Ah...but the positive side to having clothes 10-15 years old is that that must mean you haven't changed size (ie put on weight) in that time. So, wear those clothes with pride, as a sign to yourself that you haven't put on weight:beer:
(Though they can get a bit tight now and again)

Wind 'tis awful this morning. Not mine I hasten to add!
I am writing on my calendar each time I make a purchase or put petrol in the car. That way we both can see what I'm spending and DH can say 'woah there misses' and vice versa. It's simple but works for us, without being too strict and methodical.
DH starts his new job today. I'm nervous for him.
Broth and steamed fruit pudding for dinner tonight.
I have some good news! I have something to look forward to. My sister has invited me along (with her friends, yikes - we're so different!) to a day out shopping in York and then afternoon tea in Betty's Tearooms. That afternoon tea will cost £17 can you believe! Still, it's not till March and looking forward to a bit of a sophisticated treat
She has warned me that we're not going into charity shops because she doesn't want me to embarrass her. Fair enough it is her birthday day, I shall refrain and just look on as I see their credit card being handed over in a multitude of shops. I think I will try to save a little pot for me to treat myself on a cool pair of tights, scarf or bangle or something. Apparently Primark is in (weird I think, nothing wrong with Primark at all and I shop there sometimes myself. Just to be so snobby over CS and think Primark is cool) and there maybe some nice florally/vintage-esk accessories in there as it'll be the spring.
Anyway, yes something nice to look forward to and a new savings pot to label up. My sewing machine fund is on the back burner now but that's ok.
Hope everyone is ok today. Think i'll stay indoors in this weather so looking forward to spending the day with you all0 -
Oh crikey, I hope I have the correct bags. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/15837/Lakeland-Vegetable-Preserving-Bag please check before you head off into Lakeland inthe hope of getting a freebie bag
Ah, no - these are the ones I meant
http://www.lakeland.co.uk/1094/20-Stayfresh-Longer-Bags-25-x-38cm
They really work, especially for broccoli and mushrooms.
But I too, rarely have any problem finding things to spend money on in Lakeland so my voucher is burning a hole in my purse as I type!!It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Wow the wind here is horrible.
Morning all
Thank you whoever posted the lakeland links - I need to get a few more storage things and have just seen their soup bags, ideal to freezer in the box freezer and then I can pop them in the big chest freezer once cold. I dont have nearly enough storage things and would be nice to be able to make up some meals ready and in advance. Must get using the contents of my freezer first though!
Well we are snobby nose central here today between me and holly.
Feeling kind of relieved though because I was going to go to town today - its about a 10 - 15 minute bus ride in and hollys waterproof for her buggy has seen much better days so I think I'll give it a miss. I was meant to pay the rent/water before christmas so I'm sure one more day wont harm them! Doh! although if it calms down enough later I may go in - or if Owen is home early.
Plan of action for today is clean the kitchen and bathroom, tidy the living room (although attempt is more the appropriate word with a 7 year old and an 18 month old) build a LEGO Alien Compound Force Truck (its huge! and a competition prize I won that Ive been putting off building for about a week for Ben) and go through freezer contents.
Oh jesus - think its pretty safe to say my daughter is feeling slightly better - shes just scoffed a round of jam sandwiches and is now sat attemptign to break into the roses tin!
Got to say on that note I am happy with myself there has been 3 tins of chocolates in this house - one roses, one quality street and one hero's and I have eaten precisely.....................0.....nada....none....zilch!:D:D my will power is there evidently - although the two large boxes of maltesers that I had as gifts would have been impolite to refuse now wouldnt it! :rotfl:
can I ask a bill related question please? Ive always been the type to stick to what I know . I've always - even in my mum and dads house - been with swalec for both gas and electric. Currently with them - thanks to their mess up moving house etc - I am now on a £57 DD for gas and a £63 DD for electric a month for 6 months - then it drops down to £35 and £40.
I just compared them as Owen rung saying a workmate had a letter from EDF offering them £150 help if he had a child under 5. (might help someone!) and I have looked into gas/electric supplies and its telling me that at present if I swap to NPower then they could save me £143 on my bill. Plus even when my DD is due to drop they will still be saving me £105 on what Swalec were charging me.
Do you think it would be worth switching suppliers? I think Im looking for some wisdom please and to see if its a good idea or not. Anyone had problems with them?Time to find me again0 -
OH is back at work & son is back at college so normality returns:j
I love them dearly but the house is cool again & I know that what I decide is for tea won't be eaten beforehand or moaned about as they each want something different but can't decide what.
I'm going restore some semblence of order to everywhere! Bliss:DTry to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
The wind here has blown bins over and assorted rubbish has been bowling down our street. Why do people not put their rubbish into bags (green bin) before putting it in the bin?
The sun has come out so hopefully it will chase the wind away.
Nothing like Mother Nature to make us count our blessings that the bins are all we have to worry about in adverse weather.
I'm thinking of Bangladesh, the Phillipines etc, etc, and feel so lucky to be here instead of there." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Hear there are gusts of over 100 mph in Scotland! OMG..stay safe, everyone in the North, stay safe.Normal people worry me.0

Morning all, I am up relatively early but gales blwoing here too; bird feeders fallen over, bins scattered round the garden. Need to go out but hard to motivate myself; mornings are worse for me depression wise and the last 2 have been hard.
OK, will catch up later, and make myself get dressed and go out; no debit card with me just my purse!
OK, I can do this...

Hi
Yet another lurker being drawn in to the chat. I love catching up with you ladies every day. It's so reassuring to know that I'm not the only pinny wearing, baking, cleaning, home cooking, non shopping 34 year old out there!!
I too would like to make some RL friends, but have no clue how. Have this weird tendency to assume everyone hates me, or 'puts up' with me out of politenessnot sure why I believe this cos I'm lovely really
Anyhoo, just wanted to say hi, and to break the news gently to Fuddle - sorry hun, we don't have a Primark in York. I know not why, but there you have it. Our nearest is Harrogate, which also has a Betty's and much much better charity shops!!
Take care all, hope the wind calms down

Very windy here but not 100 mph! I feel for everyone dealing with that.
Just had 4 kilos of red onions delivered instead of 4. If I made some kind of red onion marmalade now I wonder if it would still be OK by Xmas? Could get started on hamper contents already if so! Although DH will moan about storing them. I aspire to be clutter-free but I seem to do nothing but create clutter, Im sure there must be a lesson to be learnt somewhere.0
