Sorry to hear about your Gran. Lots going on for you at the moment. although distraction isn't always the remedy.

    Exciting moving though....I love moving.

How are you finding the poledancing lessons?

Thanks polesalot... you're right distraction isn't always the thing, it's unavoidable for the moment though so am going to just move and then take some time to catch up with myself. I'm not keen on moving itself but am looking forward to being in the flat and having a better social life.

The poledancing so far is one private lesson and the first beginner's class. Both were great fun and I'm really impressed with the teacher - she knows her stuff and really helps boost confidence. I have to have something that occupies my brain as I have a very short attention span, so the more successful things I've tried before are yoga, climbing and martial arts... but climbing means trekking to a wall, I very rarely really want to hit people and yoga just doesn't have the same FUN level - no spins! So pole might just suit me very well. I'm amazed that it's motivated me to start doing daily exercises and am thinking if I stick with it for this class and the next then I must be serious so will see what happens then :)

How long have you been into it? Any hints? :)

Am suddenly completely wiped and just want to sleep... suspect all the drama has caught up with me once I've relaxed. Cancelled wildlife thing tomorrow... :( but can't face heading out at 8.30 and need the time to pack, otherwise things will get even more complicated next week.

Chicken in the oven, with garlic and butter since this should pretty much equal the M&S Cook version I keep meaning to recreate. Also meant I have stayed out of the supermarket again... did run into town to get my eyelashes tinted and pick up Hotel Choc supplies though. (Oddly, having the HC favourites to hand seems to mean I eat less of the Lindt so overall is probably saving both money and calories.)

I think I shall be sleeping late tomorrow, then packing, and lazing in front of CSI :)

You will definitely start noticing that your core strength improves which benfits everything else.

I've been doing it for nearly 3 years and I'm now (apparently) in the advanced classs. Hardcore! It's not so much dancing, more gymnastic and acrobatic now. I do feel though that I have reached my limit. Because I know how much some things hurt I'm less inclined to do them. Have you got many bruises yet? I was permanently bruised for the first year :rotfl:I don't think I can give you any tips except don't use body lotions and handcreams on pole days because you'll have no grip.

Keep at it - you'll really notice results. I have lovely toned arms now :) and I like it how people are so impressed when they see me hanging upside down at 15 feet with no hands ;)
It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :j

So what more would you do if you were able?

Thanks... the core strength will be good as half the family have a dodgy back and I want to keep mine protected but get rapidly v bored with Pilates. I haven't got bruises yet as haven't had all that much opportunity but am sure it will happen! Toned arms would be good as my upper half isn't usually as toned as the lower, but it would all be good. Had forgotten how good it feels to tone up as it hasn't properly happened since... oh well that would be before I started studying as well as working lol.

I am very impressed that you can hang upside down at 15 feet - I wanna do that too :)

:rotfl: :rotfl: Poles, you've distracted Z so much that he forgot an apostrophe AND confused 'covet' with 'covert'

    'Tis surely a record

Rosa, how did you find out about these classes? I know you had a voucher but how did you take it further? Is it expensive? Do you have to get your own pole to practise? I could do with an exercise that tones but not necessarily bulks or reduces fat as I'm tiny already.

And of course the appropriate tense (or is it tonse? Or is it an accusative?) is "Those are"... :p

Hell no! I've had veritable forests of speeling erroors and bad grandma before.

The only thing I really check for, is spelling my own name.

I'm sure there's ladies out there who would be similarly unimpressed...

    Hi Kerri

I spotted the voucher on a local groupon deal and I really liked the tutor's website plus she was in town so thought it was worth a go (there were other groupon options but I would have had to drive and they just didn't seem as committed to teaching). Then I asked when her next set of beginner's classes would be and have joined them. I don't think it's any more expensive than other 'unusual' exercise classes, I'm only paying the same as I was for Pilates. I've always wanted to have a go but never found a class that really appealed to me before and this was ideal (I'll PM you the website and explain). So far tutor has just said to do strengthening exercises between classes and I am trying to stop myself looking at buying a pole until I'm sure I'll keep working at it, so have told myself absolute minimum of three months ie. two levels of classes. If you like climbing, I think you'd love it - it has all the things I liked about bouldering in that it's about keeping my brain working, all over stretches, balance, co-ordination, and a very simple definition of success (stay on/ fall on a$$) but doesn't require a trip to wall or loads of gear to do. Plus you get to do it to music and in booty shorts :D

Ooh well I've had a look and there's a class with a company 2 mins down the road from me but it's £150 for a 6 week course and I can't work out where I'd put a pole as my flat has high ceilings.... Will have another look when I'm nearer my dfd I think then I can justify the expense :-)
