Just popping in to say how inspiring and thought-provoking I've been finding everybody's posts. Fuddle, I can't really add anything to what other folk have said, other than there are some people out there with very warped priorities,
I've been feeling a bit fed up (something to do with the Council Tax people telling me less than two weeks before Christmas that they are doubling our payments for this month and next month. I told them in August I was going to stop being a student and so no longer qualified for 25% discount, so why do they have to wait until now to adjust our payments ) But a combination of the great conversations on this thread and a batch of Softstuff's mincemeat drops has helped put things back into perspective.0 -
Hi Guys,
apologies for the dearth of posts, been dealing with a couple of nasty happenings in RL - all over now and the westcoast household is happy and settled again.
Hope everyone survived the recent bad weather - shall try and read back over the next few days,

Sorry, de-lurking to say a tenner?! For a tooth?! What planet do these people live on? And home made hampers are for people who can't be bothered to go to the shops? If any of these people had ever tried putting a hamper together they'd soon change their tune.0

(although, they would argue, if challenged, if you knew since August, you should have put the money aside so it didn't hit so hard at this time of year). Not helpful, I know, but I was just trying to see it from both sides.
Is it possible to "miss" one payment so that it comes from the Jan/Feb payment instead of the Dec/Jan payment? I always thought that your bill had to be settled by the March deadline? I could be wrong. If it is going to be a serious struggle for you, may I suggest that you contact your CAB pronto? You will not be the only person in this economic climate that cannot produce the money before the end of the financial year - maybe they could write to the council (or advice you how to) as long as it is paid before the end of the financial year? Is that do-able?0 -

Re the people who are total snobs and feel superior to those who don't have the latest gear/live in the right place etc....
I have been known, on more than one occasion, to smile at them with a look of pity on my face, tell them that I think it is tragic that they have so little self-worth that they have had to become a marketing mans dream and that I truly hope that one day they may find themselves becoming less of a sheep and gaining an identity...but as they are unavailable in the shops, it's unlikely
Don't know who said it but one of my favourite sayings is 'you wouldn't worry about what people think, if you realised how seldom they do' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
