Usually when I start writing goals for sorting out my life, it includes physical ones. Stuff about my looks, with a supposed aim to boost my confidence.

Am not quite sure why I do this given that I am not actually unhappy with my looks. *Awaits barrage of shrieking from marketing companies and people accusing me of arrogance before having finished reading*

    No. That's good.
My weight is within the normal BMI range, I'm perfectly happy with my shape, and it's not like I'm getting complaints from anyone else :D. I like my hair and the only thing which causes me bother is my skin - and that's stress related so improving now I'm relaxing. I'm not model material and I don't mind.

This is good. Because there are some models which are distinctly not attractive.
If I eat healthily and keep up some exercise I think that will make more difference than most other things I could try.

I don't want to change the colour of my skin (it really depresses me that half the world is giving themselves melanoma while the rest is using bleaching creams), glue plastic nails to my fingers (I just don't get it), or drastically change my hair colour (I have a naive belief that most people look their best with a colour very close to their natural one as it works with the rest of their colouring). But I feel a bit odd about saying so.

    Why?
    Like it would be arrogant.

Why would it be? Take the attitude "Just because I'm right, doesn't make me arrogant..."
Which doesn't make much sense - I am not suggesting that my looks are better than anyone else's, just that changing them is not a priority for me.

"Be yourself, because everybody else is already taken."
Have I been using goals about changing my looks to distract myself from other issues or fit in with prevailing messages?

Because if I have, that's not much better than deciding it would be sensible to like Bros when I was 9...

There's nothing wrong with Bros, apart from their singing. Instrument playing was a bit ropey too I guess...
I rather hoped I'd grown out of crowd-following. (Not that I am naturally gifted at it in the first place :rotfl:)

It is never something you can grow out of. It is something you choose out of.
Of course there is also the angle of looks and the relationship marketplace... but my views on that are not mainstream either and I am too tired to write a tactful and coherent version so that will have to wait.

Looks only help in an indirect way. If you look good, you feel confident. If you feel confident, you attract people. Confidence is the key, not the looks.

If you're looking for a long-term relationship, then it has to go beyond looks. Otherwise one day, you will wake up with flu, looking like Death before it has been warmed up in the microwave - and they'll leave you...
    And after all that drivelling,

It's not drivelling. It is introspection. The defining of important personal goals and ambitions.
the only conclusion I have come to is that I'm not adding any looks related goals to my plans :p

Fab looks related post - great to hear that somebody is satisfied with their lot and taking a sensible approach to staying that way, and staying healthy too :D However, you will never part me from my stuck on plastic nails - I love them :p

    Confess! Confess!

OK, I confess. And if I were to tell you the reason I haven't seen it all was being asked to leave the room by sci-fi nut friend for making too many sarky comments - what then?

It can't be any worse - surely?

It's no worse, it's just not much more interesting either. Yet. Maybe I'll think of something.

I was told to shut up beforehand... :o

Actually, I wouldn't have said it was all that sci-fi. Bit more of an action movie.

Still loads of glaring errors to do with the conservation of momentum...

"Not much more" is better than "Not in the slightest". Be happy with the small improvements, and aim to increase them.

What would you *like* to be doing?

Aha, thank you Z, that is a pretty much a nutshell version of what mine would have said. Except that you get to also circumvent the argument about 'but men are too stupid and shallow to respond to anything but looks' so I don't have to do my standard response rant for that one. Result! :j
