Sammy - if you will save money then go for it - the not being able to switch whilst in debit is a pain - but I seem to think there is a thing about allowing a switch if the debit is below a certain amount so worth doing a little investigation.
Stiltwalker - we covered our whole dining room in those tiles in the last house, kids loved them, but the funniest was the teenagers (DD17 friends) who used to love them more!!0 -
Oh brilliant ragz I bet you managed to raise more than a smile when you opened the cheque envelope. Just shows how much the post is higgledy piggildy over the festive period. Posted Christmas Eve wasn't it?
Disaster! I have washed my living room curtains (4 curtains round the bay window) and they have shrunk over two inches. They don't even reach below the actual window pane now. I'm really annoyed and stumped about what to do because we can't afford to replace them yet. What an expensive thing to do! I wish I had left them now, if it had happened in the spring it wouldn't have mattered much :huh:_pale_:wall:
can you sew a contrasting panel in ? Either top bottom or middle, our new dining room curtains (dunelm mill is amazing!!) have a panel at top in gold whilst reat of curtain is black.
If they are patterned a plain contrast colour would be good or if they are plain why not a pattern to add a highlight?0 -
Blimey its a tad blustery here today
Epsom racecourse which is not too far from here, has lost part of its roof, hope everyone stays safe!

Been sorting out my seeds for the new gardening year..thats probably why its tiddling down :rotfl:we were going to the garden centre and out to attack the back today.Best laid plans eh??
Currently sitting here in my new fleecy jim jams and dressing gown still
Must get moving and do some baking with DS3 he wants to do some bread and we all fancy pizza for tea hope everyone has a great day
Fuddle just spotted your post do you have any excess at the top where the curtain tape is sewn on?? If so undo the tape, let the top hem down then replace the tape and it won't show as much as letting the bottom seam down.

So you may need to wait. Different people have vastly different experiences of suppliers so it's hard to recommend, I personally had a load of hassle with NPower but have friends who swear by them and we're in such different areas of the country too, that may effect it. On the other hand my ExH wouldn't touch British Gas with a bargepole (mind you he's been so rude to them they're probably rather glad!!!)
Hi Stilt Walker - nice to be back.
Our DD are higher because there was confusion swapping over when we moved into our house and for about a month we were sort of sat in limbo with old and new suppliers.
Have decided to go with NPower as in the long run they will be saving us money each month, as well as the DD discount and I went through Greasy Palm too and got myself £20 cashback.
Plus we are rather fortunate that our last gas bill was only £29 for 3 months as we dont have a bath (electric shower) and hopefully come the summer our usage will drop right down as we now have a nice big garden to let the kids run wild in.
KIDCAT - thanks and good idea on the curtains.
D&DD ~ hello stranger! I too have made myself a seed box today from an old baby milk box and had all the best laid plans to sort my garden as soon as minnie monster was sleeping. Oh well..........Time to find me again0 -
Famous last words - power has just been off for about 10 minutes. I had just enough time to make the tea before it went. Definitely filling the hot water bottles now - CH is gas but electric fired and everything else is electric. I'd better sort out the candle cupboard as well just in case.
Fuddle - might be worth hanging the curtains to see if they drop. Have you ironed them - if not, then that will probably help too - the fabric may have tightened up rather than shrunk, like jeans do."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Brilliant, thanks ladies. I've calmed down. No haven't ironed them. Will do that now. I can take down the seams! There's more than enough spare. Looks like a big job as I haven't a machine but either way I'll be able to save them.
I'm hoping an iron will at least have them fall below the pain. The hem I can wait to do when I get a machine. Never rains!0 -
 Sammy

I've won 2 tickets to see The Lady Killers in London, but I can't go. Or very unlikely. Can't remember entering. I wonder if they can be transferred to someone else. I need to ask.
Weather awful here in the South West; went out, but my wipers were on very fast at one stage! Lots of fallen branches and huge puddle on the road.0 -
A few minutes ago the sky went black and I needed to put the lights on. In the middle of the day! Then rain absolutely belted down, so hard I couldn't see the buildings on the other side of the river. And the wind! Still, it turned out to be a flash in the pan (or the complete opposite but I can't think of a suitable simile). All calm here now, thank goodness.
My darling, sainted sister gave me some much appreciated cash for part of my Christmas present and I went to Asda yesterday and p!ssed away a whole TWELVE POUNDS on luxury items that I really don't need. A pair of those cosy fleece pajama-bottoms for when the weather eventually turns bitter which I'll wear for house-trousers and a cute little hand-mixer for my baking adventures. I sent her a text to tell her what I'd wasted some of the money on and she called me a "profligate flaming wastrel". Hehe. Meanwhile I've got the princely sum of sixty quid to put towards groceries for the next couple of months or pay a bill or two with it. The other sister gave me an M&S voucher-card thingy which will go together with the other one she gave me for my birthday in summer. I'm hanging onto those for when there's something I'm in desperate need of, maybe some new underthings when the current lot have given up the ghost completely. Ain't life just grand sometimes? Hooray for lovely and generous sisters!
Now, can't chat. I've got some baking to do.0 -
I have tried this recipe and it is really good (i reduced the sugar to one tablespoon with no problems)
http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/994/best-bread-machine-loaf.aspx

Thanks very much JIL. I've taken copies. I had no idea that you can just take random recipes and put them in your BM. Thought you had to use the instructions given for the particular BM.
Why did I start my diet yesterday? Am chomping at the bit to try out all the suggestions given to me yesterday
Gotta dash. Am at work (but getting my daily fix of MSE, albeit in a hurry)
