    Oh I need some strong virtual hugs. After 24 hours agonising pain ct scan has pinpointed a constricted bowel. So am now back on IV everything. If it doesnt sort itself out in 48 hours then it's back to the operating theatre for me & no chance of being home for Christmas. I'd have a good cry if I could blow my nose but drain tube from my stomach won't let me.

    Oh Taurus :( I am so sorry to hear that... Not much I can say that will help but sending virtual hugs and healing thoughts your way (((hugs)))

    I hope that the IV helps and that you make a miraculous recovery... Christmas IS the time of miracles, after all :)

    Aww Taurus. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

    You can have all the hugs I've got, gently though.
    Really hope it passes for you.

    Fuddle, I'm afraid like some of the others here, I have a tendency to just say what I think and I probably would have said something unpleasant to them. Though I've never been know to hide my frugal/homemade/baking self at all, which sometimes gives people a surprise, but they're never rude to me when they realise I'm proud of it. At a very posh wedding (about $200 a head, no idea why we were invited, think the groom was short on numbers and was a primary school friend of hubbys) someone asked where my dress came from, you should have seen her face when I told her a charity shop for $10, and the shoes were $3!

    I don't see the pride or skill in being able to spend a lot of money on nice things, but there is pride and skill in being able to spend less money and find nice things second hand or make them yourself. Buying things in John Lewis is hardly a special skill, filling a hamper with homemade goodies is.

    Toughies, can I ask you a question? Have any of you used a good, back to basics cook book, even a Oldsyle war time cook book. I'm trying to serach the MSE archives but it's a mine field of every kind of cookbook and cooking thread possible.

    Is there anything 'toughie' related cook book that you would recommend?

    icontinuetodream it was Eleanor Roosevelt who said 'You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.'
  • Another gentle hug for you here too Taurusgb - I'll keep everything crossed that it sorts itself out and you get home in time for Christmas.

    3v3 I know we should have been putting money aside and I guess we're fortunate that we can manage to pay the extra amounts for the council tax, but it means things will be a bit tighter than I would like going into the New Year. Plus I'm annoyed that over the summer I tried for ages to get hold of the CT folk by phone - got nowhere, so sent them a letter, and then heard nothing - until now: grrrr.
