what're your reasons for not being on the organ donor registry?

Nothing 'got my goat' at all.
I just wondered how you came to this conclusion...
and I'd still love to know, if my body isn't my body, whose body is it?
As for the last sentence of yours, where on earth did that come from????!!!
You started it with your abrupt manner.
Everyone has their own thoughts/feelings. Mine is that my body is just a machine( a vessel if you want to call it that) , but the real me is my soul, my ' heart'. The most important thing is that the actions and thoughts/feelings towards others is what your life is about. It isn't the body that you have that makes you who you are. My feelings, cannot be pooh poohed as everyone has their own thoughts on the subject and they cannot be slated for it.
You made it sound like a consumer product, by the ' MY.MY,MINE' terms. Thats hy it got the response it did. This is a sensitive subject, I was just trying to put a view across that if more people started to think more about others, then the world would be a better place.
Your husband is totally against donation. Would he accept a donated organ if he needed one?0 -
When I got my first driving licence, there was a space on it to opt-in. I did. My mother said she wouldn't be happy about it so if I had been in an accident the next week she may well have not given consent.
Now; I'm quite sure that my wife would give consent and expects me to do the same for her.
Doesn't mean we look down on those who think otherwise.I need to think of something new here...0 -
I do not carry an organ donor card and nor do my family. I don't want to donate my organs and I will not give permission for my families organs to be donated - unless they expressly tell me they want them donated. I have no idea if I would accept a donated organ should I ever need one. I would have to think long and hard about it.0

Just thought it might be worth correcting a few misconceptions here: If you are currently on the OPT-IN register, your family can refuse their consent, reagardless of your wishes, and your organs will not be used.
If the OPT-OUT register is implemented, the family will not be asked for consent. The phrase 'the family will not have to make the decision' should be a hint. Unless a person objects, the organs can be taken if tissue matches are found. While I am on the register as it stands, I find this suggestion sets a dangerous precendent about the ownership of the person by the state.
I would suggest a middle ground. At the age of 18, everyone should be asked to Opt-in, or register their wish otherwise. Once the decision is made, by the person, that decision stands unless changed by the person. Families should not be allowed to override the decision of the deceased. So, you are obliged to make a decision, and the state is obliged to respect your choice. No one else gets a say.
The argument that those who refuse to donate (not for medical reasons) should be prohibited from recieving an organ is a difficult one. It has also been suggested that the death penalty could be reintroduced on the same basis - you sign at the age of 18 to state if you agree with the death penalty. If you are murdered, your killer can only be imprisoned if you do not. If you do agree with it, then you cannot appeal against it if you are convicted later of a capital offence. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

My reasons for not carrying a card is because of my beliefs. That when I die, my WHOLE body should remain intact in order for me to transcend complete.
Albeit I respect my Mrs decision to carry a card, as she respects my decision not to. I liken it to the days when a body would be chopped up and scattered around the Country, in order to ensure the body is not permitted to be laid to rest.
Should a part of my body be allowed to live on after my passing, would put my soul into some sort of limbo, up until all physical parts of me have been allowed to degenerate back into the Earth with me as a whole.
On the same token, my OH knows my feelings about having another's organs placed inside me so that I may live, I would not want this for the same reasons.
If nature dictates that my time is up, then its time for me to move on without the need of prolonging my life via another persons organs.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

If you do not want to donate you are simply selfish and greedy imo.
Anyone that isn't willing (obviously there is a difference between willing to and able to) to give shouldn't be allowed to recieve.
I am an organ donor and have it attached to back of my drivers licence. I'd rather someone benefit from my death than my body go to waste, and possibily cause the death of someone waiting for a vital organ. On the same token, my OH knows my feelings about having another's organs placed inside me so that I may live, I would not want this for the same reasons.
And for that I respect your decision and do not have a problem with it.0
