems to work
not to any Gods in particular, just whoever may be listening...
DH is at home today as weather is too bad for working in. He had a few days off last week too so those cheques will really come in handy! DH is a self employed gardener so when he's ill/weather's bad/we go away... he earns no money. The idea of paid leave sounds like bliss but he insists on working for himself, which is fair enough, it has its upsides too. Maybe I will get a job with paid leave one day...June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Katep and GreenT - My nan has been trying to take me to a WI meeting with her since I divulged my secret 'squirreling' lifestyle and told her I had secret stashes of tins/toilet rolls etc. Plus she knows how much I like to craft and bake - and I wouldnt be too worried - Im 27! But in honesty they seem like my kind of people! Crafting, Baking, cooking etc - Id be landed there.Time to find me again0

102 mph at the top of Blackford Hill (for all Edinburgers!) I think the last couple of hours have been worse than hurricane bawbag, it's pretty grim here. The poor old guy across the road has lost dozens of slates from the corners of his roof. OH and I have just spent an entertaining 20 minutes trying to unwrap a stray 12 foot long piece of roofing felt (I'm guessing from one of the many renovations going on round here) from our tree and, more importantly, our neighbour's phone line. Hens have all retreated to bed.
Mardatha - how are you doing up the hill?
A stupid question: I keep sending off for freebie shampoo samples - is there any reason why I shouldn't just mix them into one old shampoo bottle and use it (it's too fiddling to open a sachet each time - and each sachet will do at least two washes).
GreyQueen - thanks for the reminder about onions etc in pound shops - will go and investigate.
Ragz: that's great that the cheques turned up ok.
Hope everyone's coping with the weather.0 -
Happy New Year everyone.
Oh my - it's blowing a gale here. Thanks for the reminders re poundland and the garden stuff, must get myself over to our nearest one pronto - only problem the town it's in always really depresses me still needs must. May use it as a delay tactic to put off doing my essay this afternoon when OH gets back from work! As usual I am down to the wire and hating writing the blinkin thing - this module will be very useful in the long term but it's very dry.
Got a lovely set of foam floor tiles with game boards printed on them from Matalan in the sale yesterday as DS is rolling everywhere and keeps throwing himself off the rug (and we have laminate) but DD just keeps dismantling them and organising them by colour - it's her thing! Most of the games are a bit advanced yet but will be good in the future and in the meantime it will save bumps if only DD will leave it on the floor. Also got some nice clothes for all of us - got a bit carried away but thankfully MIL had given us her £20 card from the Mail so it actually cost very little. MIL is also taking us for lunch next week and getting OH some boots for his birthday so we'll be all smartly kitted out for the year then!
DD was granted some funding for a holiday so we are booked to go to centre parc in March, accommodation and kids club for DD paid for just need to fund any other activities and meals. You can book and pay for loads online so I'm doing a couple of things each month between now and then so most of it will be paid for before we get there - yay! Booked a family photo shoot and a carvery meal yesterday, thought it would be lovely to have a memento of the hol as it will be our first and I'm sure both sets of grandparent will love to have a copy of a properly done photo. Will be booking some messy play sessions and a go at pottery painting next month. So looking forward to it!!!
Hey Sammy - good to see you back, it's well worth swapping fuel suppliers to get the best price but if your DD is higher at the moment because you are paying back beware that you will need to pay it off in full before you can switch! So you may need to wait. Different people have vastly different experiences of suppliers so it's hard to recommend, I personally had a load of hassle with NPower but have friends who swear by them and we're in such different areas of the country too, that may effect it. On the other hand my ExH wouldn't touch British Gas with a bargepole (mind you he's been so rude to them they're probably rather glad!!!)0 -
7WW - shampoo - I do this. I have short hair so don't need much shampoo and get at least 2 washes out of a sachet. I don't like having the open sachets around so I snip and squeeze into a bottle. Just because it was free doesn't mean I'm not going to be frugal with it :rotfl:
Very windy, very wet now - luckily I got out early for my blood test at the hospital when it was still dry. Called in at Mr S and Mr M on the way home but no bargains I fancied so I spent nothing :T. I've been reminding myself that at the moment I have all I need by reorganising various cupboards and drawers to keep me aware of their contents
I'm very achy after my mishap yesterday - it hurts to move my arms and my hip is sore :(and so just hunkering down in a big fleece jumper.
Oops - lights just flickered, think I'll make a flask of tea and fill my hot water bottle just in case of a power cut."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Oh brilliant ragz I bet you managed to raise more than a smile when you opened the cheque envelope. Just shows how much the post is higgledy piggildy over the festive period. Posted Christmas Eve wasn't it?
Disaster! I have washed my living room curtains (4 curtains round the bay window) and they have shrunk over two inches. They don't even reach below the actual window pane now. I'm really annoyed and stumped about what to do because we can't afford to replace them yet. What an expensive thing to do! I wish I had left them now, if it had happened in the spring it wouldn't have mattered much :huh:_pale_:wall:
