    1. I declined to take out a storecard - the £2.50 discount just wasn't worth the time, hassle and risk of temptation

    Was this a one-off discount?
    2. I was amazed how much healthier and happier I looked than last winter :rotfl:. I used to go in the same store on the way back from college, wearing the same clothes, but feeling completely wiped out and hassled - usually just shopping for something to make me feel better, because I thought I didn't have time to do anything more interesting. Yesterday I didn't get round to putting concealer on but my skin still looked good, I didn't have dark circles, I didn't have the spots and dry skin I was getting last year (probably from being stressed and eating carp) and I didn't have last winter's muffin top either (well not so much of one... there might be a slight inclination, but then it's always a balance between slightly smaller waist or maximum cleavage :rotfl:)

A cleavage doesn't need to be big, provided you use it wisely.
So I guess sleep and sanity are good for me :D

As indeed they should be. Also being a bit happier from less stress should be making its mark too...
    • Didn't have breakfast as I was in a hurry leaving, and didn't have time to sort soup and toast at work - so got in tonight and realised that my food intake for the day amounted to 1 sandwich, 1/2 bar nut chocolate and 5 caramels. This has got to stop. (At least I had plenty of water.) Do have food for rest of week and will be going to Sainsbugs to pick up muffin tin and ingredients for emergency breakfast muffins.

I know this is somewhat hypocritical ( but I have an excuse)... but eat properly.
Right, now I am going to put Peggy Lee on and cook something :)

Peggy Lee? That's going back a bit...
    Probably back later

    No, no..."I'll be back."

    Arnie didn't equivocate... ;)

Would probably have meant later offers but I gave up the last card for that store because they weren't worth it and I rarely shop there anyway. So not really worth the extra credit account on my record.

Probably better I don't ask for further advice... ;)

:eek: I don't have a whole lot in common with Arnie and I don't think I want to start now... Though I could probably do a better job of running California.

Oh and as we were discussing one 70s rock icon the other day , this other one might amuse you

To be fair to Arnie, he did all could to stop it from happening. But when he said "you can't keep writing blank checks" and the voters said "Oh yes you can" - well, they are only reaping what they have sown.

This was quite a good interview if you're interested in that sort of thing.

I thought it was very cleverly done - someone with talent and too much time. I did laugh at this one however...

Hm, I suspect our differences may lie in the interpretation of 'wisely'.

    It's just like photography:
    • Stay alert, opportunity arises without booking an appointment.
    • Make sure you're pointing in the right direction.
    • A long time needs little exposure.
    • A lot of exposure needs a short time.
    • Try not to wobble too much.
    • Take a cloth and spare batteries.

Hmm, maybe we have something in common this week after all. Or perhaps I'm working with disguised Californians.

"We can't sign this contract because you are already saying the work will cost more to do than we will get paid.
But we already agreed the contract.
Well you shouldn't have, agreeing to do work at impossible rates is unsustainable. And I'm not signing it.
But we want to do the work and they are a good customer.
We still can't do work we don't get paid for. Your colleagues need their salaries.
    But your rates are nasty.
The rates are sensible and you agreed them.
You are only doing this because you are a nasty management type person who wants to control everything.
No, I am doing this because I don't want to do the explaining when we run out of money and have to cut staff.
You are still a nasty management type person who doesn't understand our work and the pressure of our responsibilities.
OK, explain to me how any of that prevents you understanding the rules about how much we charge to do work.
Oh but we are not management and so we can't be expected to understand your horrible rules.
So you don't understand it but thought you'd just change it, and you are more responsible and higher paid than I am but can't be expected to consider the impact of your actions on your own staff.
Ah but we've never had to do it this way before, you just don't understand how the public sector works...
I think you'll find I have some background in the public sector, when are you going to realise that THERE IS NO MORE MONEY and This Time You Really Do Have To Work To The Budget" :wall::mad: :wall:

    Sorry, rant over :o

  • Mini-challenge fail: left work at 1808. Not really any option as had to nag someone else about info I need for one of my staff to choose between jobs tomorrow.

Managed breakfast, forgot we were supposedly getting fed in meeting so didn't have lunch beforehand, but had also forgotten exactly how bad meeting sandwiches are. Ate chocolate instead, had toast when I got in, about to go and make stir fry. Successful experiment last night with the microwave rice cooker I bought ages ago and hadn't used - should be great now have figured out timing (as no instructions).

Fairly rubbish day at work but might motivate me to do a bit more of online application later.

Oh and not a sniff of picket lines - must look on local news, they probably shipped everyone to one spot.

    However, NSD :j

Ah but we've never had to do it this way before, you just don't understand how the public sector works...

There lies the crux of the problem. Before, money was basically limitless in the larger organisations in the public sector. If someone screwed up and blew the budget, they'd go doe-eyed to their manager, who'd go doe-eyed to someone else, and the money would appear. Needless to say, this encourages the "we'll just do it with half-arsed planning and no forethought and worry about it tomorrow".

    This has changed...
I think you'll find I have some background in the public sector, when are you going to realise that THERE IS NO MORE MONEY and This Time You Really Do Have To Work To The Budget" :wall::mad: :wall:

Some people are institutionalised, and can not accept change. They will continue to operate the same way they always operated. Eventually they will be a glaring anachronism. It would be nice to think they'd be shown the door, but other people who can not accept change either will keep them.

I know where you're coming from...
Managed breakfast, forgot we were supposedly getting fed in meeting so didn't have lunch beforehand, but had also forgotten exactly how bad meeting sandwiches are.

No they're not - they're superb. If you ever come under any sort of gunfire, running with the sandwiches placed over vital organs will ensure that you escape unharmed...
    Ate chocolate instead,

    :naughty:
had toast when I got in, about to go and make stir fry.

    Proper eating then.
Successful experiment last night with the microwave rice cooker I bought ages ago and hadn't used -

    IT LIVES!!!
