Good Morning everybody!
Christmas can be stressful for so many people in so many ways. I know it is hard not to worry that something will go wrong but it really doesn't matter if things aren't perfect.
How many days of the year can we look back on & say they were 'perfect'?
Not many I bet but we survive and tomorrow is another day when we can try again to achieve whatever is important to us & our families.
Following all the talk on here about oats I had porridge for breakfast for the first time in months. Had forgotten how filling it is but it was lovely. Will not be stocking up on oats though as have 3 packs from the 3 for 2 cereal offer in Tescos the other month & that's enough for me.
After having an op on my left hand in January I was back at the Drs yesterday as have the same problem developing in my right hand now. I can't take certain painkillers because they hurt my stomach so I had a steroid injection & told to come back when it wears off in a few weeks & Dr will refer me to hospitable for another op.
The jab seems to be working but I'm now going to test it out with a bit of ironing.
Take care and try not to get stressed (says she who can stress for England & could get a gold medal if it was an Olympic event)0 -
reminded me of something written by Naomi Wolf about her experience of having to have an emergency c-section and seeing herself in the reflection of the glass door all cut open............gah!
GQ x
Now you see GQ I actually watched both my c-sections in the overhead lightshades, it was like watching a tv programme. We had been warned not to look in the doorplates as we might see something but to me it was fascinating.

My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
Late start for me today; overslept and woken by the phone ringing from a horrible dream!
Poochy wolfed her porridge down, made with water last night and heated up in the microwave this morning, but I think for myself I will add some milk to the water; I'm a wimpy southerner!0 -
Make it with water then pour single cream on top when you eat it0

For those of us who were discussing taking vitamin D this is interesting.

Goodbye SAD!!!!!Now you see GQ I actually watched both my c-sections in the overhead lightshades, it was like watching a tv programme. Weird I know
I sooooo wish I had watched my C Section - I would have loved to watch my twins born but just didn't think about it at the time0 -
Just a quick vent.
Been to library to make Christmas crafts with the children. A few grandparents there and a few mum's with their children. I have never felt so ridiculed in my life. They were having a discussion about their children's teeth falling out. My little one has lost one of her teeth. They asked her how much the tooth fairy gave her and she replied 50p. "50p! 50p! I gave my kid a tenner for two teeth he lost in two days. You wanna have a word with the toothfairy!" They then laughed at me and smirked throughout the session. Even the older grandparents who I know in their heart of hearts must have thought there was nothing wrong with giving 50p for a lost tooth decided that they would join in with the locals. Now my little girl thinks the tooth fairy doesn't like her very much. Sometimes I bludy despair. I can give my kids £2 , even £5 per tooth but I choose not to as it leaves my budget short and my child is over the moon with her loot anyway.
I was also earwigging into a conversation a couple of them were having about gift hampers. John Lewis and the like gift hampers would be realy good but homemade ones, nope, they are just for tightwads who can't be a*sed to go to the shops.
I am really quite pleased my face doesn't fit in this village. I don't want to fit. Once I get use of my car in January when DH starts his job I'm off to the shops in the next village down. They're a much nicer group of people as they tend to be outsiders coming in as opposed to a village stuck in their ignorance.
I know, it's just a couple of people's attitudes and I shouldn't let it bother me, and to a point I'm not. I just find it so rude and rudeness I cannot abide.0 -
Fuddle- my kids get a pound each ( because I usually have a coin for trolleys in my bag when I have no other money). Having a child who has pulled out several teeth I would be loathe to give any more ( even if I could afford to) as it doesn't encourage good dental hygiene. Next time point out that for ten pounds there's no incentive to kids to look after their teeth.:) I now have a rule that only naturally fallen teeth are visited, tooth fairy refuses to visit pulled teeth, either dentist or self pulled.
Ignore you snooty neighbours its their loss.0 -
Aww Fuddle, what absolutely horrible people:eek:
Evil it may be but I would tell DD that obviously the tooth fairy didn't go to them as she always gives 50p. Tell her that the parents of the other kids must have done it themselves and that it wasn't the tooth fairy at all:D. That she is special because she is the one who DID get the visit.
Make sure you can trust her not to tell though.... don't want it making more trouble for her if she spills the beans at school and it gets around especially her friends0 -
Just wanted to say what a great forum and brilliant thread!!!
I'm new to MSE and how glad I've found it.
I had my hours reduced from 4 days to 3 day last year and we were able to cope - needed to be careful and got rid of my car and now share DH's motor (not that he's happy about it but hey ' need to economise dear':rotfl:)
Just had my hours reduced by a further 20% - hopefully just for 2 months but really depends on the companies sales picking up - added to which I've had to have time off for a couple of ops - need major surgery early next year when I will be off for 8 - 10 weeks SSP only - so getting very anxious about how we will manage.
Just wanted to say a huge thanks to you all who have posted some great tips and ideas on here - I will certainly be trying some of them.
And Fuddles - feel for you! Nothing worse than living in a snobby village. I live in a small market town and while we have our share of snobs we are fortunate to have more nicer down to earth REAL people too0 -
Fuggle i dont normal post much but i do follow everyone and just would to say i had this problem with my sons farther, i gave him 50p for a tooth , his dad gave him £10 when my lad asked me why i told him his tooth fairy was a young one and couldent carry a £10 note as it was bigger than her, and the tooth fairy who went to his dads must off been an older one who had been doing it for years so was bigger, but his tooth fairy had never been to anyone else and he was her first little boy and she would be upset if she knew someone had upset him over how much another fairy could carry. He was so proud of his tooth fairy struggling to carry his 50p he even told his dad he prefered his own special one. Do hope this may help your little one in some way, and take no notice of them they are sad people who have to out do everyone, wishing you and everyone a happy christmas x
ps forgot to say son is now 20 with his own daughter lol and never forgot his tooth fairy0
