I think it should be an opt-out system. Anyone opted out should not have a donor organ made available if they need it.

I've never thought of it this way, but I completely agree. If you disagree with taking organs from your body to transplant to someone that needs it, then for sure you disagree to implanting someone else's organs in your own body.

I've carried a card for many years with all my family knowing and agreeing.

Any objection on religious grounds just makes me thankful that I'm an atheist (and think all religion is a crock of s#!t)

My brother wasn't on the register but when the doctors said he wasn't going to recover we (my mum, my sister and I)were all in agreement that he would have wanter to help others. His kidney has saved someones life and hus heart valves will go to help either a child or a woman of childbearing age. It is a huge comfort to know that in some small way, Michael lives on in others.

It's interesting reading the points of view on this subject but I wish people wouldn't call others silly.

I'm not too sure about donating organs after death. I have made over 50 donations of blood, so I've helped many people while I'm alive...........before anyone calls me silly for not carry a donor card.;)

At the moment, recipients of organs know that (in most cases) a person has died and they gave their consent for their organs to be donated.

At the moment, recipients of organs know that the donor wanted them to have their organ(s) which is a wonderful gift.

I wonder how recipients of organs would feel if a person died and just because they weren't carrying an opt out card...........their organs were harvested.

they wouldn't feel anything because it wouldn't happen. it wouldn't be a case of 'well, he never got round to opting out, quick, pass me that scalpel'. doctors would still have to ask permission from the deceased's next of kin to take the organs and they would have the final say

I think that medical advances over the years have made this subject more contentious. Organ transplants are so much more successful than they used to be, so more people are wondering why so many people are still dying if there is a possible cure.

It's a great gift to be able to donate your organs to let other people live a longer and healthier life.

It's also a great tragedy that so many people are still dying because of a lack of organs donated.

Ive never really looked into it but i think im on it but dont have a donor card, if i am and my next of kin decided they didnt want my oragns donated what would happen?

then they'd leave your body alone and somewhere there'd be someone who'd go another few days/weeks without the organ/tissue they desperately need

Not an easy subject, but why not sit down and talk about it with your family to let them know what you would like?

    What got your Goat? !

Where did I say people should think bad about not donating?

Your body is just a piece of machinery that you use whilst alive, as far as I see it. What matters to me is how a person lives their life and how they conduct themselves.

I hope to God that you don't ever need a transplant, more so if it came out of my body. I would Haunt you !

Nothing 'got my goat' at all.

I just wondered how you came to this conclusion...
We are only lent this body, it's not yours

and I'd still love to know, if my body isn't my body, whose body is it?

As for the last sentence of yours, where on earth did that come from????!!!

I'm not on the donor list and my family are well aware that I do not want my organs donated.

And no it isn't for religious reasons and some of the attitudes expressed her by the "pro" brigade confirm my decision.
