    Says Wikipedia...

You want to be careful of that, Wikipedia can lead you astray...
The definition of geek has changed considerably over time, and there is no longer a definitive meaning. The terms nerd, gimp,

    This is a gimp:

    n7612-lux_fetish_gimp_mask_with_leash.jpg
    dweeb, dork,

A dork is a penis. Strange but true...
A person who relates academic subjects to the real world outside of academic studies; for example, using multivariate calculus to determine how they should correctly optimize the dimensions of a pan to bake a cake.

Now that's interesting, how does one "optimize the dimensions of a pan"? Mr Pan...meet Mr Hammer...
A person who has chosen concentration rather than conformity; one who passionately pursues skill (especially technical skill) and imagination, not mainstream social acceptance.
A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream.

In the days of Dr Strangelove, these were known as "preverts"...
And I notice you still didn't answer the question - so will just send you a (hug) in case needed.

    Aww...tankoo :kisses3:
:o err, yeah. Should probably frame recent post of Lula's about size of wardrobe relative to that of social life.

As in "If it's a wardrobe big enough to fit Narnia in, you're probably not going out very often?"
And fortunately, he has been steered in the direction of fajita kits.

I like those too - just far too big for one alas.

    Plans:
    • Get onto job application portal and investigate.
    • If not already tearing hair in frustration at getting access, ensure break to calm down from anxiety at what they are probably asking. Then enter basics.

You've got to be in it to win it...
    • Must get early night as have to be in city for obscene hour of Monday morning.

Good luck with that. I certainly don't envy you...

True. Though your definition will have me grinning at inappropriate moments when reading Ince, Goldacre, Cox etc.

:rotfl: now that's an interesting idea, but Narnia is a bit twee to entertain me for very long without exiting in annoyance or causing deliberate uproar. A wardrobe containing Middle-Earth would be much more fun.

Yes. Apparently I also have to figure out whether or not a speed camera accusation that resulted in a course instead of points counts as a speeding ticket (preferably without emailing potential employer), find three references for the past two years all of whom are supposed to be supervisors (like many adults, I am not in the habit of moving jobs within 2 years), and grind my teeth at having to fill in each page to the satisfaction of the Page Save Demon before being allowed to see what will be asked on the next one. This is besides the contradictory advice on whether I should fill out the basic registration info.:mad::mad:

Sigh. It's not like I expected anything better, but all the same.

Well it was some consolation that I could have a half day's TOIL to compensate for the travel time, but if I end up wasting it on the flamin' application portal that will not be as consoling as I thought...

Talking about inappropriate, I was going to put a joke here, but I resisted... :A

Now that depends on whether you watch the films (or telly) or read the books.

The White Witch was a bit of a goer in the books...

Apart from feeling the glare of Sauron's eye emanating malevolence from your wardrobe. A bit like going past the makeup section of Boots wearing a Body Shop T-Shirt...

I would have said no to that.

That's a hard one. All the jobs I've went for, I've chosen my boss and my boss's boss.

Both, but not since the 80s... I suspect the more recent one had a lot better SFX :rotfl: I read the whole series of 7 - the prequel to LWW is interesting, the couple after are good, then they get very very odd from about halfway through book 5. Certainly the complicated pseudo-religious ending of book 7 was a bit much for me at the time.

Middle Earth has things to compensate for Sauron's Eye - mainly the Rohirrim and Ents...

I think I'm going to. Since my understanding was that the camera ticket is just an accusation, and by avoiding going to court to dispute or accept this, I have therefore avoided the record of an offence.

They're options 1 and 2. 3 will have to be either my matrix manager, or I might see if I can get away with listing a supportive Board member.

And user acceptance testing is not yet a familiar concept in this field.. *sigh*

It's not the SFX that's the problem - it's the child actors. They deliver their lines in a half-shouty, half-whiney voice. That puts me right off at the start before we even get to the magic cupboard and any SFX beyond that.

At least Harry Potter was a lot better in that regard.

    Neo is your manager? ;)

It is. It just isn't done because it's expensive.

    Extensive testing - ditto...

I'm reading reviews on crap films. Don't feel up to doing much more.

    So, not enthralling, no...

But chin up, I'm sure you'll do something more interesting tonight.

Are you going to make me confess I've never watched all of the Matrix?

Hm... possible, but a very kind and optimistic view... given the reaction of some senior decision makers when I have suggested such things, I think awareness is still an issue in this particular field.

  • Usually when I start writing goals for sorting out my life, it includes physical ones. Stuff about my looks, with a supposed aim to boost my confidence.

Am not quite sure why I do this given that I am not actually unhappy with my looks. *Awaits barrage of shrieking from marketing companies and people accusing me of arrogance before having finished reading* My weight is within the normal BMI range, I'm perfectly happy with my shape, and it's not like I'm getting complaints from anyone else :D. I like my hair and the only thing which causes me bother is my skin - and that's stress related so improving now I'm relaxing. I'm not model material and I don't mind. If I eat healthily and keep up some exercise I think that will make more difference than most other things I could try.

I don't want to change the colour of my skin (it really depresses me that half the world is giving themselves melanoma while the rest is using bleaching creams), glue plastic nails to my fingers (I just don't get it), or drastically change my hair colour (I have a naive belief that most people look their best with a colour very close to their natural one as it works with the rest of their colouring). But I feel a bit odd about saying so. Like it would be arrogant. Which doesn't make much sense - I am not suggesting that my looks are better than anyone else's, just that changing them is not a priority for me.

Have I been using goals about changing my looks to distract myself from other issues or fit in with prevailing messages?

Because if I have, that's not much better than deciding it would be sensible to like Bros when I was 9... I rather hoped I'd grown out of crowd-following. (Not that I am naturally gifted at it in the first place :rotfl:)

Of course there is also the angle of looks and the relationship marketplace... but my views on that are not mainstream either and I am too tired to write a tactful and coherent version so that will have to wait.

And after all that drivelling, the only conclusion I have come to is that I'm not adding any looks related goals to my plans :p

    Confess! Confess!

Don't watch the Animatrix though - it's crap...

Thinking that senior decision makers have good knowledge of their field - whatever it is - is a touch optimistic. They're there to think of the cost and not much else.

    "Is this a high priority?"
    "It's a legal requirement."
    "Is it a high priority?"

do you know something here that I don't? :rotfl:

Fab looks related post - great to hear that somebody is satisfied with their lot and taking a sensible approach to staying that way, and staying healthy too :D However, you will never part me from my stuck on plastic nails - I love them :p
