Sorry for you Taurus. Just think though - when they let you out you'll be a super remodelled version of yourself with full MOT.

    Thinking of you.
  • Oh Taurus, I really hope you're home from Christmas. You poor thing.

Flipping heck Taurus, it's just not fair is it? All you've had to go through and now this. Have a good cry and a big moan if you feel like it, if anyone is entitled to it's you.

Fuddle - do a search for Bernadine Lawrence, back in the 80's (70's?) she had a book about feeding a family on about £1 a day or something like that. There's also Marguerite Patten's We'll Eat Again, which is wartime recipes and is on Amazon for 1p plus postage. For modern day simple recipes google "4 ingredients". Delia's Cheats book also has good pointers.

Toughies, can I ask you a question? Have any of you used a good, back to basics cook book, even a Oldsyle war time cook book. I'm trying to serach the MSE archives but it's a mine field of every kind of cookbook and cooking thread possible.

Is there anything 'toughie' related cook book that you would recommend?

Hope you don't mind me joining in:o

fuddle - I've just bought this book which is very basic and includes meal plans, shopping lists etc. Very MSE and great if you have a family to feed, I love it :D

doesnt this defeat the point of money saving make it with water???

hhmm I think it's just the Scottish way to make it with water. Sometimes I make it half and half though if I have milk to use up. Also think it fills me up for longer. I like cold milk on top, haven't tried it with cream though, yum.

Ed to add - caught up with the thread now...
(((taurus))) - thinking of you and hoping you feel more comfortable v soon.

  • phew caught up - you guys can talk! Taurus hope things improve for you soon, and sorry to hear sad happenings in folks' lives - it really is getting tougher isn't it? Fuddle excellent job news, you must be delighted.

I'm hearing that the weather is to be milder up to christmas - give us chance to clear the debris from the garden - we lost the arch over the gate but managed to save the jasmine growing over it. The chucks were fine and started to lay for the first time, which is great - was beginning to think with the short days that we might have to wait until spring. Hopefully they'll keep going now.
