Does anyone else take food grade DE?

I thought I would start a thread about taking food grade Diatomaceous Earth - also known as fossil flour or diatom powder - as a health supplement. Although it's mentioned on here a lot as flea control, I don't see any mention of the internal benefits to humans.
Edit: I am shortening my original post because crocswearer said it sounded like spam!
For those of you who don't know what diatom poweder is, it is a non-toxic, non-chemical, edible form of fossil flour that can be taken internally. It is lethal to internal parasites but harmless to you and me. It clears up so many health problems that it can potentially save you a LOT of money as well as saving you the nasty side-effects from toxic prescriptions. The side effects of DE are all GOOD ones!
If anyone wants to join the DE challenge for better health and check in every now and then to let us know how you're getting on, feel free! I've just recently started taking it myself and am thrilled with the results so far, but it's a bit soon to tell as I'm still going through detox. I have become rather enthusiastic about it and wanted to pass the message on. It's early days yet but it seems to be helping me with my IBS and my acne ALREADY! :j I also lost three pounds in the first two days but this was just water weight due to the DE flushing out my bladder and making me pee.
Benefits:
Eliminates worms and parasites without the need for nasty expensive poisons (GREAT for dogs and cats but works in humans too!)
Lowers blood pressure
Lowers bad cholesterol
Increases unrine production by up to 30% (it's a diuretic) thus clears up UTIs and kidney problems
Clears up skin conditions (acne, excema, dermatitis, etc etc)
Reduces food cravings, intolerances and allergies
Regulates appetite
Cleans out the digestive system
Clears up both diahorrea and constipation
Improves concentration
Increases energy
etc etc
There are a number of places that sell it online but make sure you buy FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth, NOT the kind for water filtration systems that has had chemicals added to it.
Make sure you drink plenty of water when taking DE, or it may constipate you due to its high absorbing qualities drawing water from your stools.
Does anyone else take it apart from me and crocswearer?

Hi bedpotato
I think your thread title and post might read like spam!
However, I am a user of DE too, and notice that if I don't take it for a few days, my finger joints get stiff. I can't "feel" my bad cholesterol reducing, for example, but I can feel the effects of this stuff on my hands!
Cheers, and watch out for the "Spam" alerts...0 -
I am intrigued - please can I ask where you buy your supplies of DE?0

I am not a spammer!
I deliberately did not post any links to places that sell it precisely because I thought people might think I was spamming or trying to sell DE myself. I'm not! I'm just a person who has discovered all the wonderful health benefits it has, and wanted to let people on this forum know, so that they can find relief from the health problems that have been bugging them, as I have found relief from mine. It's just a natural health supplement, that's all, and I am just a person who takes it, who wanted to recommend it to others.
If anyone is interested in taking it, just google "food grade diatomaceous earth" and look for UK pages. I'm not posting any links because I do not want to be accused of spam. Edit: I have changed my title now. I was not aware it sounded like spam. Why do you say that, crocswearer? I'm autistic so I don't perceive things the way other people do. Have I done something wrong?0 -

No, I don't think so, but when you google diatomaceous earth, many of the sites that come up have headlines like the original thread title and then a write up like your original first post. It could therefore be mistaken as spam, I think.
The new thread title looks much better!
I'm glad you started the thread as I'm interested to see what other benefits other people have noticed.0 -
Well my benefits are (DO NOT READ ON IF SQUEAMISH) that I am passing a lot of dead worms I did not know were inside of me! I suspect a lot of us have worms we don't know about! I will continue to take DE all my life just as a precautionary measure to make sure no more worms can ever live inside of me ever again! Also, it's early days, but my acne seems to be getting better. :T:T Maybe my acne was being caused by the worms. I really really hope my skin clears up completely once all the horrid worms are gone, because nothing else I've ever tried has ever made it go away.
Death to the worms! :mad:0 -
I've heard of giving this to animals for worming. I've never considered using it on myself. I think, for me, ignorance is bliss and I don't want to know who or what may have taken up residence inside my bowels, haha!
The dust is harmful, though, isn't it? It has a similar effect on the lungs to asbestos. Is the stuff you're using prepared in such a way that dust isn't released, or are you just being careful/wearing a mask or something?0 -
Well I have ordered some to try as reading up about it`s benefits I have several conditons it may help.
I will post back with results if I have anything of interest to report! Is it a bit sick that I want to see my dead worms etc. just so I know the stuff is working?

I don't understand the people who prefer to stick their heads in the sand and not THINK about the fact that they have worms. Yes it's gross seeing them come out, but they're far better out than in! They cause us all sorts of health problems. Now I know I've got them, I'm desperate to get them all out!
Rinabean, I am not throwing the dust around in the air. I am simply sprinkling some on my food and then mixing it in. As long as you mix it with wet food, not dry, there is no chance of inhaling it.
DO NOT READ ON IF SQUEAMISH:
When I first started taking it, my constipation went away and I had BRILLIANT bowel movements. I was over the moon! Fellow IBS sufferers will understand. Now, however, things have ground to a halt. At first I thought I wasn't drinking enough water and the DE was constipating me, but it's not the DE that's doing it. I'm all blocked up with dead worms and mucus!
I keep having to do enemas to get it out. I can't wait for this detox period to end so I can go back to pooing again!
End of graphic update.0 -
If it was that miraculous for humans wouldn't we know more about it? I've been looking for some kind of concrete evidence, rather than the blurb by people selling it, or by people thinking they have got worms! This is as honest as it gets......
It is important to note that, at this time, there are no diatomaceous earth products that are registered for human consumption (that is why you won't find any instructions on your bag of Red Lake Earth for this purpose). This is due to the fact that not enough testing has been done to prove any long term or short term effects. That being said, many people do consume DE (Red Lake Earth included) and experience very positive results (in fact, many people swear by it) however these results are only anecdotal and not scientific in nature.
Most often DE is used as an anti-caking agent and pelleting aid in livestock feed. As well, it has been increasingly used as a natural insecticide. It is safe to use with nearly all animals (excluding reptiles - as it may dry out their skin - and other animals with pre-existing skin conditions or dust allergies).
Although I cannot make any claims for use with humans (as no scientific studies have been done), in regards to use with animals, it is perfectly safe to feed DE to them while they are pregnant and nursing.
Both pure diatomaceous earth (white in color) and DE with calcium bentonite (grey in color) will work the same for most purposes (including pest control) however, when used in animal feed DE that contains calcium bentonite or montmorillonite is much like feeding your animals brown bread over white bread. This is due to the fact that calcium bentonite contains various micro and macro minerals that are important for health.
It is important that you contact a professional health care practitioner if you have any concerns about using diatomaceous earth.0 -
Interesting thread:) I cant help getting the feeling that this is another jumping on the bandwagon craze, I've done a bit of googling and there are positive reviews from supposed users but I would certainly not want to ingest a product that has not yet been marked fit for human consumption with no reference to long term possible side effects? rinabeans post alarmed me most:eek: I'm staying well clear of this one and you can buy a wormer suitable for humans in Boots if that doesn't sort you out surly a trip to your GP would be best:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0
