what're your reasons for not being on the organ donor registry?

I didn't know that! I know it sounds ridiculous but it really bothers me about heart and eyes! I don't think anything else would be worth having though...0

I joined the register years ago, every time I have renewed myself on it I have stipulated that they are not to take my eyes.
I want to see my way into heaven, the bright light, the pearly gates.
Silly/childish maybe - its just the way I feel.
They can have what's left.0 -
You can donate practically anything and everything. Even small pieces of skin can be used to "grow" new skin for burns victims, if you donate your eyes, they just remove the corneas, which can be used to help blind people regain their sight. Veins, valves, and bones can be used and you can even donate your pancreas to help an insulin dependent diabetic patient to be free of the ordeal of multiple daily injections.
I think that organ and tissue transplantation is one of the miracles of modern science. We are privileged to live in a world where such wonders are possible, it's just a shame that our society sees breast implants, lip injections and gastric bands as normal, even desirable, and yet organ donation is seen by some, as something horrific and unnatural."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
as suited-aces points out, it was aimed toward people who refuse to be on the list as opposed to those who can't be on the list.
how can anyone have any bad feelings towards people who can't be a donor?

I don't donate my corneas. When I inevitably come back as a zombie it'll be difficult to hunt for brains if I can't see where I'm going."If you don't feel the bumps in the road, you're not really going anywhere "

if everyone used this reason, i wouldn't have had to start the thread.

i beg to differ. if it can make people think again about organ donation and if just one person signs up (bear in mind this has had over 170 replies and over 4,000 views), then i believe it's worked.
it was never and is not about 'imposing my opinion' on anyone. it was a thread started out of curiosity to see why some people refuse to donate organs that they will have no use for once they've shuffled off this mortal coil. organs that can help save a life and allow a family to have a few more years with their loved one. i guess part of this was to get people to think about why they wouldn't and perhaps see if they would think again about not being on the register.
i understand that not everyone has taken well to this thread, but honestly, i couldn't care less. as i said at the beginning of this post, if just one person has followed the link in my original post, i'm happy. i think from the responses garnered, i've seen some of the responses i had expected to see, which is sad really, but to be expected.helpful tips

If you were going blind, could not see the faces of your children or grandchildren or share the wonder of a sunrise or maybe just not see into the face of the current NHS carer to turn up with your meal... Would you wish for a cornea donor?0
