So do I. Absolutely. Though since I've been with current employer for a while, I now see what the most outrageously self-inflated guff I can put into them. People who know me laugh, other people tend to take it seriously. Which is also funny...

I got out of work at 1800 on the dot and on the doorstep!! :j

    :T
Am veerrry chuffed with myself. Did mean I ran out on my deputy as we had one more thing to send, but she would only have been 2 mins behind me.

    She's a big girl - she'll cope.
Which brings me to the unexpected side effects of running off [STRIKE]early[/STRIKE] on time... am suffering a little adjustment guilt, but am feeling remarkably light on resentment. I kinda thought I didn't mind staying if work needed doing, but you know what, it turns out I darn well do mind. Who knew? :rotfl:

Are you sure it's not the case of not minding staying if there is an emergency, but having lazy and incompetant co-workers does not constitute an emergency?
then eventually even I got noticeably fed up and informed our mutual boss that this is the kind of problem he gets paid for. So now he can deal with it and it's clearly not MY responsibility if she stuffs up.

    Is he a "sorter-outer" then?
I have always been the person who ends up doing stuff, simply because stuff not getting done properly Bothers me and I kinda thought that just doing it myself would Bother me less... and now I guess I am fed up being Bothered at all.

That is the thing, slackers are poison to a team spirit, they destroy far more productivity than just their own by what is best described as "corrosion".
But I somehow wasn't expecting the answer to be 'well then stand up for yourself, you nutcase'. And yet it's true. I consistently put my own needs last, and not just at work. I deliberately left a bunch of 'lame duck' one-sided friendships behind last time I moved, by simply not giving people my new number unless they actually contacted me on the old one. I've switched a couple of friends off my FB news feed so that they can have their amateur dramatics without me having to watch.

That sort of thing does wear after time. The best way of being ignored is to shout "Look at me!" all the time.
And I have made a little progress this year in accepting that however much effort I make with my family, I am unlikely to get the results I'd like/ need... so I've given up making that effort where it's wasted, and will eventually find a way of giving it where it's appreciated.

That sounds like quite a bit of progress actually.
I suspect I just haven't stopped for long enough to listen to myself before.

:naughty: Always listen to yourself because that's at least one person in your life you're reasonably sure isn't an idiot...
See, I did warn you more musing would happen :o

    'Tis good.

    Better than yesterday...

    Well, that might contribute...

He is more cunning than a fox who used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University, etc... and will find a way of dealing with it much more subtly than my somewhat naive belief that pointing out the problem would enable her to start fixing it.

Well that's good. It's good that some people are like that.
much more subtly than my somewhat naive belief that pointing out the problem would enable her to start fixing it.

The mistake being that she *wants* to fix it.

    I said "reasonably"... ;)

Nothing, because you haven't. You overestimate the vocabulary of my fellow co-workers. The truth is more prosaic...

Have you hovered your mouse yet? :p

  • :rotfl::rotfl: ah yes. Clearly I was overcomplicating the situation, although at least this suggests that your workmates have a sense of humour - there are some of mine I doubt. I guess calling you the Homecoming Queen instead wouldn't help matters? :p

And yes, I know what the hover tip calls it...

No...there are a number of words that should be avoided at all costs, and that phrase has two of them...

I wouldn't say all my workmates have a sense of humour. Some just are dead from the neck upwards, while others are scandalised if you just apply just a couple of layers of euphemism rather than a dozen.

So are you going to follow my example, and see how much you can get away with in a personal statement? "Guru" is a good word...

Possibly not for this application. There will be plenty of rather arrogant sorts going for it and this might well be why they have dropped the statement and started focusing on the criteria.

I might try it for the next lot who send me a LinkedIn invite for a totally irrelevant job though :D

'Night you, hope you feel better again tomorrow.

Shock! Horror! They may actually want this job doing by someone who can do the job! Pass me the smelling salts!
