  • Seems to me that you're right to be aware (rather than 'worried') about the money which this move will gobble up. I don't think what we're learning here is just about not spending...but also how to cope in a more practical way when we do. So yes, the move will eat into your funds...but it's a spend to save point really since the idea of moving closer to friends is already making you happier....and you have this amazing MSE skillset you've been building in advance of what is essentially a new start. Oooo *grins like a maniac* it's all soooo exciting!! :D

:T It's a bit of a new perspective isn't it? While we're being deep and meaningful, I think I'm also learning something about making sure I determine value-to-me for everything I deal with. I went in a couple of the local charity shops today and also the fab local gift shop, but ended up not buying a thing. There was some lovely jewellery... but as I don't really wear the stuff, it would end up being an expense that gathered dust and I'd rather spend the money on other things that make me much happier.

It is a new start too... hadn't realised quite how much of one but am delighted by it. Have finished most of the MSc, am hopefully moving on at work, don't need to live here now am not trekking to college and was beginning to get antsy with having been here a few years. And two friends only just confirmed they're staying in that area so it's all rather good timing.

  • Just realised that weekly dance class is liable to require some alterations to goddessing schedule (like doing some). Might actually have to shave my legs tomorrow :rotfl:

It's also motivated me to finally get the Pilates DVD out again. I don't think I can justify paying a tenner a week for Pilates classes, especially as I ended up missing half the last lot. Somehow laying on a cold dusty floor doing contortions just doesn't have the same appeal as flinging myself around to music.

New flat will also be much better set up for exercising than current space :T

Shed decluttered, mini greenhouse dismantled and packed (the cover was ripped so that's gone in the bin, but cheaper to buy that than replace the whole thing), boxes brought into house for packing. Haven't packed up the gardening stuff properly or potted up plants as decided it's lowest priority - current landlord won't mind if I leave stuff there and pop back after a week or so, and it would mean less clutter while I sort everything else and get a garden store. I can also finish packing up the spare room as I now have the boxes for stuff in there, and think I will shove the bed over so I can leave ready packed boxes in there. Will think what to pack next on Wed as I want a night off on Mon and have dance class on Tues. That should give me three nights to get going, plus Saturday, and the evenings in the week after. And I will have about 4 days overlap, probably full days as I'll take leave, so there will be time to do the actual putting in boxes at the same time as taking over by car.

I do need to do something about my weekend sleep habit though as I'm still staying up really late and it means I then get up late and miss daylight hours I could be in the garden or get to shops etc. It's probably just a habit as I used to be so completely wiped and fed up by Friday that I'd spend the evening vegging just to wind down and the day catching up on sleep I'd missed. I don't need to do that any more. Will try and go to bed earlier - also want to start using my meditation mp3s again.

Amazingly, have been doing a few sit-ups and push-ups a day as recommended by dance tutor and am thinking I can continue this. Going to try and also do the 15 mins Pilates DVD every day and perhaps track to see if it makes a difference.

Must go to bed at a decent time tonight too, some sadistic person arranged our weekly business meeting for a Monday morning and I missed it last week so should turn up this time.

The covers do tend to go quite often for those - the UV murders them. Check inside the hollow piping for rust. A little spray of oil goes a long way to making them last.

If it is only a habit, then it is a habit worth getting rid off. I seem to miss most weekends as well. I seem to spend a lot of time in bed, and not in a good way.

So contortions on the floor a go-go? ;)

I hate those to. At least people in work know if it's too early, I won't be there, and if they do it too often then we'll have one at 5pm on a friday...

Thanks Z - will look at the mini-greenhouse when I put it back together and see what I can do to keep it going.

Today has been sad as my gran died in the early hours of this morning. It wasn't exactly unexpected but there's never a 'ready' time either. I think she was kind of prepared in herself so that is a comfort - she got very frustrated with being physically very limited and recently was in pretty much constant pain.

I took the morning off work so I could think about things and went in this afternoon as there's no point moping around the house on my own. It is things like this that make me feel a bit out on a limb - one of my local friends is abroad and the other working away at the moment. Besides which I expected to be spending a lot of this evening on the phone - that hasn't happened so have just been reading and packing as I couldn't really settle to anything. I know some people would spend the day in floods but for one thing I've never managed to be the kind of person who bawls for a half hour and gets it out of their system, and for another it will probably take a while to sink in. I shall miss her most at all the odd little moments that I think of her, all the little reminders that would make no sense to anybody else. I am somehow upset that my new address will never get a card in her handwriting - it will be the only place I've lived that hasn't, despite all my changes of address as a student.

It does also mean that I will have to make a trip for the funeral, but am thinking I will do it by train rather than car as it will be less stressful for me and probably won't be any harder on the credit card. Must also text best buddy up north so I can see her and have a breather from the family complications.

I can't go for more than overnight since I need to move by the end of the month. Have sorted out the money transfers ready and will go into the agent's office to sign the contract tomorrow - that way it's all done before I need to go away. Current landlord has already said he won't mind if I need an extra few days to shift all my stuff and I'm sure he'll be understanding about the circumstances so fingers crossed it will work out.

On a slightly brighter DF type note I have a payout from Quidco en route and even though my claim for the battery incident doesn't seem to have reached the insurance company within their timeframe (bizarrely I don't seem to have sent it recorded which is most unlike me) they seem happy to deal with it anyhow and I've sent them a scanned version (just as well I kept a copy, that's much more like me). So hopefully that's £200 still coming back - phew. I have a dress that needs returning which will be £50 back, but we don't have a branch nearby. I was thinking of waiting til I go into the city for a meeting next week but am not sure that will happen now, so guess I'll wait til I know and if not I'll have a trip out to the nearest one in the evening.

Still feeling a bit distracted but have done as much packing as I can face so guess I will go to bed with a book.
